The Resurrection of Christ
1Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance15:3 Or you at the first: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas,15:5 That is, Peter and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.
The Resurrection of the Dead
12But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27For he “has put everything under his feet.”15:27 Psalm 8:6 Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.
29Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? 30And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? 31I face death every day—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised,
“Let us eat and drink,
for tomorrow we die.”15:32 Isaiah 22:13
33Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”15:33 From the Greek poet Menander 34Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
The Resurrection Body
35But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”15:45 Gen. 2:7; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we15:49 Some early manuscripts so let us bear the image of the heavenly man.
50I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”15:54 Isaiah 25:8

56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

12しかし、これだけは言わせてください。私たちが伝えたとおり、あなたがたが、キリストの死からの復活を信じているのなら、なぜ、「死んだ者は二度と生き返らない」と言ったりする人が出るのですか。 13もし死者の復活がないなら、キリストは今も死んだままのはずです。 14もしそれが事実なら、私たちが宣べ伝えていることは無意味であり、あなたがたの信仰も価値のないものとなるのです。 15そして、私たちは、大うそつきということになります。なぜなら、もし死者の復活がないのなら、神はキリストを復活させることはなかったはずですが、私たちは、「神がキリストを墓からよみがえらせた」と主張しているからです。 16もし死者が復活しないのなら、キリストも復活しなかったでしょう。 17そして、もしキリストが復活しなかったのなら、信仰はむなしく、あなたがたは今も罪の中にいるのです。 18また、すでに死んだクリスチャンは、みな滅んでしまったことになります。 19もしクリスチャンであることが、この世の生活でしか価値がないのなら、私たちほどみじめな者はありません。
20しかし、事実、キリストは死者の中から復活しました。そして、復活が約束されているすべての人の初穂（その年の収穫の最初の束）となられたのです。 21一人の人（アダム）の行為によって、死がこの世に入って来ました。そして、このもう一人の人（キリスト）の行為によって、死者の復活が入って来たのです。 22罪深いアダムにあってすべての人が死んでいるように、キリストによってすべての人が生かされるのです。 23ただし、その順番があります。最初にキリストが復活なさいました。次に、キリストが帰って来られる時に、キリストに属する全員が復活します。 24そのあとで、終わりが来ます。その時、キリストはあらゆる敵を滅ぼし、この世界を父なる神にお渡しになります。
25王としてキリストが支配なさるのは、敵を全滅させる時までだからです。 26その敵の中には、究極の敵である死も入っています。死もまた滅ぼされなければならないのです。 27というのは、キリストには、すべてのものを支配する権威が、父なる神から授けられているからです。ただ、すべてのものと言っても、この支配権をお授けになった父なる神だけは、もちろんキリストの支配下に含まれません。 28キリストはあらゆる敵との戦いに勝利を収めると、神の子として、ご自分を父なる神の支配におゆだねになります。それは、子にすべてを征服する力をお授けになった神様が、最高の存在となられるためです。
29もし死者の復活がないのなら、死んだ人のためにバプテスマ（洗礼）を受けることには何の意味があるのですか。将来の死者の復活を信じてもいないのに、どうしてそんなことをするのでしょう。 30また、なぜ私たちは、いつも死に直面し、いのちの危険にさらされるのに甘んじているのでしょうか。 31事実、私は毎日、死に直面しています。このことは、あなたがたの主にある成長を私が誇るのと同じように、確かなことです。 32もし私が、この地上の生涯のためにエペソでの苦難と戦ったのだとしたら、どれだけの価値があったでしょう。死後の復活などありえないのなら、「どうせ明日は死ぬ身だ。大いに飲み食いして、愉快に過ごそう」ということになります。 33そういう人たちにだまされてはいけません。それに耳を傾けていると、同じ状態に陥ってしまいます。 34目を覚まして、罪を犯すのをやめなさい。あなたがたが恥じ入るためにあえて言いますが、あなたがたの中には、神について実際には何も知らない人がいます。
復活の新しい体とは？
35しかし、こう聞く人もいるでしょう。「死んだ人は、どのように復活するのですか。どんな体になるのですか。」 36なんと愚かな質問でしょう。畑を見ればわかるではありませんか。まいた種は、まず死ななければ芽を出しません。 37そして、その種から出る緑の芽は、初めの種とは全く別物です。土にまくのは、麦でも何でも、干からびた小さな種粒です。 38ところが神様は、その種に、それぞれにふさわしい、美しく新しい体を与えてくださいます。それで、いろいろな種類の種から、それぞれ植物が成長してくるのです。 39いろいろな種類の種や植物があるように、肉にもいろいろな種類があります。人間、獣、鳥、魚の肉は、それぞれみな異なっています。 40天使は、私たちとは全く異なった体を持っています。その美しさや栄光は、人間の体の美しさや栄光とは異なっています。 41太陽には太陽の栄光があり、月や星には別の栄光があります。一つ一つの星にも、美しさや輝きに違いがあります。
42同じように、死んだら朽ち果てる、私たちの地上の体は、復活の時に与えられる体とは異なったものです。復活の体は決して死にません。 43いま持っている体は、病気や死で私たちを悩ませます。しかし復活の時には、それは栄光に満ちたものとなるのです。確かに、今は死ぬべき弱い体ですが、復活の時には力にあふれた体となるのです。 44そして、今は死ぬべき人間の肉体にすぎませんが、復活の時には、神から与えられる霊の体になります。自然のままの肉体があるように、神からの霊の体も存在するのです。 45聖書には、「最初の人アダムは、生きたものとなった」（創世2・7）と書いてありますが、キリストは、いのちを与える方となられたのです。 46初めはこのような体をまとっている私たちも、後には、霊の体を与えられます。 47アダムは地上の土から造られた者ですが、キリストは天から来られた方です。 48人間はだれでも、アダムと同じ土の体を持っています。しかし、キリストのものとなった人はみな、キリストと同じ、天から与えられる体を持つようになるのです。 49今アダムと同じ体を持っている私たちは、そのように、いつの日かキリストと同じ体を持つのです。
50愛する皆さん。念を押して言います。地上の、血と肉の体は、神の国から閉め出されます。今の私たちの体は死ぬべきもので、永遠に生きることはできません。 51ここであなたがたに、驚くべき神の奥義を告げましょう。私たちはみな、新しい栄光の体をいただくのです。 52終わりのラッパが鳴り渡る時、一瞬のうちにそうなるのです。天からラッパの音が響くと、死んでいたすべてのクリスチャンは、たちまち朽ちない新しい体に復活します。次に、まだ生き残っている者もまた、一瞬にして新しい体に変わるのです。 53なぜなら、地上の死ぬべき今の体は、天上の決して死ぬことのない、永遠に生きる体に変えられなければならないからです。 54この時、「死は勝利にのみ込まれた」（イザヤ25・8）という聖書のことばが現実となるのです。 55-56「死よ。おまえの勝利はどこにあるのか。死よ。おまえのとげはどこにあるのか。」（ホセア13・14）罪、すなわち死をもたらすとげは、ことごとく切り取られます。そして、罪をあばく律法も、もはや私たちをさばきません。 57これらのことを、どう神に感謝したらよいでしょう。神様は、主イエス・キリストによって、私たちに勝利を与えてくださるのです。 58愛する皆さん。このように将来の勝利は確実なのですから、しっかり立って、動揺することなく、いつも、主の働きに熱心に励みなさい。なぜなら、復活は確かであり、主のための働きが決してむだに終わらないことを、あなたがたは知っているからです。
