Instructions on worship
1I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, 4who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. 7And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle – I am telling the truth, I am not lying – and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.
8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. 9I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
11A woman2:11 Or wife; also in verse 12 should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;2:12 Or over her husband she must be quiet. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women2:15 Greek she will be saved through childbearing – if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
要为他人祷告
1我劝你首先要为所有的人恳求、祷告、代求，为他们感谢上帝。 2也要为所有的君王和掌权者祷告，使我们可以怀着虔诚、端正的心过和平安宁的生活。 3这样做很美好，是蒙我们的救主上帝悦纳的。 4因为祂愿全人类都得救，明白真理。 5上帝只有一位，在上帝和人类之间只有一位中保，就是降世为人的基督耶稣。 6祂舍命作全人类的赎价，这在所定的时候已显明出来。 7为此，我被指派做传道人和使徒，教导外族人认识信仰和真理。我说的是实话，并非谎言。
信徒的操守
8我愿男人举起圣洁的手随处祷告，不发怒，不争辩2:8 “争辩”或译“疑惑”。。 9我愿女人衣着朴素端庄，不靠发型、珠宝金饰或名贵衣服来妆饰自己， 10要有良好的行为，这样才配称为敬畏上帝的妇女。 11妇女应当安安静静地学习，完全顺服。
12我不准女人教导或管辖男人，她们应当保持安静。 13因为先造的是亚当，后造的是夏娃， 14受骗犯罪的不是亚当，是夏娃。 15不过，女人如果持守信心和爱心，圣洁自律，就必在生育的事上得救。
