Invest in many ventures
1Ship your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.
2Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
3If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain on the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
4Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
5As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed11:5 Or know how life (or the spirit) / enters the body being formed in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.
6Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let your hands not be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well.
Remember your Creator while young
7Light is sweet,
and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.
8However many years anyone may live,
let them enjoy them all.
But let them remember the days of darkness,
for there will be many.
Everything to come is meaningless.
9You who are young, be happy while you are young,
and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart
and whatever your eyes see,
but know that for all these things
God will bring you into judgment.
10So then, banish anxiety from your heart
and cast off the troubles of your body,
for youth and vigour are meaningless.
Sábios Conselhos
1Atire o seu pão sobre as águas11.1 Ou Dê com generosidade o seu pão,
e depois de muitos dias você tornará a encontrá-lo.
2Reparta o que você tem com sete, até mesmo com oito,
pois você não sabe que desgraça poderá cair sobre a terra.
3Quando as nuvens estão cheias de água,
derramam chuva sobre a terra.
Quer uma árvore caia para o sul quer para o norte,
onde cair ficará.
4Quem fica observando o vento não plantará,
e quem fica olhando para as nuvens não colherá.
5Assim como você não conhece o caminho do vento,
nem como o corpo é formado11.5 Ou não sabe como a vida (ou o espírito) entra no corpo que está se formando no ventre de uma mulher,
também não pode compreender as obras de Deus,
o Criador de todas as coisas.
6Plante de manhã a sua semente,
e mesmo ao entardecer
não deixe as suas mãos ficarem à toa,
pois você não sabe o que acontecerá,
se esta ou aquela produzirá,
ou se as duas serão igualmente boas.
Conselho para os Jovens
7A luz é agradável,
é bom ver o sol.
8Por mais que um homem viva,
deve desfrutar sua vida toda.
Lembre-se, porém, dos dias de trevas,
pois serão muitos.
Tudo o que está para vir não faz sentido.
9Alegre-se, jovem, na sua mocidade!
Seja feliz o seu coração nos dias da sua juventude!
Siga por onde seu coração mandar,
até onde a sua vista alcançar;
mas saiba que por todas essas coisas
Deus o trará a julgamento.
10Afaste do coração a ansiedade
e acabe com o sofrimento do seu corpo,
pois a juventude e o vigor são passageiros.
