A Vision of a Flying Scroll
1I looked up again and saw a flying scroll.
2“What do you see?” the angel asked me.
“A scroll flying in the air,” I replied. “It’s 30 feet long and 15 feet wide.”
3He said to me, “A curse sent by the Lord is written on it. It is going out over the whole land. Every thief will be driven out of the land. That is what it says on one side of the scroll. Everyone who lies when promising to tell the truth will also be driven out. That is what it says on the other side. 4The Lord who rules over all announces, ‘I will send the curse out. It will enter the house of the thief. It will also enter the house of anyone who lies when making a promise in my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely. It will pull down its beams and stones.’ ”
A Vision of a Woman in a Basket
5Then the angel who was talking with me came forward. He said to me, “Look at what is coming.”
6“What is it?” I asked.
“A basket,” he replied. “The sins of the people all through the land are in it.”
7Then the basket’s cover was lifted up. It was made out of lead. A woman was sitting in the basket! 8The angel said, “She stands for everything that is evil.” Then he pushed her down into the basket. He put the lead cover back over it.
9I looked up and saw two other women. They had wings like the wings of a stork. A wind sent by the Lord carried them along. They lifted the basket up between heaven and earth.
10“Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel.
11He replied, “To the country of Babylon. A temple will be built for it. When the temple is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.”
Le rouleau volant
1Je levai de nouveau les yeux et je vis un rouleau manuscrit qui volait. 2L’ange me demanda : Que vois-tu ?
Je lui répondis : Je vois un rouleau qui vole, il a dix mètres de long et cinq de large.
3Alors il me dit : Ce rouleau représente la malédiction divine qui se répand sur tout le pays. Sur l’une de ses faces, il est écrit que tout voleur sera chassé d’ici, et sur l’autre, que tous ceux qui prononcent de faux serments seront chassés d’ici. 4Je ferai venir cette malédiction – le Seigneur des armées célestes le déclare – pour qu’elle atteigne la maison de chaque voleur et celle des gens qui prêtent par mon nom de faux serments : elle s’établira dans cette maison et la détruira complètement, jusqu’aux poutres et aux pierres.
Le boisseau
5Puis l’ange chargé de me parler sortit et me dit : Lève les yeux et regarde ce qui vient là.
6– Qu’est-ce ? lui demandai-je.
Il me répondit : C’est un boisseau qui vient5.6 Le boisseau était la plus grande mesure de capacité des Hébreux..
Puis il ajouta : Il représente le péché du peuple5.6 le péché du peuple: dans le texte hébreu traditionnel, leur œil, ce qui vient d’une légère différence en hébreu, corrigée par les versions. dans tout le pays.
7Soudain, un couvercle de plomb se souleva et une femme apparut, assise à l’intérieur du boisseau.
8– Cette femme, me dit l’ange, c’est la Méchanceté.
Et il la repoussa à l’intérieur du boisseau qu’il referma avec le couvercle de plomb.
9Je regardai et je vis arriver deux femmes. Le vent gonflait leurs ailes semblables aux ailes des cigognes. Elles soulevèrent le boisseau entre ciel et terre. 10Je demandai à l’ange chargé de me parler : Où emportent-elles le boisseau ?
11Il me répondit : Elles l’emportent en Babylonie5.11 Pays de l’idolâtrie. La méchanceté devra être éliminée du pays d’Israël pour qu’il devienne pleinement la « terre sacrée » (2.16)., où elles lui bâtiront un sanctuaire. Lorsqu’il sera prêt, on le fixera là sur son piédestal.
