The Seals
1I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
3When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.
5When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds6:6 Or about 1 kilogram of wheat for a day’s wages,6:6 Greek a denarius and six pounds6:6 Or about 3 kilograms of barley for a day’s wages,6:6 Greek a denarius and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
7When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
9When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,6:11 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 12:10; 19:10. were killed just as they had been.
12I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
15Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us6:16 See Hosea 10:8. from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17For the great day of their6:17 Some manuscripts his wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”
Jaganjac razlama prvih šest pečata
1Gledao sam kako Jaganjac otvara prvi od sedam pečata na svitku. Začujem zatim prvo od četiriju bića kako viče glasom poput grmljavine: “Dođi!” 2Pogledam i vidim bijelog konja. Konjaniku u ruci luk, a na glavi pobjednički vijenac. Izjahao je izvojevati pobjedu.
3Kad Jaganjac otvori drugi pečat, začujem drugo biće kako kaže: “Dođi!” 4Dođe i drugi konj, riđan. Njegov je konjanik dobio velik mač i vlast da uzme mir sa zemlje, da posvuda bude rata i pokolja.
5Kad Jaganjac razlomi treći pečat, začujem treće biće kako kaže: “Dođi!” Pogledam i vidim konja vranca, a konjaniku u ruci vaga. 6Začujem neki glas između četiriju bića kako govori: “Jedan bijeli kruh ili tri ječmena kruha za dnevnicu.6:6 U grčkome: Mjera pšenice za denar. Tri mjere ječma za denar. A maslinovu ulju i vinu ne nanosi štetu!”
7Kad Jaganjac razlomi četvrti pečat, začujem četvrto biće kako veli: “Dođi!” 8Pogledam i vidim konja zelenka. Konjanik mu se zvao Smrt, a za njim je išao još jedan: Pakao. Dobili su vlast nad četvrtinom zemlje da ubijaju mačem, glađu, bolešću i zemaljskim zvijerima.
9Kad Jaganjac razlomi peti pečat, ugledam pod žrtvenikom duše ljudi zaklanih zbog Božje riječi i zbog svjedočanstva. 10Glasno viču Gospodinu: “Gospodaru sveti i istiniti, kad ćeš već jednom osuditi ljude ovoga svijeta za to što su nam učinili?” 11Zatim je svatko od njih dobio bijelu haljinu i rečeno im je da se strpe još malo dok se ne ispuni broj Isusovih slugu, njihove braće, koji imaju biti ubijeni kao i oni.
12Gledao sam kako Jaganjac razlama šesti pečat. Nastane velik potres. Sunce pocrni poput crne kostrijeti, a mjesec postane krvavocrven. 13Zvijezde počnu padati s neba na zemlju poput zelenih smokvica sa smokve kad ju zatrese jak vjetar. 14Nebo se smota kao svitak i iščezne. Sve planine i otoci pokrenu se s mjesta. 15Zemaljski kraljevi, vladari, vojskovođe, bogataši i moćnici—svi se skriju po špiljama i gorskim pećinama. 16Gorama i pećinama vikali su: “Padnite na nas i skrijte nas od lica Onoga koji sjedi na prijestolju i od Jaganjčeva gnjeva. 17Došao je velik dan njihova gnjeva! Tko će preživjeti?”
