Psalm 135
1Praise the Lord.
Praise the name of the Lord.
You who serve the Lord, praise him.
2You who serve in the house of the Lord, praise him.
You who serve in the courtyards of the temple of our God, praise him.
3Praise the Lord, because he is good.
Sing praise to his name, because that is pleasant.
4The Lord has chosen the people of Jacob to be his own.
He has chosen Israel to be his special treasure.
5I know that the Lord is great.
I know that our Lord is greater than all gods.
6The Lord does anything he wants to do
in the heavens and on the earth.
He does it even in the deepest parts of the oceans.
7He makes clouds rise from one end of the earth to the other.
He sends lightning with the rain.
He brings the wind out of his storerooms.
8He killed the oldest son of each family in Egypt.
He struck down the oldest males that were born to people and animals.
9He did miraculous signs in Egypt.
He did wonders against Pharaoh and everyone who served him.
10He destroyed many nations.
He killed mighty kings.
11He killed Sihon, the king of the Amorites,
and Og, the king of Bashan.
He killed all the kings of Canaan.
12He gave their land as a gift
to his people Israel.
13Lord, your name continues forever.
Lord, your fame will last for all time to come.
14When the Lord hands down his sentence, it will be in his people’s favor.
He will show deep concern for those who serve him.
15The statues of the nations’ gods are made out of silver and gold.
They are made by human hands.
16They have mouths but can’t speak.
They have eyes but can’t see.
17They have ears but can’t hear.
They have mouths but can’t breathe.
18Those who make statues of gods will be like them.
So will all those who trust in them.
19People of Israel, praise the Lord.
Priests of Aaron, praise the Lord.
20Tribe of Levi, praise the Lord.
You who have respect for the Lord, praise him.
21Give praise to the Lord in Zion.
Give praise to the God who lives in Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord.

2U bent immers voortdurend in het huis van de Here
of in de voorhof van het huis van mijn God?
3Prijs de Here!
De Here is een goede God.
Zing lofliederen voor zijn naam,
zijn naam is de liefde zelf.
4De Here heeft Jakob uitgekozen
en het volk Israël is van Hem.
5Zeker, ik weet dat de Here een grote God is,
dat onze God de Allerhoogste God is.
6In de hemel en op aarde, in de diepten van de zee,
overal doet de Here wat Hem goeddunkt.
7Hij laat ver weg op aarde de damp opstijgen.
Hij voegt de bliksem bij de regen
en stuurt de wind er op uit vanuit zijn schatkamers.
8Hij doodde elke eerstgeborene in Egypte,
zowel bij de mensen als bij de dieren.
9Hij deed al die tekenen en wonderen in Egypte
voor de farao en zijn dienaren.
10Hij versloeg grote menigten tegenstanders
en doodde machtige koningen,
11zoals koning Sichon van de Amorieten en koning Og van Basan.
Hij veroverde alle koninkrijken in het land Kanaän.
12Hun land gaf God aan zijn volk Israël.
13Here, uw naam blijft tot in eeuwigheid bestaan
en alle generaties zullen aan U denken.
14De Here is rechtvaardig voor zijn volk,
met liefde zorgt Hij voor zijn dienaren.
15De andere volken maakten eigenhandig
hun gouden en zilveren afgodsbeelden.
16Al hebben die een mond,
zij kunnen niets zeggen.
Zij hebben ogen,
maar zien niets.
17Zij hebben oren,
maar die kunnen niet horen.
En ademen kunnen zij helemaal niet.
18De mensen die die beelden hebben gemaakt
en ieder die op die beelden vertrouwt,
zullen net als die beelden worden: dood.
19Laat het hele volk Israël de Here prijzen.
Laat het nageslacht van Aäron de Here prijzen.
20Laat het nageslacht van Levi de Here prijzen.
Laat ieder die ontzag heeft voor de Here, Hem prijzen.
21Laat de Here worden geprezen in Jeruzalem.
Want Hij woont in Jeruzalem.
