The mountain of the Lord
1This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
2In the last days
the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established
as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.
3Many peoples will come and say,
‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.’
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into ploughshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.
5Come, descendants of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the Lord.
The day of the Lord
6You, Lord, have abandoned your people,
the descendants of Jacob.
They are full of superstitions from the East;
they practise divination like the Philistines
and embrace pagan customs.
7Their land is full of silver and gold;
there is no end to their treasures.
Their land is full of horses;
there is no end to the chariots.
8Their land is full of idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands,
to what their fingers have made.
9So people will be brought low
and everyone humbled –
do not forgive them.2:9 Or not raise them up
10Go into the rocks, hide in the ground
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendour of his majesty!
11The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled
and human pride brought low;
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
12The Lord Almighty has a day in store
for all the proud and lofty,
for all that is exalted
(and they will be humbled),
13for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty,
and all the oaks of Bashan,
14for all the towering mountains
and all the high hills,
15for every lofty tower
and every fortified wall,
16for every trading ship2:16 Hebrew every ship of Tarshish
and every stately vessel.
17The arrogance of man will be brought low
and human pride humbled;
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,
18and the idols will totally disappear.
19People will flee to caves in the rocks
and to holes in the ground
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendour of his majesty,
when he rises to shake the earth.
20In that day people will throw away
to the moles and bats
their idols of silver and idols of gold,
which they made to worship.
21They will flee to caverns in the rocks
and to the overhanging crags
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendour of his majesty,
when he rises to shake the earth.
22Stop trusting in mere humans,
who have but a breath in their nostrils.
Why hold them in esteem?
El monte del Señor
2:1-4 – Mi 4:1-3
1Palabra que Isaías, hijo de Amoz, recibió en visión acerca de Judá y Jerusalén:
2En los últimos días,
el monte del Templo del Señor será establecido
como el más alto de los montes;
se alzará por encima de las colinas
y hacia él correrán todas las naciones.
3Muchos pueblos vendrán y dirán:
«¡Vengan, subamos al monte del Señor,
al Templo del Dios de Jacob!
Dios mismo nos instruirá en sus caminos
y así andaremos por sus sendas».
Porque de Sión saldrá la Ley,
de Jerusalén, la palabra del Señor.
4Dios mismo juzgará entre las naciones
y administrará justicia a muchos pueblos.
Convertirán sus espadas en arados
y en hoces sus lanzas.
Ya no levantará su espada nación contra nación
y nunca más se adiestrarán para la guerra.
5¡Ven, pueblo de Jacob,
y caminemos a la luz del Señor!
El día del Señor
6Has abandonado a tu pueblo,
a los descendientes de Jacob,
porque están llenos de costumbres de Oriente,
de adivinos como los filisteos
y hacen tratos con extranjeros.
7Su tierra está llena de plata y oro,
y sus tesoros son incalculables.
En su tierra abundan los caballos
y sus carros de guerra son incontables.
8Su país está lleno de ídolos;
el pueblo adora la obra de sus manos,
lo que han hecho con sus propios dedos.
9A la humanidad se le humilla;
al ser humano se le degrada.
¡Imposible que los perdones!
10¡Métete en la roca
y escóndete en el polvo
ante la temible presencia del Señor
y el esplendor de su majestad!
11Los ojos del altivo serán humillados
y la arrogancia humana será doblegada.
En aquel día solo el Señor será exaltado.
12El día del Señor de los Ejércitos vendrá
contra todos los orgullosos y arrogantes,
contra todos los altaneros,
para humillarlos;
13contra todos los cedros del Líbano, arrogantes y erguidos,
contra todas las encinas de Basán,
14contra todas las montañas altivas,
contra todas las colinas erguidas,
15contra todas las torres altas,
contra todo muro fortificado,
16contra todas las naves de Tarsis,
contra todos los barcos lujosos.
17La altivez de la humanidad será abatida
y la arrogancia humana será humillada.
En aquel día solo el Señor será exaltado
18y los ídolos desaparecerán por completo.
19La gente se meterá en las cuevas de las rocas
y en las grietas del suelo,
ante la temible presencia del Señor
y el esplendor de su majestad,
cuando él se levante para hacer temblar la tierra.
20En aquel día la gente
arrojará a los topos y murciélagos
los ídolos de plata y oro
que había fabricado para adorarlos.
21Se meterá en las grutas de las rocas
y en las hendiduras de los peñascos,
ante la temible presencia del Señor
y el esplendor de su majestad,
cuando él se levante para hacer temblar la tierra.
22¡Dejen de confiar en simples humanos,
que es muy poco lo que valen!
¡Sus vidas son un soplo nada más!
