Paul’s Trial Before Festus
1Three days after arriving in the province, Festus went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem, 2where the chief priests and the Jewish leaders appeared before him and presented the charges against Paul. 3They requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way. 4Festus answered, “Paul is being held at Caesarea, and I myself am going there soon. 5Let some of your leaders come with me, and if the man has done anything wrong, they can press charges against him there.”
6After spending eight or ten days with them, Festus went down to Caesarea. The next day he convened the court and ordered that Paul be brought before him. 7When Paul came in, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him. They brought many serious charges against him, but they could not prove them.
8Then Paul made his defense: “I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law or against the temple or against Caesar.”
9Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?”
10Paul answered: “I am now standing before Caesar’s court, where I ought to be tried. I have not done any wrong to the Jews, as you yourself know very well. 11If, however, I am guilty of doing anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by these Jews are not true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!”
12After Festus had conferred with his council, he declared: “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you will go!”
Festus Consults King Agrippa
13A few days later King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea to pay their respects to Festus. 14Since they were spending many days there, Festus discussed Paul’s case with the king. He said: “There is a man here whom Felix left as a prisoner. 15When I went to Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews brought charges against him and asked that he be condemned.
16“I told them that it is not the Roman custom to hand over anyone before they have faced their accusers and have had an opportunity to defend themselves against the charges. 17When they came here with me, I did not delay the case, but convened the court the next day and ordered the man to be brought in. 18When his accusers got up to speak, they did not charge him with any of the crimes I had expected. 19Instead, they had some points of dispute with him about their own religion and about a dead man named Jesus who Paul claimed was alive. 20I was at a loss how to investigate such matters; so I asked if he would be willing to go to Jerusalem and stand trial there on these charges. 21But when Paul made his appeal to be held over for the Emperor’s decision, I ordered him held until I could send him to Caesar.”
22Then Agrippa said to Festus, “I would like to hear this man myself.”
He replied, “Tomorrow you will hear him.”
Paul Before Agrippa
23The next day Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the audience room with the high-ranking military officers and the prominent men of the city. At the command of Festus, Paul was brought in. 24Festus said: “King Agrippa, and all who are present with us, you see this man! The whole Jewish community has petitioned me about him in Jerusalem and here in Caesarea, shouting that he ought not to live any longer. 25I found he had done nothing deserving of death, but because he made his appeal to the Emperor I decided to send him to Rome. 26But I have nothing definite to write to His Majesty about him. Therefore I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that as a result of this investigation I may have something to write. 27For I think it is unreasonable to send a prisoner on to Rome without specifying the charges against him.”

6Sobra sa usa ka semana nga nagpabilin si Festus didto sa Jerusalem, pagkahuman mibalik siya sa Cesarea. Pagkasunod nga adlaw milingkod siya sa hukmanan ug nagsugo nga pasudlon si Pablo. 7Sa pagsulod ni Pablo gilibotan dayon siya sa mga Judio nga gikan sa Jerusalem, ug daghan ang gisulti nila nga mga bug-at nga sumbong batok kaniya nga dili gani nila mapamatud-an. 8Gipanalipdan ni Pablo ang iyang kaugalingon. Miingon siya, “Wala akoy sala nga nahimo batok sa Kasugoan sa mga Judio, sa templo, o sa Emperador ba hinuon sa Roma.” 9Tungod kay gusto usab ni Festus nga magustohan siya sa mga Judio gipangutana niya si Pablo, “Gusto mo ba nga moadto sa Jerusalem ug didto ko husayon kining imong kaso?” 10Mitubag si Pablo, “Ania na ako dinhi nagatindog sa korte sa Emperador, ug dinhi mo ako angay nga hukman. Wala akoy nahimo nga sala sa mga Judio, ug nahibaloan mo gayod kini. 11Kon nakalapas man ako sa kasugoan ug angay akong silotan sa kamatayon, dawaton ko. Apan kon walay kamatuoran ang mga sumbong nila batok kanako, dili ako angay nga itugyan kanila. Busa modangop na lang ako sa Emperador sa Roma!” 12Nakig-estorya dayon si Festus sa mga miyembro sa iyang korte, ug pagkahuman miingon siya kang Pablo, “Tungod kay modangop ka sa Emperador, ipadala ko ikaw kaniya.”
Gipaatubang si Pablo kang Haring Agripa

Siya ang anak ni Haring Herodes nga makita sa 12:1. ug ang iyang manghod nga si Bernice tungod kay gusto nilang bisitahan si Festus nga gobernador. 14Sa nakapuyo na sila didto ug pipila ka adlaw, gisulti ni Festus sa hari ang kaso ni Pablo. Miingon siya, “May priso dinhi nga gibilin sa gobernador kaniadto nga si Felix. 15Pag-adto ko sa Jerusalem, kini nga tawo gisumbong kanako sa kadagkoan sa mga pari ug sa mga pangulo sa mga Judio. Gihangyo gayod nila kanako nga hukman ko na siya ug silotan. 16Giingnan ko sila nga dili batasan sa mga Romanhon nga silotan si bisan kinsa nga wala moatubang sa mga nagsumbong kaniya, ug wala pa mahatagi sa kahigayonan nga matubag niya ang mga sumbong batok kaniya. 17Busa miuban sila kanako pagbalik dinhi sa Cesarea. Wala ako mag-usik ug panahon, sa pagkasunod nga adlaw milingkod ako sa hukmanan ug gipatawag ko kining tawhana. 18Naghunahuna ako nga may bug-at gayod sila nga sumbong batok kaniya, apan sa nagaatubangay na sila, wala man diay silay ikasumbong nga daotan batok kaniya. 19Ang mga butang nga gilantugian nila walay lain kondili ang mahitungod lamang sa ilang mga tuo-tuo ug mahitungod sa usa ka tawo nga ginganlan ug Jesus. Patay na kini nga tawo, apan sumala kang Pablo buhi siya. 20Wala ako mahibalo kon unsay akong himuon niini nga kaso, busa gipangutana ko si Pablo kon gusto niya nga moadto sa Jerusalem ug didto mismo husayon ang kaso. 21Apan nagaingon si Pablo nga idangop na lang niya ang iyang kaso ngadto sa Emperador aron ang Emperador mismo ang mohukom. Busa gipabantayan ko siya hangtod nga mapadala ko siya sa Emperador.” 22Miingon si Agripa kang Festus, “Gusto kong paminawon kining tawhana.” Miingon si Festus, “Sige, ugma madunggan mo siya.”
23Pagkasunod nga adlaw miadto sa korte si Agripa ug si Bernice sa mapagarbohong pag-abot inubanan sa daghang mga opisyal sa mga sundalo ug mga inila nga mga tawo sa siyudad. Unya mimando si Festus nga dad-on sa sulod si Pablo. Sa dihang didto na sa sulod si Pablo, 24miingon si Festus, “Haring Agripa ug kamong tanan nga ania dinhi karon, ania ang tawo nga gisumbong kanako sa mga Judio dinhi sa Cesarea ug sa Jerusalem. Naninggit pa sila nga kining tawhana angay nga patyon. 25Apan sumala sa akong pagsusi wala gayod akoy nakitang hinungdan aron hukman siya ug kamatayon. Ug tungod kay siya midangop sa Emperador, mihukom ako nga ipadala siya sa Emperador. 26Apan wala gayod akoy ikasulat ngadto sa Emperador nga igong hinungdan kon nganong ipadala ko siya didto. Busa gipaatubang ko siya kaninyo ug labi na gayod kanimo haring Agripa, aron nga human nato masusi ang iyang kaso, may ikasulat na ako. 27Tungod kay dili mahimo nga ipadala ko sa Emperador ang usa ka priso nga walay klaro nga sumbong batok kaniya.”
