Faith in the Incarnate Son of God
1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
6This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three that testify: 8the5:7,8 Late manuscripts of the Vulgate testify in heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one. 8 And there are three that testify on earth: the (not found in any Greek manuscript before the fourteenth century) Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Concluding Affirmations
13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
16If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. 17All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
18We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
21Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
ايمان به فرزند خدا عيسی مسيح
1هر كه ايمان دارد كه عيسی همان مسيح و فرزند خدا و نجات دهندهٔ عالم است، او فرزند خداست. هر كه خدای پدر را دوست دارد، فرزندان او را نيز دوست خواهد داشت. 2چگونه بدانيم فرزندان خدا را دوست داريم؟ از اينكه خدا را دوست داريم و احكام او را اطاعت می‌كنيم. 3در واقع كسی كه خدا را دوست دارد، نمی‌تواند احكام او را اطاعت نكند؛ و احكام او برای ما مشكل نيست. 4زيرا هر فرزند خدا می‌تواند احكام خدا را بجا آورد و با ايمان و توكل به مسيح، بر گناه و لذات ناپاک دنيا غلبه كند. 5فقط كسی می‌تواند بر دنيای گناه‌آلود غلبه يابد كه ايمان دارد عيسی به راستی فرزند خداست.
6-8ما می‌دانيم كه عيسی فرزند خداست، زيرا خدا دو بار اين حقيقت را از آسمان اعلام فرمود. يک بار به هنگام تعميد او، و يک بار نيز مدتی پيش از آنكه با مرگ روبرو شود. پس نه فقط به هنگام تعميدش، بلكه مدتی پيش از مرگش نيز خدا از آسمان سخن گفت. روح خدا نيز كه مظهر راستی است، اين حقيقت را تأييد می‌كند كه عيسی فرزند خداست. پس سه شاهد تأئيد می‌كنند كه عيسی فرزند خداست: صدای روح خدا در قلب ما؛ صدای آسمانی به هنگام تعميد عيسی؛ و همان صدا مدتی پيش از مرگ او. اين سه صدا، همان يک سخن را می‌گويند كه عيسی مسيح، فرزند خداست. 9در دادگاه وقتی كسی شهادتی می‌دهد، همه آن را باور می‌كنيم. حال خدا به اين وسيله شهادت می‌دهد كه عيسی فرزندش می‌باشد؛ پس چقدر بيشتر بايد شهادت خدا را بپذيريم. 10همهٔ آنانی كه به اين حقيقت ايمان می‌آورند، در قلب خود به درستی آن پی می‌برند. اما اگر كسی به اين حقيقت ايمان نياورد، در واقع خدا را دروغگو شمرده است، زيرا شهادت خدا را دربارهٔ فرزندش دروغ پنداشته است.
11اما خدا چه شهادتی داده است؟ شهادت خدا اينست كه او به ما حيات جاويد عطا كرده، و اين حيات در فرزند او عيسی مسيح است. 12پس روشن است كه هر کس مسيح را دارد، به اين حيات نيز دسترسی دارد؛ اما هر كه مسيح را ندارد، از اين حيات بی‌بهره خواهد ماند.
خاتمه
13اين نامه را نوشتم تا شما كه به فرزند خدا ايمان داريد، بدانيد كه از هم اكنون، از حيات جاويد برخورداريد. 14از این رو، خاطرجمع هستيم كه هرگاه از خدا چيزی مطابق خواست او بطلبيم، دعای ما را خواهد شنيد؛ 15و اگر يقين داريم كه دعای ما را می‌شنود، می‌توانيم به اين هم اطمينان داشته باشيم كه آنچه از او بخواهيم، به ما عطا خواهد كرد.
16اگر می‌بينيد كه برادر شما مرتكب گناهی می‌شود كه منتهی به مرگ نيست، از خدا بخواهيد كه او را ببخشد، و خدا نيز به او حيات جاويد عطا خواهد كرد، به اين شرط كه گناهش منتهی به مرگ نباشد. زيرا گناهی هست كه منجر به مرگ می‌شود، و نمی‌گويم كه برای آن دعا كنيد. 17البته هر كار نادرست گناه است، اما گناهی هست كه منتهی به مرگ نمی‌شود.
18می‌دانيم هر كه فرزند خدا شده است، خود را به گناه آلوده نمی‌كند، زيرا مسيح كه فرزند خداست، او را حفظ می‌كند تا دست شيطان به او نرسد.
19می‌دانيم كه ما فرزندان خدا هستيم و بقيهٔ مردم دنيا، تحت قدرت و سلطهٔ شيطان قرار دارند. 20می‌دانيم كه فرزند خدا آمده و به ما بينش داده تا خدای حقيقی را بشناسيم. و حالا ما در خدا هستيم، زيرا در فرزندش عيسی مسيح قرار گرفته‌ايم كه تنها خدای حقيقی و حيات جاودانی است.
21فرزندان من، از هر چه كه جای خدا را در قلبتان می‌گيرد، دوری كنيد.
