Hezekiah’s Illness
1In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3“Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: 5“Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. 6And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.
7“ ‘This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: 8I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’ ” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down.
9A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:
10I said, “In the prime of my life
must I go through the gates of death
and be robbed of the rest of my years?”
11I said, “I will not again see the Lord himself
in the land of the living;
no longer will I look on my fellow man,
or be with those who now dwell in this world.
12Like a shepherd’s tent my house
has been pulled down and taken from me.
Like a weaver I have rolled up my life,
and he has cut me off from the loom;
day and night you made an end of me.
13I waited patiently till dawn,
but like a lion he broke all my bones;
day and night you made an end of me.
14I cried like a swift or thrush,
I moaned like a mourning dove.
My eyes grew weak as I looked to the heavens.
I am being threatened; Lord, come to my aid!”
15But what can I say?
He has spoken to me, and he himself has done this.
I will walk humbly all my years
because of this anguish of my soul.
16Lord, by such things people live;
and my spirit finds life in them too.
You restored me to health
and let me live.
17Surely it was for my benefit
that I suffered such anguish.
In your love you kept me
from the pit of destruction;
you have put all my sins
behind your back.
18For the grave cannot praise you,
death cannot sing your praise;
those who go down to the pit
cannot hope for your faithfulness.
19The living, the living—they praise you,
as I am doing today;
parents tell their children
about your faithfulness.
20The Lord will save me,
and we will sing with stringed instruments
all the days of our lives
in the temple of the Lord.
21Isaiah had said, “Prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil, and he will recover.”
22Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the temple of the Lord?”

1ครั้งนั้นเฮเซคียาห์ประชวรหนักใกล้สิ้นพระชนม์ ผู้เผยพระวจนะอิสยาห์บุตรอาโมศมาเข้าเฝ้าพระองค์และทูลว่า “องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสดังนี้ว่า จงจัดการบ้านเมืองให้เรียบร้อยเพราะเจ้าจะไม่หายป่วย แต่เจ้ากำลังจะตาย”
2เฮเซคียาห์หันพระพักตร์เข้าหากำแพง และอธิษฐานทูลองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าว่า 3“ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าขอทรงระลึกว่าข้าพระองค์ได้ดำเนินชีวิตอยู่ในทางของพระองค์อย่างซื่อสัตย์ ยอมอุทิศตนอย่างสิ้นสุดใจ และทำสิ่งที่ดีในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์อย่างไร” แล้วเฮเซคียาห์ก็ทรงกันแสงอย่างขมขื่น
4แล้วพระดำรัสขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้ามาถึงอิสยาห์ความว่า 5“จงไปบอกเฮเซคียาห์ว่า ‘พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของดาวิดบรรพบุรุษของท่านตรัสดังนี้ว่า เราได้ยินคำอธิษฐานและได้เห็นน้ำตาของเจ้าแล้ว เราจะต่ออายุให้เจ้าอีกสิบห้าปี 6เราจะช่วยเจ้ากับเมืองนี้ให้พ้นจากมือกษัตริย์อัสซีเรีย เราจะปกป้องเมืองนี้ไว้
7“ ‘นี่เป็นหมายสำคัญที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงให้แก่ท่านเพื่อแสดงว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะทรงทำตามที่ทรงสัญญาไว้คือ 8“เราจะทำให้เงาที่ดวงอาทิตย์ทอดลงมาบนนาฬิกาแดดของอาหัสเคลื่อนถอยหลังไปสิบขั้น” ’ ” ดังนั้นแสงอาทิตย์จึงถอยหลังกลับไปจากที่เดิมสิบขั้น
9เมื่อกษัตริย์เฮเซคียาห์แห่งยูดาห์หายประชวร พระองค์ทรงเขียนไว้ว่า
10ข้าพเจ้าได้กล่าวว่า “บัดนี้ชีวิตของข้าพเจ้าได้มาถึงช่วงที่รุ่งโรจน์ที่สุด
ก็จะต้องผ่านเข้าประตูแห่งความตาย
และปีเดือนที่เหลืออยู่ก็จะต้องถูกฉกฉวยไปหรือ?”
11ข้าพเจ้าได้พูดว่า “ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ได้เห็นองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า อีก
จะไม่เห็นองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ในแดนผู้มีชีวิตอีกต่อไป
ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่ได้เห็นมนุษยชาติอีกแล้ว
และจะไม่ได้อยู่ร่วมกับเพื่อนมนุษย์ในโลกนี้38:11 สำเนาต้นฉบับภาษาฮีบรูส่วนใหญ่ว่าในที่หยุดพักอีกต่อไป
12เรือนของข้าพเจ้าถูกรื้อและนำไปจากข้าพเจ้า
เหมือนเต็นท์ของคนเลี้ยงแกะถูกถอนออกไป
ข้าพเจ้าม้วนเก็บชีวิตของข้าพเจ้าเหมือนช่างทอ
และพระองค์ทรงตัดข้าพเจ้าออกจากหูก
ทั้งวันทั้งคืนพระองค์ทรงนำข้าพเจ้ามาถึงจุดจบ
13ข้าพเจ้าอดทนรอคอยตราบจนรุ่งสาง
แต่พระองค์ทรงหักกระดูกทั้งสิ้นของข้าพเจ้าประหนึ่งสิงโต
ทั้งวันทั้งคืนพระองค์ทรงนำข้าพเจ้ามาถึงจุดจบ
14ข้าพเจ้าร้องอย่างนกนางแอ่นและนกเดินดง
ข้าพเจ้าครวญครางเหมือนนกเขา
ดวงตาของข้าพเจ้าหมองช้ำเมื่อเพ่งมองฟ้าสวรรค์
ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ข้าพระองค์เป็นทุกข์ยิ่งนัก โปรดเสด็จมาช่วยข้าพระองค์ด้วยเถิด!”
15แต่ข้าพเจ้าจะทูลอะไรได้?
พระองค์ได้ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้า และเป็นพระองค์เองที่ทรงทำการนี้
ข้าพเจ้าจะดำเนินด้วยความถ่อมใจตลอดชีวิตของข้าพเจ้า
เพราะความร้าวรานในวิญญาณของข้าพเจ้า
16ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า มนุษย์ดำรงชีวิตอยู่ได้ด้วยสิ่งเหล่านี้
และจิตวิญญาณของข้าพระองค์พบชีวิตในสิ่งเหล่านี้ด้วย
พระองค์ทรงทำให้ข้าพระองค์หายป่วย
และให้ข้าพระองค์มีชีวิตอยู่
17แน่นอน ที่ข้าพระองค์ทุกข์ทรมานเช่นนี้
ก็เป็นผลดีแก่ข้าพระองค์เอง
โดยความรักของพระองค์ พระองค์ทรงปกป้องข้าพระองค์
ให้พ้นจากห้วงหายนะ
พระองค์ทรงนำบาปทั้งสิ้นของข้าพระองค์
ไปไว้ข้างหลังพระองค์
18เพราะหลุมฝังศพไม่สามารถสรรเสริญพระองค์
ความตายไม่สามารถร้องเพลงสรรเสริญพระองค์
ผู้ที่ลงไปสู่เหวลึก
ไม่สามารถหวังในความซื่อสัตย์ของพระองค์
19ผู้มีชีวิตเท่านั้นสามารถสรรเสริญพระองค์
เหมือนที่ข้าพระองค์กำลังทำอยู่ในวันนี้
บิดาทั้งหลายบอกถึงความซื่อสัตย์ของพระองค์
แก่ลูกๆ ของพวกเขา
20องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะทรงช่วยข้าพเจ้าให้รอด
และพวกเราจะร้องเพลงคลอด้วยเครื่องสาย
ตลอดวันคืนชีวิตของพวกเรา
ในพระวิหารขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
21อิสยาห์ได้กล่าวว่า “จงเตรียมยาพอกจากมะเดื่อ แล้วนำไปพอกที่ฝีนั้น พระองค์จะหายประชวร”
22เฮเซคียาห์ได้ตรัสถามว่า “อะไรจะเป็นหมายสำคัญให้รู้ว่าเราจะขึ้นไปยังพระวิหารขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้อีก?”
