Saved in Order to Do Good
1Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.
3At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
9But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. 10Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. 11You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.
Final Remarks
12As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, because I have decided to winter there. 13Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way and see that they have everything they need. 14Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

Gata pentru orice faptă bună
1Amintește‑le să fie supuși conducerilor1 Sau: conducătorilor. și autorităților, să fie ascultători, gata pentru orice faptă bună, 2să nu vorbească de rău pe nimeni, să nu fie certăreți, să fie îngăduitori, să arate o blândețe deplină față de toți oamenii.
3Căci și noi eram odată nesăbuiți, neascultători, rătăciți, înrobiți de felurite pofte și plăceri, trăind în răutate și invidie, fiind urâți de alții și urându‑ne unii pe alții. 4Dar când s‑a arătat bunătatea și dragostea de oameni a lui Dumnezeu, Mântuitorul nostru, 5El ne‑a mântuit, însă nu datorită faptelor, pe care le‑am făcut noi în dreptate, ci potrivit cu mila Lui, prin spălarea nașterii din nou și prin înnoirea înfăptuită de Duhul Sfânt, 6pe Care L‑a turnat peste noi din belșug, prin Isus Cristos, Mântuitorul nostru, 7pentru ca, fiind îndreptățiți prin harul Lui, să putem deveni moștenitori, având speranța vieții veșnice. 8Acest cuvânt este vrednic de încredere și doresc să insiști asupra acestor lucruri, astfel încât cei ce au crezut în Dumnezeu să urmărească să fie fruntași în fapte bune. Aceste lucruri sunt bune și de folos pentru oameni.
9Ferește‑te de controverse nebunești, de genealogii, de certuri și de conflicte cu privire la Lege, pentru că sunt inutile și fără rost! 10După primul și al doilea avertisment să nu mai ai nimic de‑a face cu cel ce provoacă dezbinări, 11deoarece știi că un astfel de om este stricat și păcătuiește, fiind de la sine condamnat.
Instrucțiuni finale
12Când îl voi trimite la tine pe Artemas sau pe Tyhikos, grăbește‑te să vii la mine în Nicopole, căci am hotărât să rămân acolo peste iarnă. 13Îngrijește‑te de legiuitorul13 Posibil un expert în Legea iudaică, dar, mai probabil, un expert în legea civilă. Zenas și de Apollos în călătoria lor, ca să nu le lipsească nimic. 14De asemenea, ai noștri să învețe să fie fruntași în fapte bune, răspunzând nevoilor urgente, ca astfel să nu fie neroditori.
15Toți cei ce sunt împreună cu mine te salută. Salută‑i pe cei ce ne iubesc în credință! Harul să fie cu voi toți!
