The High Priest of a New Covenant
1Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.
3Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. 5They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”8:5 Exodus 25:40 6But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.
7For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. 8But God found fault with the people and said8:8 Some manuscripts may be translated fault and said to the people.:
“The days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
9It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
10This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”8:12 Jer. 31:31-34
13By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
Isus, Marele Preot al Noului Legământ
1Partea cea mai importantă a celor spuse este că avem un astfel de Mare Preot, Care S‑a așezat la dreapta tronului Măreției, în ceruri, 2slujitor al Locului Preasfânt și al adevăratului Cort, pe care l‑a ridicat Domnul, nu omul.
3Căci fiecare mare preot este pus responsabil să aducă atât daruri, cât și jertfe. Astfel, a trebuit ca și Acesta să aibă ceva de adus. 4Așadar, dacă ar fi pe pământ, nu ar mai fi Preot, întrucât există preoți care aduc daruri potrivit cu Legea. 5Ei slujesc unei copii și unei umbre a lucrurilor cerești, așa cum a fost avertizat Moise atunci când urma să ridice Cortul. Căci El a zis: „Vezi să faci totul după modelul care ți‑a fost arătat pe munte!“5 Vezi Ex. 25:40. 6Însă acum El a obținut o slujbă6 Gr.: leitourghia, de unde provine termenul românesc liturghie. cu mult mai deosebită, de vreme ce El este și Mijlocitorul unui legământ mai bun, care a fost legiferat pe baza unor promisiuni mai bune.
7Dacă primul legământ ar fi fost fără cusur, atunci nu s‑ar mai fi căutat loc pentru al doilea. 8Dar El, găsindu‑i cusur, le zice:8 Unele mss conțin: Dar El, găsindu‑le cusur, zice:
„Iată, vin zile, zice Domnul,
când voi încheia cu Casa lui Israel
și cu Casa lui Iuda
un nou legământ,
9nu ca legământul pe care l‑am făcut cu strămoșii9 Lit.: tații. lor,
în ziua când i‑am luat de mână
ca să‑i scot din țara Egiptului.
Pentru că n‑au rămas în legământul Meu,
nici Mie nu Mi‑a păsat de ei, zice Domnul.
10Ci acesta este legământul pe care‑l voi încheia cu Casa lui Israel,
după acele zile, zice Domnul:
voi pune legile Mele în mintea lor
și le voi scrie în inimile lor.
Eu voi fi Dumnezeul lor,
iar ei vor fi poporul Meu.
11Și niciunul nu va mai învăța pe semenul
sau pe fratele său, zicând: «Cunoaște‑L pe Domnul!»,
pentru că toți Mă vor cunoaște,
de la cel mai mic până la cel mai mare,
12căci voi fi îndurător în ce privește nedreptățile lor
și nu‑Mi voi mai aminti de păcatele lor.“12 Vezi Ier. 31:31-34.
13Vorbind despre „un nou legământ“, El l‑a declarat pe primul învechit, iar ceea ce este învechit și îmbătrânit este aproape de dispariție.
