Living as a Holy Sacrifice to God
1Brothers and sisters, God has shown you his mercy. So I am asking you to offer up your bodies to him while you are still alive. Your bodies are a holy sacrifice that is pleasing to God. When you offer your bodies to God, you are worshiping him in the right way. 2Don’t live the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.
Serving One Another in the Body of Christ
3God’s grace has been given to me. So here is what I say to every one of you. Don’t think of yourself more highly than you should. Be reasonable when you think about yourself. Keep in mind the faith God has given to each of you. 4Each of us has one body with many parts. And the parts do not all have the same purpose. 5So also we are many persons. But in Christ we are one body. And each part of the body belongs to all the other parts. 6We all have gifts. They differ according to the grace God has given to each of us. Do you have the gift of prophecy? Then use it according to the faith you have. 7If your gift is serving, then serve. If it is teaching, then teach. 8Is it encouraging others? Then encourage them. Is it giving to others? Then give freely. Is it being a leader? Then work hard at it. Is it showing mercy? Then do it cheerfully.
Love in Action
9Love must be honest and true. Hate what is evil. Hold on to what is good. 10Love one another deeply. Honor others more than yourselves. 11Stay excited about your faith as you serve the Lord. 12When you hope, be joyful. When you suffer, be patient. When you pray, be faithful. 13Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Welcome others into your homes.
14Bless those who hurt you. Bless them, and do not curse them. 15Be joyful with those who are joyful. Be sad with those who are sad. 16Agree with one another. Don’t be proud. Be willing to be a friend of people who aren’t considered important. Don’t think that you are better than others.
17Don’t pay back evil with evil. Be careful to do what everyone thinks is right. 18If possible, live in peace with everyone. Do that as much as you can. 19My dear friends, don’t try to get even. Leave room for God to show his anger. It is written, “I am the God who judges people. I will pay them back,” (Deuteronomy 32:35) says the Lord. 20Do just the opposite. Scripture says,
“If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat.
If they are thirsty, give them something to drink.
By doing those things, you will pile up burning coals on their heads.” (Proverbs 25:21,22)
21Don’t let evil overcome you. Overcome evil by doing good.
Sacrificios vivos
1Por lo tanto, hermanos, tomando en cuenta la misericordia de Dios, os ruego que cada uno de vosotros, en adoración espiritual,12:1 espiritual. Alt. racional. ofrezca su cuerpo como sacrificio vivo, santo y agradable a Dios. 2No os amoldéis al mundo actual, sino sed transformados mediante la renovación de vuestra mente. Así podréis comprobar cuál es la voluntad de Dios, buena, agradable y perfecta.
3Por la gracia que se me ha dado, os digo a todos vosotros: Nadie tenga un concepto de sí más alto que el que debe tener, sino más bien piense de sí mismo con moderación, según la medida de fe que Dios le haya dado. 4Pues, así como cada uno de nosotros tiene un solo cuerpo con muchos miembros, y no todos estos miembros desempeñan la misma función, 5también nosotros, siendo muchos, formamos un solo cuerpo en Cristo, y cada miembro está unido a todos los demás. 6Tenemos dones diferentes, según la gracia que se nos ha dado. Si el don de alguien es el de profecía, que lo use en proporción con su fe;12:6 en proporción con su fe. Alt. de acuerdo con la fe. 7si es el de prestar un servicio, que lo preste; si es el de enseñar, que enseñe; 8si es el de animar a otros, que los anime; si es el de socorrer a los necesitados, que dé con generosidad; si es el de dirigir, que dirija con esmero; si es el de mostrar compasión, que lo haga con alegría.
El amor
9El amor debe ser sincero. Aborreced el mal; aferraos al bien. 10Amaos los unos a los otros con amor fraternal, respetándoos y honrándoos mutuamente. 11Nunca dejéis de ser diligentes; antes bien, servid al Señor con el fervor que da el Espíritu. 12Alegraos en la esperanza, mostrad paciencia en el sufrimiento, perseverad en la oración. 13Ayudad a los hermanos necesitados. Practicad la hospitalidad. 14Bendecid a quienes os persigan; bendecid y no maldigáis. 15Alegraos con los que están alegres; llorad con los que lloran. 16Vivid en armonía los unos con los otros. No seáis arrogantes, sino haceos solidarios con los humildes.12:16 haceos … humildes. Alt. estad dispuestos a ocuparos en oficios humildes. No os creáis que sois los únicos que sabéis.
17No paguéis a nadie mal por mal. Procurad hacer lo bueno delante de todos. 18Si es posible, y en cuanto dependa de vosotros, vivid en paz con todos. 19No os venguéis, hermanos míos, sino dejad el castigo en las manos de Dios, porque está escrito: «Mía es la venganza; yo pagaré»,12:19 Dt 32:35 dice el Señor. 20Antes bien,
«Si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer;
si tiene sed, dale de beber.
Actuando así, harás que se avergüence de su conducta».12:20 harás … conducta. Lit. ascuas de fuego amontonarás sobre su cabeza (Pr 25:21,22).
21No te dejes vencer por el mal; al contrario, vence el mal con el bien.
