The Helper of Israel
1“Be silent before me, you islands!
Let the nations renew their strength!
Let them come forward and speak;
let us meet together at the place of judgment.
2“Who has stirred up one from the east,
calling him in righteousness to his service41:2 Or east, / whom victory meets at every step?
He hands nations over to him
and subdues kings before him.
He turns them to dust with his sword,
to windblown chaff with his bow.
3He pursues them and moves on unscathed,
by a path his feet have not traveled before.
4Who has done this and carried it through,
calling forth the generations from the beginning?
I, the Lord—with the first of them
and with the last—I am he.”
5The islands have seen it and fear;
the ends of the earth tremble.
They approach and come forward;
6they help each other
and say to their companions, “Be strong!”
7The metalworker encourages the goldsmith,
and the one who smooths with the hammer
spurs on the one who strikes the anvil.
One says of the welding, “It is good.”
The other nails down the idol so it will not topple.
8“But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob, whom I have chosen,
you descendants of Abraham my friend,
9I took you from the ends of the earth,
from its farthest corners I called you.
I said, ‘You are my servant’;
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
10So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
11“All who rage against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.
12Though you search for your enemies,
you will not find them.
Those who wage war against you
will be as nothing at all.
13For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
14Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob,
little Israel, do not fear,
for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
15“See, I will make you into a threshing sledge,
new and sharp, with many teeth.
You will thresh the mountains and crush them,
and reduce the hills to chaff.
16You will winnow them, the wind will pick them up,
and a gale will blow them away.
But you will rejoice in the Lord
and glory in the Holy One of Israel.
17“The poor and needy search for water,
but there is none;
their tongues are parched with thirst.
But I the Lord will answer them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
18I will make rivers flow on barren heights,
and springs within the valleys.
I will turn the desert into pools of water,
and the parched ground into springs.
19I will put in the desert
the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive.
I will set junipers in the wasteland,
the fir and the cypress together,
20so that people may see and know,
may consider and understand,
that the hand of the Lord has done this,
that the Holy One of Israel has created it.
21“Present your case,” says the Lord.
“Set forth your arguments,” says Jacob’s King.
22“Tell us, you idols,
what is going to happen.
Tell us what the former things were,
so that we may consider them
and know their final outcome.
Or declare to us the things to come,
23tell us what the future holds,
so we may know that you are gods.
Do something, whether good or bad,
so that we will be dismayed and filled with fear.
24But you are less than nothing
and your works are utterly worthless;
whoever chooses you is detestable.
25“I have stirred up one from the north, and he comes—
one from the rising sun who calls on my name.
He treads on rulers as if they were mortar,
as if he were a potter treading the clay.
26Who told of this from the beginning, so we could know,
or beforehand, so we could say, ‘He was right’?
No one told of this,
no one foretold it,
no one heard any words from you.
27I was the first to tell Zion, ‘Look, here they are!’
I gave to Jerusalem a messenger of good news.
28I look but there is no one—
no one among the gods to give counsel,
no one to give answer when I ask them.
29See, they are all false!
Their deeds amount to nothing;
their images are but wind and confusion.
مددكار اسرائيل
1خداوند می‌فرمايد: «ای سرزمينهای دور دست، ساكت باشيد و به من گوش دهيد! قويترين دلايل خود را ارائه دهيد. نزديک بياييد و سخن بگوييد. دادگاه آمادهٔ شنيدن سخنان شماست.
2«چه كسی اين مرد41:2 منظور کوروش، پادشاه پارس است. نگاه کنيد به 45:1. را از مشرق آورده است كه هر جا قدم می‌گذارد آنجا را فتح می‌كند؟ چه كسی او را بر قومها و پادشاهان پيروز گردانيده است؟ شمشير او سپاهيان آنان را مثل غبار به زمين می‌اندازد و كمانش آنان را چون كاه پراكنده می‌كند. 3آنان را تا جاهای دور كه قبل از آن پايش به آنجا نرسيده بود تعقيب می‌كند و به سلامت پيش می‌رود. 4چه كسی اين كارها را كرده است؟ كيست كه سير تاريخ را تعيين نموده است؟ مگر نه من، كه خداوند ازلی و ابدی هستم؟
5«مردم سرزمينهای دور دست وقتی كارهای مرا ديدند از ترس لرزيدند. اينک آنها دور هم جمع شده‌اند 6و يكديگر را كمک و تشويق می‌كنند 7تا بتی بسازند. نجار و زرگر و آهنگر به ياری هم می‌شتابند، قسمتهای مختلف بت را با لحيم به هم وصل می‌كنند و با ميخ آن را به ديوار می‌كوبند تا نيفتد!
8«اما ای اسرائيل، ای بندهٔ من، تو قوم برگزيدهٔ من هستی. تو از خاندان دوست من ابراهيم هستی. 9من تو را از اقصای جهان فرا خواندم و گفتم كه تو بندهٔ من هستی. من تو را برگزيده‌ام و تركت نخواهم كرد. 10نترس، چون من با تو هستم؛ نگران نشو، زيرا من خدای تو هستم. من تو را تقويت خواهم كرد و ياری خواهم داد و تو را حمايت كرده، نجات خواهم بخشيد.
11«دشمنانت كه بر تو خشمگين هستند رسوا خواهند شد و كسانی كه با تو مخالفت می‌كنند هلاک خواهند گرديد. 12همهٔ آنان از بين خواهند رفت و اثری از آنان باقی نخواهد ماند. 13من كه خداوند، خدای تو هستم دست راستت را گرفته‌ام و می‌گويم نترس، زيرا تو را ياری خواهم داد.»
14خداوند می‌گويد: «ای اسرائيل، هر چند كوچک و ضعيف هستی، ولی نترس، زيرا تو را ياری خواهم داد. من، خدای مقدس اسرائيل، خداوند و نجات دهندهٔ تو هستم. 15تو مانند خرمنكوب تازه با دندانه‌های تيز خواهی بود و همهٔ دشمنانت را در هم كوبيده، خرد خواهی كرد و آنها را مانند كاه جمع كرده، كوهی از آنها خواهی ساخت. 16آنها را به هوا خواهی افشاند و باد همه را خواهد برد و گردباد آنها را پراكنده خواهد ساخت. آنگاه من كه خداوند، خدای مقدس اسرائيل هستم مايهٔ شادمانی تو خواهم بود و تو به من افتخار خواهی كرد.
17«وقتی فقرا و نيازمندان دنبال آب بگردند و پيدا نكنند و زبانشان از تشنگی خشک شود، من به دعای ايشان جواب خواهم داد. من كه خداوند، خدای اسرائيل هستم هرگز آنان را ترک نخواهم كرد. 18بر تپه‌های خشک برای ايشان رودخانه جاری می‌كنم و در ميان دره‌ها، به آنان چشمه‌های آب می‌دهم. بيابان را به بركهٔ آب و زمين خشک را به چشمه مبدل می‌سازم. 19كاری می‌كنم كه در زمين باير، درخت سرو آزاد و آس و زيتون و شمشاد و صنوبر و كاج برويد. 20هر کس اين را ببيند و در آن تفكر كند خواهد فهميد كه من خداوند، خدای مقدس اسرائيل اين كار را كرده‌ام.»
21خداوند كه پادشاه اسرائيل است چنين می‌گويد: «بگذاريد خدايان قومهای ديگر بيايند و قويترين دلايل خود را ارائه دهند! 22بگذاريد آنچه را در گذشته اتفاق افتاده برای ما شرح دهند. بگذاريد از آينده به ما خبر دهند و پيشگويی كنند تا بدانيم چه پيش خواهد آمد. 23بلی، اگر آنها واقعاً خدا هستند بگذاريد بگويند كه چه اتفاقاتی بعد از اين خواهد افتاد. بگذاريد معجزه‌ای بكنند كه از ديدنش حيران شويم. 24اما بدانيد آنها هيچ هستند و كاری از دستشان برنمی‌آيد، و هر كه آنها را انتخاب كند كار بيهوده‌ای انجام داده است.
25«اما من مردی41:25 منظور کورش، پادشاه پارس است. نگاه کنيد به 45:1. را از شرق برگزيده‌ام و او را از شمال به جنگ قومها خواهم فرستاد. او نام مرا خواهد خواند و من او را بر پادشاهان مسلط خواهم ساخت. مثل كوزه‌گری كه گل را لگدمال می‌كند، او نيز آنها را پايمال خواهد كرد. 26آيا كسی تا به حال اين را پيشگويی كرده است؟ آيا كسی به شما خبر داده كه چنين واقعه‌ای رخ خواهد داد تا بگوييم كه او درست پيشگويی می‌كند؟ 27من اولين كسی بودم كه به اورشليم مژده داده، گفتم: ای اورشليم، قوم تو به وطن باز خواهند گشت. 28هيچيک از بتها چيزی برای گفتن نداشتند. وقتی از آنها سؤال كردم جوابی نشنيدم. 29تمام اين خدايان اجسام بی‌جان هستند و هيچ كاری از دستشان برنمی‌آيد.»
