1A prophecy against Tyre:
Wail, you ships of Tarshish!
For Tyre is destroyed
and left without house or harbour.
From the land of Cyprus
word has come to them.
2Be silent, you people of the island
and you merchants of Sidon,
whom the seafarers have enriched.
3On the great waters
came the grain of the Shihor;
the harvest of the Nile23:2,3 Masoretic Text; Dead Sea Scrolls Sidon, / who cross over the sea; / your envoys 3 are on the great waters. / The grain of the Shihor, / the harvest of the Nile, was the revenue of Tyre,
and she became the market-place of the nations.
4Be ashamed, Sidon, and you fortress of the sea,
for the sea has spoken:
‘I have neither been in labour nor given birth;
I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters.’
5When word comes to Egypt,
they will be in anguish at the report from Tyre.
6Cross over to Tarshish;
wail, you people of the island.
7Is this your city of revelry,
the old, old city,
whose feet have taken her
to settle in far-off lands?
8Who planned this against Tyre,
the bestower of crowns,
whose merchants are princes,
whose traders are renowned in the earth?
9The Lord Almighty planned it,
to bring down her pride in all her splendour
and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.

Daughter Tarshish,
for you no longer have a harbour.
11The Lord has stretched out his hand over the sea
and made its kingdoms tremble.
He has given an order concerning Phoenicia
that her fortresses be destroyed.
12He said, ‘No more of your revelling,
Virgin Daughter Sidon, now crushed!
‘Up, cross over to Cyprus;
even there you will find no rest.’
13Look at the land of the Babylonians,23:13 Or Chaldeans
this people that is now of no account!
The Assyrians have made it
a place for desert creatures;
they raised up their siege towers,
they stripped its fortresses bare
and turned it into a ruin.
14Wail, you ships of Tarshish;
your fortress is destroyed!
15At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king’s life. But at the end of these seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute:
16‘Take up a harp, walk through the city,
you forgotten prostitute;
play the harp well, sing many a song,
so that you will be remembered.’
17At the end of seventy years, the Lord will deal with Tyre. She will return to her lucrative prostitution and will ply her trade with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. 18Yet her profit and her earnings will be set apart for the Lord; they will not be stored up or hoarded. Her profits will go to those who live before the Lord, for abundant food and fine clothes.

7이것이 고대에 건설된 화려한 너희 도시냐? 이것이 먼 나라까지 가서 식민지를 개척한 도시란 말이냐?
8많은 식민지를 다스리며 세계 무역의 중심지인 두로에 누가 이런 재앙을 내렸는가?
9전능하신 여호와께서 그렇게 하셨으니 그들의 교만을 꺾고 세상의 존귀한 자들을 낮추기 위해서였다.
10다시스의 배들아, 항해를 계속하라. 너희가 정박할 항구가 없어졌다.
11여호와께서 바다 위에 손을 펴셔서 세상 나라들을 흔드시며 23:11 히 ‘가나안’페니키아의 요새를 파괴하라는 명령을 내리시고
12이렇게 말씀하셨다. “가련한 시돈아, 너의 즐거운 시절은 끝났다. 너의 주민들이 키프러스로 도망갈지라도 거기서 안전하지 못할 것이다.”
13들짐승으로 두로를 짓밟게 한 것은 앗시리아 사람이 아니라 바빌로니아 사람이었다. 그들이 두로를 포위하고 그 궁전을 헐어 폐허가 되게 하였다.
14다시스의 배들아, 통곡하라. 너희와 무역하던 도시가 파괴되었다.
15두로가 한 임금의 수명처럼 70년 동안 잊혀졌다가 그 기간이 지나면 다음과 같은 기생의 노래처럼 될 것이다.
16“잊혀진 기생아, 수금을 가지고
성 안을 돌아다녀라.
훌륭하게 연주하고
많은 노래를 불러
사람들이 다시 너를
기억하게 하라.”
17그 70년이 지나면 여호와께서 두로를 다시 일으켜 이전처럼 무역을 하게 하실 것이나 두로는 온 세계와 음란을 행할 것이다.
18그러나 두로가 무역하여 번 돈은 쌓이지 않고 여호와께 바쳐질 것이며 여호와를 섬기는 자들이 식량과 의복을 사는 데 그 돈을 사용할 날이 있을 것이다.
