The Demand for a Sign
1The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
2He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.16:2,3 Some early manuscripts do not have When evening comes… of the times. 4A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. 6“Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
7They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”
8Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? 9Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 10Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 11How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah
13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,16:18 The Greek word for Peter means rock. and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades16:18 That is, the realm of the dead will not overcome it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be16:19 Or will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be16:19 Or will have been loosed in heaven.” 20Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
Jesus Predicts His Death
21From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save their life16:25 The Greek word means either life or soul; also in verse 26. will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
28“Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
求神迹
1有几个法利赛人和撒都该人来试探耶稣，要求祂显个天上的神迹给他们看。
2耶稣回答说：“傍晚的时候，你们看见天边出现红霞，就说明天一定是晴天； 3早晨的时候，你们看见天色又红又暗，就说今天必有风雨。你们懂得分辨天色，却不能分辨时代的征兆。 4一个邪恶淫乱的世代想看神迹，可是除了约拿的神迹以外，再没有神迹给他们看。”于是耶稣离开他们走了。
防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵
5门徒渡到湖对岸，忘记带饼了。 6耶稣对他们说：“你们要小心提防法利赛人和撒都该人的酵。”
7门徒彼此议论说：“这是因为我们没有带饼吧。”
8耶稣知道他们的心思，就说：“你们的信心太小了！为什么议论没有带饼的事呢？ 9你们还不明白吗？你们不记得那五个饼让五千人吃饱，又装满多少篮子吗？ 10也不记得那七个饼给四千人吃饱，又装满多少筐子吗？ 11我说你们要提防法利赛人和撒都该人的酵，指的不是饼，你们怎么不明白呢？”
12门徒这才恍然大悟，知道耶稣不是叫他们当心什么面酵，而是要提防法利赛人和撒都该人的教导。
彼得宣告耶稣是基督
13到了凯撒利亚·腓立比境内，耶稣问门徒：“人们说人子是谁？”
14门徒回答说：“有人说是施洗者约翰，有人说是以利亚，也有人说是耶利米，或其他某位先知。”
15耶稣问：“那么，你们说我是谁？”
16西门·彼得回答说：“你是基督，是永活上帝的儿子！”
17耶稣对他说：“约拿的儿子西门啊，你是有福的！因为这件事不是属血肉的人告诉你的，而是我天上的父启示你的。 18我告诉你，你是彼得16:18 “彼得”希腊文是“磐石”的意思。，我要在这磐石上建立我的教会，阴间的势力16:18 “势力”希腊文是“门”。不能胜过它。 19我要把天国的钥匙交给你。凡你在地上捆绑的，在天上也要捆绑；凡你在地上释放的，在天上也要释放。”
20当下，耶稣叮嘱门徒不可告诉别人祂就是基督。
耶稣预言自己的受害和复活
21从此以后，耶稣开始清楚地指示门徒，祂必须去耶路撒冷，受长老、祭司长和律法教师许多的迫害，并且被处死，但第三天必从死里复活。 22彼得把耶稣拉到一边，劝阻祂说：“主啊，千万不可！这件事绝不会发生在你身上！”
23耶稣立刻转过身来责备彼得说：“撒旦，退到我后面去！你是我的绊脚石，因为你不考虑上帝的意思，只考虑人的意思。”
24于是耶稣对门徒说：“如果有人要跟从我，就应当舍己，背起他的十字架跟从我。 25因为想救自己生命的，必失去生命；但为了我而失去生命的，必得到生命。 26人若赚得全世界，却丧失自己的生命，又有什么益处呢？人还能拿什么换回自己的生命呢？
27“因为人子要在祂父的荣耀中与众天使一起降临，那时，祂将按照各人的行为报应各人。 28我实在告诉你们，有些站在这里的人会在有生之年看见人子降临在祂的国度里。”
