Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King
1As they all approached Jerusalem, they came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent out two of his disciples. 2He said to them, “Go to the village ahead of you. Just as you enter it, you will find a donkey’s colt tied there. No one has ever ridden it. Untie it and bring it here. 3Someone may ask you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ If so, say, ‘The Lord needs it. But he will send it back here soon.’ ”
4So they left. They found a colt out in the street. It was tied at a doorway. They untied it. 5Some people standing there asked, “What are you doing? Why are you untying that colt?” 6They answered as Jesus had told them to. So the people let them go. 7They brought the colt to Jesus. They threw their coats over it. Then he sat on it. 8Many people spread their coats on the road. Others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9Those in front and those in back shouted,
“Hosanna!”
“Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Psalm 118:25,26)
10“Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
11Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courtyard. He looked around at everything. But it was already late. So he went out to Bethany with the 12 disciples.
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree and Clears Out the Temple Courtyard
12The next day as Jesus and his disciples were leaving Bethany, they were hungry. 13Not too far away, he saw a fig tree. It was covered with leaves. He went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves. It was not the season for figs. 14Then Jesus said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And his disciples heard him say it.
15When Jesus reached Jerusalem, he entered the temple courtyard. He began to drive out those who were buying and selling there. He turned over the tables of the people who were exchanging money. He also turned over the benches of those who were selling doves. 16He would not allow anyone to carry items for sale through the temple courtyard. 17Then he taught them. He told them, “It is written that the Lord said, ‘My house will be called a house where people from all nations can pray.’ (Isaiah 56:7) But you have made it a ‘den for robbers.’ ” (Jeremiah 7:11)
18The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard about this. They began looking for a way to kill Jesus. They were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
19When evening came, Jesus and his disciples left the city.
The Dried-Up Fig Tree
20In the morning as Jesus and his disciples walked along, they saw the fig tree. It was dried up all the way down to the roots. 21Peter remembered. He said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you put a curse on has dried up!”
22“Have faith in God,” Jesus said. 23“What I’m about to tell you is true. Suppose someone says to this mountain, ‘Go and throw yourself into the sea.’ They must not doubt in their heart. They must believe that what they say will happen. Then it will be done for them. 24So I tell you, when you pray for something, believe that you have already received it. Then it will be yours. 25-26And when you stand praying, forgive anyone you have anything against. Then your Father in heaven will forgive your sins.”
The Authority of Jesus Is Questioned
27Jesus and his disciples arrived again in Jerusalem. He was walking in the temple courtyard. Then the chief priests came to him. The teachers of the law and the elders came too. 28“By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “Who gave you authority to do this?”
29Jesus replied, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 30Was John’s baptism from heaven? Or did it come from human authority? Tell me!”
31They talked to each other about it. They said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 32But what if we say, ‘From human authority’?” They were afraid of the people. Everyone believed that John really was a prophet.
33So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”
Jesus said, “Then I won’t tell you by what authority I am doing these things either.”
예루살렘 도착
1그들이 예루살렘에 가까운 감람산 기슭, 벳바게와 베다니에 이르렀을 때 예수님은 두 제자를 보내며
2이렇게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 맞은편 마을로 들어가거라. 거기에 가면 아무도 타 본 적이 없는 나귀 새끼 한 마리가 매여 있을 것이다. 그것을 풀어서 끌고 오너라.
3누가 너희에게 왜 그러느냐고 묻거든 주님이 쓰신다고 하여라. 그러면 곧 보내 줄 것이다.”
4그래서 그들이 가서 문 밖 길거리에 나귀 새끼가 매여 있는 것을 보고 풀자
5거기 섰던 사람들이 “무슨 일이오? 왜 나귀를 푸시오?” 하고 물었다.
6제자들이 예수님께서 일러 주신 대로 대답하자 그들이 허락하였다.
7제자들은 나귀 새끼를 예수님께 끌고 와서 자기들의 겉옷을 그 위에 걸쳐 두었다. 예수님이 나귀에 올라타시자
8많은 사람들이 겉옷을 벗어 길에 펴기도 하고 들에서 푸른 나뭇가지를 꺾어다 길에 깔기도 하였다.
9그리고 예수님을 앞뒤로 에워싸고 가는 군중들은 “11:9 ‘구원하소서’ 라는 의미로 여기서는 찬양의 외침이다.호산나! 주의 이름으로 오시는 분에게 찬양을!
10앞으로 올 우리 조상 다윗의 나라여, 가장 높은 곳에서 호산나!” 하고 환호성을 올렸다.
11그 길로 예루살렘에 도착하신 예수님은 성전에 들어가 모든 것을 둘러보시고 이미 날이 저물었으므로 열두 제자와 함께 베다니로 나가셨다.
12이튿날 그들이 베다니를 떠날 때 예수님은 시장하셨다.
13약간 떨어진 곳에 마침 잎이 무성한 무화과나무 한 그루가 있는 것을 보시고 예수님은 혹시 열매가 있는지 보려고 가셨으나 아직 무화과 철이 아니어서 잎사귀뿐이었다.
14그래서 예수님은 그 나무를 향해 “사람이 네게서 다시는 열매를 따먹지 못할 것이다” 하고 말씀하셨다. 그리고 제자들도 예수님이 그렇게 말씀하시는 소리를 들었다.
15예루살렘에 이르시자 예수님은 성전에 들어가 거기서 매매하는 사람들을 다 쫓아내시고 돈 바꿔 주는 사람들의 상과 비둘기 파는 사람들의 의자를 둘러엎으셨다.
16그리고 예수님은 아무도 물건을 가지고 성전 안으로 지나다니지 못하게 하시고
17그들에게 “11:17 사56:7‘내 성전은 모든 민족의 기도하는 집이다’ 라고 성경에 쓰여 있는데 너희는 이 집을 강도의 소굴로 만들었다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
18대제사장들과 율법학자들은 이 말을 듣고 예수님을 죽일 방법을 의논하였다. 이것은 모든 사람들이 예수님의 가르치심에 놀라므로 그들이 예수님을 두려워했기 때문이었다.
19날이 저물자 예수님의 일행은 다시 성 밖으로 나갔다.
20다음날 아침 그들은 길을 가다가 예수님이 저주한 무화과나무가 뿌리째 마른 것을 보았다.
21이때 베드로가 예수님의 말씀이 생각나서 “선생님, 저것 좀 보십시오. 어제 저주하신 무화과나무가 말라 버렸습니다” 하자
22예수님이 제자들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “하나님을 믿어라.
23내가 분명히 말하지만 누구든지 이 산을 향해 ‘땅에서 들려 바다에 빠져라’ 하며 마음속으로 의심하지 않고 자기가 말하는 것이 반드시 이루어질 것이라고 믿으면 그대로 될 것이다.
24그러므로 내가 너희에게 말한다. 너희가 기도하고 구하는 것은 무엇이든지 받은 줄로 믿어라. 그러면 그대로 될 것이다.
25너희가 서서 기도할 때 어떤 사람과 서로 마음 상한 일이 있거든 용서해 주어라. 그러면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서도 너희 잘못을 용서해 주실 것이다.

27그들은 다시 예루살렘에 들어갔다. 예수님이 성전 뜰을 거니실 때 대제사장들과 율법학자들과 장로들이 와서
28“당신은 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하고 있소? 누가 당신에게 이런 권한을 주었소?” 하고 따져 물었다.
29그때 예수님이 대답하셨다. “나도 한 가지 묻겠는데 너희가 대답하면 내가 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하는지 말하겠다.
30요한의 11:30 또는 ‘침례’세례가 11:30 원문에는 ‘하늘에서’하나님에게서 왔느냐, 아니면 사람에게서 왔느냐? 말해 보아라.”
31그러자 그들은 “만일 하나님에게서 왔다고 하면 ‘왜 그를 믿지 않았느냐?’ 할 것이고
32그렇다고 사람에게서 왔다고 하자니 모든 사람들이 요한을 예언자로 여기고 있으므로 백성들이 두렵다” 하고 서로 의논하다가
33“우리는 모르겠소” 하고 대답하였다. 그래서 예수님은 그들에게 “나도 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하는지 말하지 않겠다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
