Thanksgiving for the Thessalonians’ faith
2We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4For we know, brothers and sisters1:4 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 2:1, 9, 14, 17; 3:7; 4:1, 10, 13; 5:1, 4, 12, 14, 25, 27. loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia – your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

2Vi tackar alltid Gud för er alla och ber ständigt för er, 3för vi tänker på allt ni gör i tron, hur ni arbetar i kärlek och håller fast vid hoppet till vår Herre Jesus Kristus inför vår Gud och Fader.
4Vi vet, syskon1:4 På grekiska: bröder. Samma tolkning används genom hela brevet., Guds älskade, att han har utvalt er. 5Det evangelium vi förkunnar kom inte till er bara med ord, utan med kraft och den heliga Anden och fullt övertygande. Ni vet ju vad vi gjorde bland er och för er. 6Ni följde vårt exempel, och därmed också Herrens exempel, genom att ni var villiga att lida, då ni nu tagit emot ordet med den glädje som den heliga Anden ger. 7På det sättet blev ni själva ett föredöme för alla de troende i Makedonien och Achaia1:7 Makedonien och Achaia var två romerska provinser i nuvarande Grekland., 8för ni har låtit Herrens ord höras, inte bara i Makedonien och Achaia, utan er tro har blivit känd överallt. Vi behöver inte säga någonting, 9för alla berättar själva om hur ni tog emot oss och vände er bort från avgudar för att tjäna den levande och sanna Guden 10och vänta på hans Son från himlen – Jesus, som Gud uppväckte från de döda och som räddar oss från den kommande vreden.
