17The sons of Shem:

Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.

Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.

18Arphaxad was the father of Shelah,

and Shelah the father of Eber.

19Two sons were born to Eber:

One was named Peleg,1:19 Peleg means division. because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

20Joktan was the father of

Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 22Obal,1:22 Some Hebrew manuscripts and Syriac (see also Gen. 10:28); most Hebrew manuscripts Ebal Abimael, Sheba, 23Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

Descendants of Hagar

29These were their descendants:

Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael.

Descendants of Keturah

32The sons born to Keturah, Abraham’s concubine:

Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.

The sons of Jokshan:

Sheba and Dedan.

33The sons of Midian:

Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah.

All these were descendants of Keturah.

Descendants of Sarah

34Abraham was the father of Isaac.

The sons of Isaac:

Esau and Israel.

Esau’s Sons

35The sons of Esau:

Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam and Korah.

The Rulers of Edom

43These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned:

Bela son of Beor, whose city was named Dinhabah.

44When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king.

45When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

46When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.

47When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.

48When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river1:48 Possibly the Euphrates succeeded him as king.

49When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.

50When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau,1:50 Many Hebrew manuscripts, some Septuagint manuscripts, Vulgate and Syriac (see also Gen. 36:39); most Hebrew manuscripts Pai and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. 51Hadad also died.

The chiefs of Edom were:

Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 52Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom.

Von Adam bis Abraham

1Dies ist das Verzeichnis von Adams Nachkommen bis zu Noah:

Adam, Set, Enosch, 2Kenan, Mahalalel, Jered,

3Henoch, Metuschelach, Lamech, 4Noah.

Noah hatte drei Söhne: Sem, Ham und Jafet.

5Jafets Söhne waren Gomer, Magog, Madai, Jawan, Tubal, Meschech und Tiras. 6Gomers Söhne hießen Aschkenas, Rifat und Togarma, 7Jawans Söhne Elischa und Tarsis; von ihm stammten auch die Kittäer und die Rodaniter ab.

8Hams Söhne waren Kusch, Mizrajim, Put und Kanaan. 9-10Kuschs Söhne hießen Seba, Hawila, Sabta, Ragma und Sabtecha. Kusch hatte noch einen Sohn mit Namen Nimrod. Er war der erste große Kämpfer auf der Erde. Ragmas Söhne hießen Saba und Dedan. 11Von Mizrajim stammten ab: die Luditer, Anamiter, Lehabiter, Naftuhiter, 12Patrositer, Kaftoriter und Kasluhiter, von denen wiederum die Philister abstammten. 13Kanaans Söhne waren Sidon, sein Ältester, und Het. 14Außerdem stammten von Kanaan ab: die Jebusiter, Amoriter, Girgaschiter, 15Hiwiter, Arkiter, Siniter, 16Arwaditer, Zemariter und Hamatiter.

17Sems Söhne hießen Elam, Assur, Arpachschad, Lud und Aram. Arams Söhne waren: Uz, Hul, Geter und Masch1,17 So in Angleichung an 1. Mose 10,23. Im hebräischen Text steht der Name Meschech.. 18Arpachschads Sohn hieß Schelach, und Schelach war der Vater von Eber. 19Eber hatte zwei Söhne: Der eine hieß Peleg (»Teilung«), weil die Menschen auf der Erde damals entzweit wurden; der andere hieß Joktan. 20Joktan war der Vater von Almodad, Schelef, Hazarmawet, Jerach, 21Hadoram, Usal, Dikla, 22Obal, Abimaël, Saba, 23Ofir, Hawila und Jobab.

24Dies ist die Linie von Sem bis Abraham: Sem, Arpachschad, Schelach, 25Eber, Peleg, Regu, 26Serug, Nahor, Terach, 27Abram, der später Abraham genannt wurde.

Die Nachkommen von Abraham

28Abrahams Söhne hießen Isaak und Ismael. 29Und dies sind ihre Nachkommen:

Ismaels ältester Sohn hieß Nebajot; die übrigen Söhne waren: Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30Mischma, Duma, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31Jetur, Nafisch und Kedma.

32Auch mit seiner Nebenfrau Ketura hatte Abraham Söhne: Sie hießen Simran, Jokschan, Medan, Midian, Jischbak und Schuach. Jokschan war der Vater von Saba und Dedan, 33Midian der Vater von Efa, Efer, Henoch, Abida und Eldaa.

34Abrahams Sohn Isaak hatte zwei Söhne: Esau und Israel. 35Esaus Söhne hießen Elifas, Reguël, Jëusch, Jalam und Korach. 36Elifas war der Vater von Teman, Omar, Zefo, Gatam, Kenas, Timna und Amalek. 37Reguëls Söhne hießen Nahat, Serach, Schamma und Misa.

Die Nachkommen von Seïr

38Seïrs Söhne waren Lotan, Schobal, Zibon, Ana, Dischon, Ezer und Dischan. 39Lotans Söhne hießen Hori und Hemam, seine Schwester hieß Timna. 40Schobal war der Vater von Alwan, Manahat, Ebal, Schefi und Onam, Zibon der Vater von Ajja und Ana. 41Ana hatte einen Sohn mit Namen Dischon. Dessen Söhne hießen Hemdan, Eschban, Jitran und Keran. 42Ezers Söhne waren Bilhan, Saawan und Akan1,42 So nach zahlreichen alten Handschriften und in Angleichung an 1. Mose 36,27. Im hebräischen Text steht der Name Jaakan.. Dischans Söhne schließlich hießen Uz und Aran.

Könige und Oberhäupter der Edomiter

43Noch bevor die Israeliten einen König hatten, regierten im Land Edom nacheinander folgende Könige:

König Bela, der Sohn von Beor, in der Stadt Dinhaba;

44König Jobab, der Sohn von Serach, aus Bozra;

45König Huscham aus dem Gebiet der Temaniter;

46König Hadad, der Sohn von Bedad, in der Stadt Awit; sein Heer schlug die Midianiter im Gebiet von Moab;

47König Samla aus Masreka;

48König Schaul aus Rehobot am Fluss;

49König Baal-Hanan, der Sohn von Achbor;

50König Hadad in der Stadt Pagu; seine Frau hieß Mehetabel, sie war eine Tochter von Matred und Enkelin von Me-Sahab.

51Die Oberhäupter der edomitischen Stämme hießen Timna, Alwa, Jetet, 52Oholibama, Ela, Pinon, 53Kenas, Teman, Mibzar, 54Magdiël und Iram.
