Do What Is Good Because You Are Saved
1Remind God’s people to obey rulers and authorities. Remind them to be ready to do what is good. 2Tell them not to speak evil things against anyone. Remind them to live in peace. They must consider the needs of others. They must always be gentle toward everyone.
3At one time we too acted like fools. We didn’t obey God. We were tricked. We were controlled by all kinds of desires and pleasures. We were full of evil. We wanted what belongs to others. People hated us, and we hated one another. 4But the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared. 5He saved us. It wasn’t because of the good things we had done. It was because of his mercy. He saved us by washing away our sins. We were born again. The Holy Spirit gave us new life. 6God poured out the Spirit on us freely. That’s because of what Jesus Christ our Savior has done. 7His grace made us right with God. So now we have received the hope of eternal life as God’s children. 8You can trust this saying. These things are important. Treat them that way. Then those who trust in God will be careful to commit themselves to doing good. These things are excellent. They are for the good of everyone.
9But keep away from foolish disagreements. Don’t argue about family histories. Don’t make trouble. Don’t fight about what the law teaches. Don’t argue about things like that. It doesn’t do any good. It doesn’t help anyone. 10Warn anyone who tries to get believers to separate from one another. Warn that person more than once. After that, have nothing to do with them. 11You can be sure that people like this are twisted and sinful. Their own actions judge them.
Final Words
12I will send Artemas or Tychicus to you. Then do your best to come to me at Nicopolis. I’ve decided to spend the winter there. 13Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos. Send them on their way. See that they have everything they need.
14Our people must learn to commit themselves to doing what is good. Then they can provide for people when they are in great need. If they do that, their lives won’t turn out to be useless.

विश्वासियों के लिए सामान्य निर्देश
1उन्हें याद दिलाओ कि वे हाकिमों तथा अधिकारियों के अधीन रहें, आज्ञाकारी रहें तथा हर एक भले काम के लिए तैयार रहें, 2किसी की बुराई न करें, झगड़ालू नहीं, कोमल स्वभाव के हों तथा सबके साथ विनम्र रहें.
3कभी हम भी निर्बुद्धि, आज्ञा न माननेवाले, गलत, भिन्न-भिन्न प्रकार के सुख-विलास के दास थे; बैरभाव, जलन और घृणा के पात्र के रूप में एक दूसरे के प्रति घृणा में जी रहे थे. 4किंतु जब परमेश्वर, हमारे उद्धारकर्ता की कृपा तथा मानव जाति के प्रति उनका प्रेम प्रकट हुआ, 5तो उन्होंने हमें उद्धार प्रदान किया—उन कामों के आधार पर नहीं जो हमने धार्मिकता में किए हैं परंतु अपनी ही कृपा के अनुसार नए जन्म के स्नान तथा पवित्र आत्मा के नवीकरण की निष्पत्ति में 6उसी पवित्र आत्मा की पूर्ति में, जो उन्होंने हमारे उद्धारकर्ता मसीह येशु द्वारा बहुतायत में हम पर उंडेल दिया 7कि उनके अनुग्रह के द्वारा हम धर्मी घोषित किए जाकर अनंत जीवन की आशा के अनुसार वारिस बन जाएं. 8ये बात विश्वास करने योग्य हैं. और मैं चाहता हूं कि तुम इन विषयों को निडरता से सिखाओ कि जिन्होंने परमेश्वर में विश्वास किया है, उनके मन उन कामों पर केंद्रित हो जाएं, जो सबके लिए आदर्श और लाभदायक हैं.
9मूर्खता भरे विवादों, वंशावली संबंधी झगड़े, व्यवस्था संबंधी वाद-विवाद से दूर रहो क्योंकि ये निष्फल और व्यर्थ हैं. 10झगड़ा करनेवाले व्यक्ति को पहली और दूसरी बार चेतावनी देने के बाद उससे किसी भी प्रकार का संबंध न रखो, 11यह जानते हुए कि ऐसा व्यक्ति भटक गया और पाप में लीन हो गया है. वह अपने ऊपर स्वयं दंड-आज्ञा ठहरा रहा है.
अंतिम निर्देश तथा आशीर्वचन
12जब मैं आर्तेमास या तुख़िकस को तुम्हारे पास भेजूं तो जल्द से जल्द मुझसे निकोपोलिस नगर में भेंट करने का प्रयास करना. मैंने जाड़ा वहां बिताने का निर्णय लिया है. 13अपोल्लॉस और विधि-विशेषज्ञ ज़ेनॉस की यात्रा में हर प्रकार से सहायता करना कि उन्हें किसी प्रकार की कमी न हो.
14साथी विश्वासी अच्छे कामों में जुट जाना सीखें कि रोज़ की ज़रूरतें पूरी हों और वे निष्फल न हो जाएं.
