The Japhethites

The Semites

17The sons of Shem:

Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.

Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.

18Arphaxad was the father of Shelah,

and Shelah the father of Eber.

19Two sons were born to Eber:

One was named Peleg,1:19 Peleg means division. because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

20Joktan was the father of

Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 22Obal,1:22 Some Hebrew manuscripts and Syriac (see also Gen. 10:28); most Hebrew manuscripts Ebal Abimael, Sheba, 23Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

The Family of Abraham

Descendants of Hagar

29These were their descendants:

Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael.

Descendants of Keturah

32The sons born to Keturah, Abraham’s concubine:

Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.

The sons of Jokshan:

Sheba and Dedan.

33The sons of Midian:

Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah.

All these were descendants of Keturah.

Descendants of Sarah

34Abraham was the father of Isaac.

The sons of Isaac:

Esau and Israel.

Esau’s Sons

35The sons of Esau:

Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam and Korah.

36The sons of Eliphaz:

The People of Seir in Edom

Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan’s sister.

40The sons of Shobal:

The sons of Zibeon:

Aiah and Anah.

41The son of Anah:

Dishon.

The sons of Dishon:

The Rulers of Edom

43These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned:

Bela son of Beor, whose city was named Dinhabah.

44When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king.

45When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

46When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.

47When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.

48When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river1:48 Possibly the Euphrates succeeded him as king.

49When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.

50When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau,1:50 Many Hebrew manuscripts, some Septuagint manuscripts, Vulgate and Syriac (see also Gen. 36:39); most Hebrew manuscripts Pai and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. 51Hadad also died.

The chiefs of Edom were:

Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 52Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom.

1Estas são as mais antigas gerações da humanidade:

Adão, Sete, Enos,

2Quenã, Malaliel, Jarede,

3Enoque, Metusalém, Lameque,

4Noé, Sem, Cam e Jafete.

5Os filhos de Jafete foram:

Gomer, Magogue, Madai, Javã, Tubal, Meseque e Tiras.

6Os filhos de Gomer:

Asquenaz, Rifat e Togarma.

7Os filhos de Javã:

Elisá, Társis, Quitim e Dodanim.

8Os filhos de Cam foram:

Cuche, Mizraim, Pute e Canaã.

9Os filhos de Cuche:

Seba, Havila, Sabta, Rama e Sabteca.

Os filhos de Ramá:

Sabá e Dedã.

10Um dos descendentes de Cuche foi Nimrode que se tornou um dos homens mais poderosos da Terra.

11As famílias que descenderam de Mizraim foram os ludeus, anameus, leabeus, naftueus, 12patruseus e caslueus, de onde descenderam os filisteus e os caftoreus.

13Entre os descendentes de Canaã contam-se Sídon, o seu filho primogénito, e Hete. 14Canaã foi também o antepassado dos jebuseus, amorreus, girgaseus, 15heveus, arqueus, sineus, 16arvadeus, zemareus e hamateus.

17Os filhos de Sem foram:

Elão, Assur, Arfaxade, Lude, Aram, Uz, Hul, Geter, Meseque.

18Arfaxade gerou Sala e este gerou Eber.

19Eber teve dois filhos:

Pelegue, porque foi durante a sua vida que os povos de todo o mundo começaram a separar-se e a dispersar-se, e Joctã.

20Os filhos de Joctã foram Almodade, Selefe, Hazarmavet, Jera, 21Hadorão, Uzal, Dicla, 22Ebal, Abimael, Sabá, 23Ofir, Havila e Jobabe.

24Um dos filhos de Sem foi Arfaxade, cujos descendentes foram: Sala,

25Eber, Pelegue, Reu,

26Serugue, Naor, Tera,

27Abrão, cujo nome foi mudado para Abraão.

28Os filhos de Abraão foram Isaque e Ismael.

29Ismael teve os seguintes filhos:

Nabaiote, Quedar, Adbeel, Mibsão, 30Misma, Dumá, Massá, Hadad, Tema, 31Jetur, Nafis e Quedmá.

32Abraão teve da sua concubina Quetura:

Zimrã, Jocsã, Medã, Midiã, Jisbaque e Suá.

Os filhos de Jocsã foram:

Sabá e Dedã.

33Os filhos de Midiã:

Efá, Efer, Enoque, Abida e Eldá.

Estes foram os seus descendentes por parte de Quetura.

34Isaque, o filho de Abraão, teve dois filhos:

Esaú e Israel.

35Os filhos de Esaú foram:

Elifaz, Reuel, Jeús, Jalam e Coré.

36Os filhos de Elifaz:

Temã, Omar, Zefô, Gaetã, Quenaz e Amaleque, cuja mãe era Timna.

37Os filhos de Reuel:

Naate, Zera, Samá e Mizá.

38Seir teve também outros filhos:

Lotã, Sobal, Zibeão, Aná, Disom, Eser e Disã.

39Teve igualmente uma filha chamada Timna. Os filhos de Lotã foram

Hori e Homã.

40Os filhos de Sobal:

Alvã, Manaate, Ebal, Sefô e Onã.

Zibeão teve os seguintes filhos:

Aia e Aná.

41Aná teve um filho:

Disom.

Os filhos de Disom:

Hamran, Esbã, Itrã e Querã.

42Os filhos de Eser:

Bilã, Zaavã e Jaacã.

Os filhos de Disã:

Uz e Aram.

Os reis de Edom

(Gn 36.31-43)

43A seguir, dá-se uma lista dos reis de Edom que reinaram antes dos reis de Israel dominarem a terra: Bela, filho de Beor, que viveu na cidade de Dinabá.

44Quando Bela morreu, reinou em seu lugar Jobabe, filho de Zera, originário de Bozra.

45Quando Jobabe faleceu, tornou-se rei Husão, da terra dos temanitas.

46Depois de Husão, tomou o trono Hadade, o filho de Bedade, o qual destruiu os exércitos dos midianitas nos campos de Moabe. O nome da sua cidade era Avite.

47Após Hadade, tomou o seu lugar Samela de Masreca.

48Quando Samela morreu, subiu ao trono Saul, da cidade de Reobote, junto ao rio Eufrates.

49Saul morreu e substituiu-o no trono Baal-Hanã, filho de Acbor.

50Após o falecimento de Baal-Hanã, começou a reinar Hadade, que tinha o seu trono na cidade de Paú, e era casado com Metabel, filha de Matrede e neta de Mezaabe.

51Falecido Hadade, os reis de Edom foram os seguintes:

clã de Timna, clã de Alva, clã de Jetete, 52clã de Aolibama, clã de Elá, clã de Pinom, 53clã de Quenaz, clã de Temã, clã de Mibzar, 54clã de Magdiel e clã de Irã.
