Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath Day
1One Sabbath day Jesus was walking through the grainfields. His disciples began to break off some heads of grain. They rubbed them in their hands and ate them. 2Some of the Pharisees said, “It is against the Law to do this on the Sabbath day. Why are you doing it?”
3Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you ever read about what David did? He and his men were hungry. 4He entered the house of God and took the holy bread. He ate the bread that only priests were allowed to eat. David also gave some to his men.” 5Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day.”
6On another Sabbath day, Jesus went into the synagogue and was teaching. A man whose right hand was weak and twisted was there. 7The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were trying to find fault with Jesus. So they watched him closely. They wanted to see if he would heal on the Sabbath day. 8But Jesus knew what they were thinking. He spoke to the man who had the weak and twisted hand. “Get up and stand in front of everyone,” he said. So the man got up and stood there.
9Then Jesus said to them, “What does the Law say we should do on the Sabbath day? Should we do good? Or should we do evil? Should we save life? Or should we destroy it?”
10He looked around at all of them. Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did, and his hand had been made as good as new. 11But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were very angry. They began to talk to one another about what they might do to Jesus.
Jesus Chooses the Twelve Apostles
12On one of those days, Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray. He spent the night praying to God. 13When morning came, he called for his disciples to come to him. He chose 12 of them and made them apostles. Here are their names.

and Judas Iscariot who would later hand Jesus over to his enemies
Jesus Gives Blessings and Warnings
17Jesus went down the mountain with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there. A large number of other people were there too. They came from all over Judea, including Jerusalem. They also came from the coastland around Tyre and Sidon. 18They had all come to hear Jesus and to be healed of their sicknesses. People who were troubled by evil spirits were made well. 19Everyone tried to touch Jesus. Power was coming from him and healing them all.
20Jesus looked at his disciples. He said to them,
“Blessed are you who are needy.
God’s kingdom belongs to you.
21Blessed are you who are hungry now.
You will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are sad now.
You will laugh.
22Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they have nothing to do with you
and say bad things about you,
and when they treat your name as something evil.
They do all this because you are followers of the Son of Man.
23“The prophets of long ago were treated the same way. When these things happen to you, be glad and jump for joy. You will receive many blessings in heaven.
24“But how terrible it will be for you who are rich!
You have already had your easy life.
25How terrible for you who are well fed now!
You will go hungry.
How terrible for you who laugh now!
You will cry and be sad.
26How terrible for you when everyone says good things about you!
Their people treated the false prophets the same way long ago.
Love Your Enemies
27“But here is what I tell you who are listening. Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. 28Bless those who call down curses on you. And pray for those who treat you badly. 29Suppose someone slaps you on one cheek. Let them slap you on the other cheek as well. Suppose someone takes your coat. Don’t stop them from taking your shirt as well. 30Give to everyone who asks you. And if anyone takes what belongs to you, don’t ask to get it back. 31Do to others as you want them to do to you.
32“Suppose you love those who love you. Should anyone praise you for that? Even sinners love those who love them. 33And suppose you do good to those who are good to you. Should anyone praise you for that? Even sinners do that. 34And suppose you lend money to those who can pay you back. Should anyone praise you for that? Even a sinner lends to sinners, expecting them to pay everything back. 35But love your enemies. Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then you will receive a lot in return. And you will be children of the Most High God. He is kind to people who are evil and are not thankful. 36So have mercy, just as your Father has mercy.
Be Fair When You Judge Other People
37“If you do not judge other people, then you will not be judged. If you do not find others guilty, then you will not be found guilty. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good amount will be poured into your lap. It will be pressed down, shaken together, and running over. The same amount you give will be measured out to you.”
39Jesus also gave them another example. He asked, “Can a blind person lead another blind person? Won’t they both fall into a pit? 40The student is not better than the teacher. But everyone who is completely trained will be like their teacher.
41“You look at the bit of sawdust in your friend’s eye. But you pay no attention to the piece of wood in your own eye. 42How can you say to your friend, ‘Let me take the bit of sawdust out of your eye’? How can you say this while there is a piece of wood in your own eye? You pretender! First take the piece of wood out of your own eye. Then you will be able to see clearly to take the bit of sawdust out of your friend’s eye.
A Tree and Its Fruit
43“A good tree doesn’t bear bad fruit. And a bad tree doesn’t bear good fruit. 44You can tell each tree by the kind of fruit it bears. People do not pick figs from thorns. And they don’t pick grapes from bushes. 45A good man says good things. These come from the good that is stored up in his heart. An evil man says evil things. These come from the evil that is stored up in his heart. A person’s mouth says everything that is in their heart.
The Wise and Foolish Builders
46“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and still don’t do what I say? 47Some people come and listen to me and do what I say. I will show you what they are like. 48They are like a man who builds a house. He digs down deep and sets it on solid rock. When a flood comes, the river rushes against the house. But the water can’t shake it. The house is well built. 49But here is what happens when people listen to my words and do not obey them. They are like a man who builds a house on soft ground instead of solid rock. The moment the river rushes against that house, it falls down. It is completely destroyed.”
Ang Pangutana bahin sa Adlaw nga Igpapahulay

Gipakaon usab niya ang iyang mga kauban. Wala sila makasala bisan supak sa Kasugoan ang pagkaon niadto gawas lang sa mga pari.” 5Miingon pa gayod si Jesus kanila, “Ako nga Anak sa Tawo may gahom sa pagsulti kon unsa ang angay nga himuon sa Adlaw nga Igpapahulay.”
Ang Tawo nga Singkaw ug Kamot
(Mat. 12:9-14; Mar. 3:1-6)
6Sa lain na usab nga Adlaw nga Igpapahulay misulod si Jesus sa simbahan sa mga Judio aron sa pagpanudlo. Unya miingon siya sa tawo nga singkaw ug kamot, “Ituy-od ang imong kamot.” Gituy-od niya, ug naayo kini. 11Apan nasuko pag-ayo ang mga magtutudlo sa Kasugoan ug ang mga Pariseo, busa gihisgotan nila kon unsay ilang himuon kang Jesus.
Gipili ni Jesus ang 12 ka mga Apostoles
(Mat. 10:1-4; Mar. 3:13-19)

Ang Bulahan ug ang Alaot
(Mat. 5:1-12)
20Unya mitan-aw si Jesus sa iyang mga tinun-an ug miingon:
“Bulahan kamong mga kabos,
kay sakop kamo sa paghari sa Dios.
21Bulahan kamong gigutom karon, kay muabot ang panahon nga dili na gayod kamo gutomon.
Bulahan kamo nga naghilak karon,
kay mangatawa ra unya kamo.
22Bulahan kamo kon tungod sa inyong pagsunod kanako nga Anak sa Tawo dumtan kamo sa mga tawo, isalikway, biay-biayon, ug daoton ang inyong ngalan.
23Mao usab kana ang gihimo sa ilang mga katigulangan ngadto sa mga propeta kaniadto. Busa kon himuon nila kana kaninyo, magmalipayon gayod kamo tungod kay madawat ninyo ang dakong ganti sa langit.
24Apan alaot kamong mga adunahan,
tungod kay naangkon na ninyo ang inyong kalipay.
25Alaot kamong mga busog karon,
tungod kay muabot ang adlaw nga gutomon kamo.
Alaot kamo nga nagkatawa karon,
tungod kay muabot ang adlaw nga maguol kamo ug maghilak.
26Alaot usab kamo kon gidayeg kamo sa tanan, tungod kay gihimo usab kini sa ilang mga katigulangan ngadto sa mga mini nga propeta.”
Higugmaa Ninyo ang Inyong mga Kaaway
(Mat. 5:38-48; 7:12a)
27“Apan kamo nga naminaw kanako, sultihan ko kamo: Higugmaa ninyo ang inyong mga kaaway ug buhata ang maayo sa mga nagadumot kaninyo. 28Panalangini ang mga nanghimaraot kaninyo, ug iampo ang nagpasipala kaninyo. 29Kon may mosagpa sa imong usa ka aping, ipasagpa usab ang pikas. Kon may mokuha sa imong kupo, ihatag. Ug kon kuhaon pa hasta ang imong kamisita, ihatag usab. 30Hatagi si bisan kinsa nga mangayo, ug kon may mokuha sa imong mga butang ayaw na kini bawia. 31Buhata sa uban ang buot ninyo nga buhaton nila diha kaninyo.
32“Kon ang nahigugma kaninyo mao lang ang inyong higugmaon, makadawat ba kamo ug balos gikan sa Dios? Dili gayod. Tungod kay bisan pa gani ang mga makasasala nahigugma usab sa mga nahigugma kanila. 33Ug kon ang mga tawo nga maayo kaninyo mao lang ang inyong buhatan ug maayo, makadawat ba kamo ug balos gikan sa Dios? Bisan ang mga makasasala nagahimo usab niini. 34Kon magpahulam kamo sa mga tawo nga nahibaloan ninyo nga makabayad, makadawat ba kamo ug balos gikan sa Dios? Bisan ang mga makasasala nagapahulam usab ngadto sa sama nilang makasasala basta nahibaloan nila nga makabayad sila. 35Mao kini ang inyong buhaton: Higugmaa ninyo ang inyong mga kaaway ug buhata ang maayo ngadto kanila. Kon magpahulam kamo, ayaw na pagpaabot nga bayran pa kamo. Kon mao kini ang inyong himuon, madawat ninyo ang dako nga balos ug mahimo kamong mga anak sa Dios nga Labaw sa Tanan. Tungod kay maayo gayod siya bisan sa mga tawo nga daotan ug walay igabalos. 36Magmaluloy-on kamo sama sa inyong Dios nga Amahan.”
Ayaw Ninyo Hukmi ang Uban
(Mat. 7:1-5)
37“Ayaw ninyo hukmi ang uban aron dili usab kamo hukman sa Dios. Ayaw kamo pag-ingon nga kinahanglan silang silotan, aron dili usab kamo silotan sa Dios. Pasayloa ninyo ang mga nakasala kaninyo aron pasayloon usab kamo sa Dios. 38Panghatag kamo aron hatagan usab kamo sa Dios. Kon maghatag kaninyo ang Dios, madagayaon gayod, daw sama nga giuyog niya ang taksanan, gidasok, ug gipaawas pa niya sa dili pa ibubo sa inyong sudlanan. Kay kon unsa kadako ang inyong ihatag sa uban mao usab kana ang ihatag sa Dios kaninyo.”
39Pagkahuman niadto gisultihan sila ni Jesus niini nga panultihon, “Walay buta nga makahimo sa paggiya sa laing buta, tungod kay mangahulog silang duha sa bangag. 40Walay tinun-an nga labaw pa sa iyang magtutudlo, apan kon natudloan siyag maayo ug nakahuman sa iyang pagtuon, mahisama usab siya sa iyang magtutudlo.
41“Nganong tan-awon man nimo pag-ayo ang gamay nga puling sa imong isigka-tawo, apan wala nimo tagda ang imong puling nga sama kadako sa troso? 42Unsaon mo pag-ingon kaniya, ‘Kuhaon ko ang imong puling,’ nga ikaw gani wala man makakita sa imong puling nga morag troso kadako? Tigpakaaron-ingnon! Kuhaa una ang imong puling nga morag troso kadako, aron makakita ka pag-ayo sa imong pagkuha sa gamay nga puling sa imong isigka-tawo.”
Ang Kahoy Maila Pinaagi sa Iyang Bunga
(Mat. 7:16-20; 12:33-35)
43“Ang maayo nga kahoy dili mamunga ug daot, ug ang daot nga kahoy dili mamunga ug maayo. 44Ang tagsa-tagsa ka kahoy mailhan mo pinaagi sa iyang bunga. Walay mapupo nga bunga sa igos o bunga sa ubas gikan sa tunokon nga mga tanom. 45Ang tawo sama niana. Ang maayo nga tawo mosulti ug maayo, tungod kay maayo man ang iyang kasingkasing. Apan ang tawo nga daotan mosulti ug daotan tungod kay daotan man ang iyang kasingkasing. Kon unsa ang anaa sa kasingkasing sa tawo mao usab kini ang mogawas sa iyang baba.
Ang Sambingay bahin sa Duha ka Tawo nga Nagpatukod ug Balay
(Mat. 7:24-27)
46“Nganong nagatawag kamo kanako ug ‘Ginoo’ nga wala man kamo nagatuman sa gisulti ko kaninyo? 47Ipakita ko kaninyo kon unsa ang tawo nga nagaduol kanako, nagapaminaw ug nagatuman sa akong gisulti. 48Sama siya sa usa ka tawo nga nagkalot ug lawom ug nagtukod ug balay diha sa pundasyon nga bato. Mibaha ang suba, miawas ang tubig ug midasmag sa maong balay, apan wala matarog ang balay tungod kay lig-on ang iyang pundasyon. 49Apan ang tawo nga naminaw sa akong gisulti ug wala motuman niini, nahisama sa tawo nga nagtukod ug balay nga walay lig-on nga pundasyon. Pagbaha sa suba, midasmag ang tubig sa balay. Natumba kini ug nabungkag.”
