The Seven Bowls of God’s Great Anger
1Then I heard a loud voice from the temple speaking to the seven angels. “Go,” it said. “Pour out the seven bowls of God’s great anger on the earth.”
2The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land. Ugly and painful sores broke out on people. Those people had the mark of the beast and worshiped its statue.
3The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea. It turned into blood like the blood of a dead person. Every living thing in the sea died.
4The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water. They became blood. 5Then I heard the angel who was in charge of the waters. He said,
“Holy One, the way you judge is fair.
You are the God who is and who was.
6Those who worship the beast have poured out blood.
They have poured out the life’s blood of your holy people and your prophets.
So you have given blood to drink to those who worship the beast.
That’s exactly what they should get.”
7Then I heard the altar reply. It said,
“Lord God who rules over all,
the way you judge is true and fair.”
8The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun. The sun was allowed to burn people with fire. 9They were burned by the blazing heat. So they spoke evil things against the name of God, who controlled these plagues. But they refused to turn away from their sins. They did not give glory to God.
10The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast. The kingdom of the beast became very dark. People chewed on their tongues because they were suffering so much. 11They spoke evil things against the God of heaven. They did this because of their pains and their sores. But they refused to turn away from the sins they had committed.
12The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates. Its water dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East. 13Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs. They came out of the mouths of the dragon, the beast and the false prophet. 14They are spirits of demons that perform signs. They go out to gather the kings of the whole world for battle. This battle will take place on the great day of the God who rules over all.
15“Look! I am coming like a thief! Blessed is anyone who stays awake and keeps their clothes on. Then they will be ready. They will not be caught naked and so be put to shame.”
16Then the evil spirits gathered the kings together. In the Hebrew language, the place where the kings met is called Armageddon.
17The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. Out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne. It said, “It is done!” 18Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, thunder and a powerful earthquake. There has never been an earthquake as terrible as this. One like this hasn’t happened while human beings have lived on earth. 19The great city split into three parts. The cities of the nations crumbled and fell. God remembered Babylon the Great. He gave Babylon the cup filled with the wine of his terrible anger. 20Every island ran away. The mountains could not be found. 21Huge hailstones weighing about 100 pounds each fell from the sky. The hail crushed people. And they spoke evil things against God because of the plague. That’s because the plague of hail was so terrible.
Las siete copas de la ira de Dios
1Oí una voz que desde el templo decía a gritos a los siete ángeles: «¡Vayan y derramen sobre la tierra las siete copas del furor de Dios!».
2El primer ángel fue y derramó su copa sobre la tierra, y entonces a toda la gente que tenía la marca de la bestia y que adoraba su imagen, le salió una llaga maligna y repugnante.
3El segundo ángel derramó su copa sobre el mar y el mar se convirtió en sangre, como la de una persona muerta, y murió todo ser viviente que había en el mar.
4El tercer ángel derramó su copa sobre los ríos y los manantiales, entonces estos se convirtieron en sangre. 5Oí que el ángel de las aguas decía:
«Justo eres tú, el Santo,
que eres y que eras,
porque has juzgado correctamente.
6Ellos derramaron la sangre de creyentes y de profetas,
y tú les has dado a beber sangre, como se lo merecen».
7Oí también que del altar se respondía:
«Así es, Señor Dios Todopoderoso,
verdaderos y justos son tus juicios».
8El cuarto ángel derramó su copa sobre el sol, al cual se le permitió quemar con fuego a la gente. 9Todos sufrieron terribles quemaduras, pero ni así se arrepintieron; en vez de darle gloria a Dios, que tiene poder sobre esas plagas, maldijeron su nombre.
10El quinto ángel derramó su copa sobre el trono de la bestia, entonces el reino de la bestia quedó sumido en la oscuridad. La gente se mordía la lengua de dolor 11y, por causa de sus padecimientos y de sus llagas, maldecían al Dios del cielo, pero no se arrepintieron de sus obras.
12El sexto ángel derramó su copa sobre el gran río Éufrates y se secaron sus aguas para abrir paso a los reyes del oriente. 13Y vi salir de la boca del dragón, de la boca de la bestia y de la boca del falso profeta tres espíritus malignos que parecían ranas. 14Son espíritus de demonios que hacen señales y que salen a reunir a los reyes del mundo entero para la batalla del gran día del Dios Todopoderoso.
15«¡Cuidado! ¡Vengo como un ladrón! Dichoso el que se mantenga despierto, con su ropa a la mano, no sea que ande desnudo y sufra vergüenza por su desnudez».
16Entonces los espíritus de los demonios reunieron a los reyes en el lugar que en hebreo se llama Armagedón.
17El séptimo ángel derramó su copa en el aire y desde el trono del templo salió una gran voz que decía: «¡Está hecho!». 18Y hubo relámpagos, estruendos, truenos y un violento terremoto. Nunca, desde que el género humano existe en la tierra, se había sentido un terremoto tan grande y violento. 19La gran ciudad se partió en tres y las ciudades de las naciones se desplomaron. Dios se acordó de la gran Babilonia y le dio a beber de la copa llena del vino de la ira de su castigo. 20Entonces huyeron todas las islas y desaparecieron las montañas. 21Del cielo cayeron sobre la gente enormes granizos, de casi cuarenta y cinco kilogramos cada uno.16:21 granizos … cada uno. Lit. granizos que pesaban como un talento. Y maldecían a Dios por esa terrible plaga.
