Psalm 63In Hebrew texts 63:1-11 is numbered 63:2-12.
A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah.
1You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
2I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.
9Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;
they will go down to the depths of the earth.
10They will be given over to the sword
and become food for jackals.
11But the king will rejoice in God;
all who swear by God will glory in him,
while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
1Een psalm van David, die hij schreef in de woestijn van Juda.
2God, mijn God, ik zoek U overal,
mijn hart dorst naar U.
Ook mijn lichaam verlangt naar U
in dit dorre, droge land, waar geen water is.
3Ik heb U in uw heiligdom gezien,
ik zag uw kracht en majesteit.
4Uw goedheid en trouw overtreffen het leven zelf.
Ik zal met mijn mond uw naam grootmaken.
5Mijn leven lang wil ik U prijzen,
mijn handen naar U opheffen wanneer ik bid.
6Er is niets anders waarnaar ik verlang,
er komen prachtige lofliederen over mijn lippen,
7ook ʼs nachts als ik wakker lig en over U nadenk.
8Want U bent mij altijd te hulp gekomen.
Ik jubel het uit vanuit de beschermde plaats
waar U mij in leven houdt.
9Alles in mij richt zich op U.
Ik kan niet zonder U,
uw hand houdt mij vast.
10Maar de mensen die op mijn ondergang uit zijn,
zullen in de diepte van de aarde worden neergelaten.
11Zij zullen omkomen door het zwaard
en ten prooi vallen aan de wilde dieren.
12Maar de koning verheugt zich in God,
ieder die bij Hem zweert,
zal reden tot vreugde hebben
en zich op Hem kunnen beroemen,
want Hij brengt de leugenaar tot zwijgen.
