False Prophets Condemned
1The word of the Lord came to me: 2“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: ‘Hear the word of the Lord! 3This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish13:3 Or wicked prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! 4Your prophets, Israel, are like jackals among ruins. 5You have not gone up to the breaches in the wall to repair it for the people of Israel so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the Lord. 6Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. Even though the Lord has not sent them, they say, “The Lord declares,” and expect him to fulfill their words. 7Have you not seen false visions and uttered lying divinations when you say, “The Lord declares,” though I have not spoken?
8“ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign Lord. 9My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.
10“ ‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, 11therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth. 12When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, “Where is the whitewash you covered it with?”
13“ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury. 14I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it13:14 Or the city falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the Lord. 15So I will pour out my wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash. I will say to you, “The wall is gone and so are those who whitewashed it, 16those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace, declares the Sovereign Lord.” ’
17“Now, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own imagination. Prophesy against them 18and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own? 19You have profaned me among my people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread. By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live.
20“ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds and I will tear them from your arms; I will set free the people that you ensnare like birds. 21I will tear off your veils and save my people from your hands, and they will no longer fall prey to your power. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 22Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies, when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives, 23therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will save my people from your hands. And then you will know that I am the Lord.’ ”

さばきを受ける偽預言者
1それから、次のようなことばがありました。
2-3「人の子よ、イスラエルの偽預言者どもに預言しなさい。彼らは自分勝手に幻を考え出し、わたしが何も語らないのに、わたしからのお告げだと主張している。そのような者はのろわれるべきだ。 4ああ、イスラエルよ。あなたの預言者どもは、まるで廃墟にいるきつねのように城壁再建の役には立たない。 5ああ、悪い預言者ども。敵の攻撃に備えて城壁を補強し、主によってイスラエルを強化するために、おまえたちは何をしたのか。 6かえって、『これは神からのお告げです』と言って、偽りを語っている。わたしはおまえたちなど遣わさなかった。それなのに、自分たちの預言が実現することを期待している。 7見たこともないのに幻を見たと言ったり、わたしが何も語らないのに、『このお告げは神からのものです』と言ったりしたことを否定できるのか。」
8それゆえ、神である主は語ります。「わたしはこれらの幻と偽りのゆえに、おまえたちを滅ぼそう。 9わたしはおまえたちに向かい、イスラエルの指導者の中から切り捨てる。おまえたちの名を消し去る。おまえたちは二度と祖国を見ることがない。その時、おまえたちは、わたしが主であることを知る。 10まことに、この悪者どもは、『神は平安を下さる』と言って、わたしの民を惑わしている。彼らに平安を与えることなど、わたしの計画には全く入っていない。わたしの民はもろい壁を建てているのに、偽預言者どもはそれをほめそやし、しっくいで上塗りをしている。
11その者たちに、『その壁は倒れるぞ』と警告せよ。大雨が土台を浸食し、大粒の雹と激しい風が壁を打ち倒す。 12壁が倒れると、人々は、『なぜ初めから、それではだめだと注意してくれなかったのだ。なぜ、上塗りをして欠陥を覆うようなことをしたのだ』と叫ぶ。 13壁は必ず倒れるのだ。」そう主は言います。「わたしは怒りの嵐と洪水と雹とによって、壁をなぎ倒す。 14しっくいで上塗りした壁を打ち壊す。壁はおまえたちの上に倒れて、おまえたちを押しつぶす。その時、おまえたちは、わたしが主であることを知る。 15こうして、わたしの怒りは消える。それで、壁をほめそやした者どもについてわたしは、『壁も、それを建てた者たちも消え去った』と言おう。 16彼らはまさしく偽預言者だった。ほんとうは平安がないのに、エルサレムには平安がある、と言っていたのだ。」神である主がこう語るのです。
17-18「人の子よ。主からお告げを与えられているかのように装っている女預言者どもに、神である主はこう言うと語れ。『人々の手首に魔術のお札を結び、魔術のベールをかぶらせ、わたしの民のたましいを破滅させている女たちはのろわれよ。この女たちは、自分に利益がないと知ると、すぐに援助の手を引っ込める。 19ほんの一つかみの大麦のために、あるいは、ほんの一切れのパンのために、わたしの民をわたしから去らせようとするのか。おまえたちは、死んではならない者を死に追いやったのだ。わたしの民を欺き、生きていてはならない者にいのちを約束している。そうするのが、彼女たちの好む手口だ。』」
20主は語ります。「おまえたちがわたしの国民のたましいを魔術にかけているので、おまえたちを押し倒す。わたしは魔術のひもを引きちぎり、かごの鳥を放つように、わたしの民を解放する。 21魔術のベールも引き裂き、おまえたちの手からわたしの民を救い出す。もう彼らは、おまえたちの餌食ではない。その時、おまえたちも、わたしが主であることを知る。 22おまえたちの偽りは、わたしの意に反して、正しい人を落胆させた。それどころか、罪の生活を続ける者たちにいのちの約束をして、その悪者どもを力づけるようなことまでしたのだ。 23だが、もうそんなことは許されない。見たこともない幻を見たと言ったり、魔術をしたりすることもできなくなる。わたしがおまえたちを滅ぼして、わたしの民をおまえたちの手から救い出すからだ。こうしておまえたちも、わたしが主であることを知る。」
