The death of Moses
1Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, opposite Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land – from Gilead to Dan, 2all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Mediterranean Sea, 3the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4Then the Lord said to him, ‘This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, “I will give it to your descendants.” I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.’
5And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab, as the Lord had said. 6He buried him34:6 Or He was buried in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no-one knows where his grave is. 7Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. 8The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over.
9Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit34:9 Or Spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.
10Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt – to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12For no-one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
모세의 죽음
1그 후 모세가 모압 평야에서 느보산으로 올라가 여리고 맞은편에 있 는 비스가산 꼭대기에 이르자 여호와께서는 길르앗에서 단까지의 모든 땅을 그에게 보여 주시고
2또 납달리와 에브라임과 므낫세의 모든 땅과 지중해까지 뻗어 있는 유다의 모든 땅과
3남쪽 네겝 지방과 종려나무 성인 여리고에서부터 소알까지의 평야를 그에게 보여 주셨다.
4그런 다음에 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “이것은 내가 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 맹세하여 그들의 후손들에게 주겠다고 약속한 땅이다. 내가 그 땅을 너에게 보여 주었지만 너는 그리로 들어가지 못할 것이다.”
5그래서 여호와의 종 모세는 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 모압 땅에서 죽었다.
6여호와께서 모압 땅의 벧 – 브올 맞은편 골짜기에 그를 장사하였으나 오늘날까지도 그의 무덤을 정확하게 아는 자가 없다.
7모세가 죽을 때 그의 나이 120세였으나 그는 눈도 흐리지 않았고 기력이 쇠하지도 않았다.
8이스라엘 백성은 모압 평야에서 30일 동안 그의 죽음을 애도하였다.
9모세가 눈의 아들 여호수아에게 안수하였으므로 그에게 지혜의 영이 충만하였다. 그래서 이스라엘 백성은 여호수아에게 순종하였고 여호와께서 모세를 통해 명령하신 것을 실행하였다.
10그 후로 이스라엘에는 모세와 같은 예언자가 없었다. 그는 여호와께서 대면하여 말씀하신 자였으며
11여호와의 보내심을 받아 이집트에서 바로와 그의 모든 신하들과 그의 온 땅에 놀라운 기적과 큰 능력을 행한 사람이었다.
12이와 같이 이스라엘 백성이 보는 가운데서 모세가 행한 것처럼 놀라운 일을 보여 준 사람은 지금까지 아무도 없었다.
