A Warning to Rich People
1You rich people, listen to me. Cry and weep, because you will soon be suffering. 2Your riches have rotted. Moths have eaten your clothes. 3Your gold and silver have lost their brightness. Their dullness will be a witness against you. Your wanting more and more will eat your body like fire. You have stored up riches in these last days. 4You have even failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields. Their pay is crying out against you. The cries of those who gathered the harvest have reached the ears of the Lord. He rules over all. 5You have lived an easy life on earth. You have given yourselves everything you wanted. You have made yourselves fat like cattle that will soon be butchered. 6You have judged and murdered people who aren’t guilty. And they weren’t even opposing you.
Be Patient When You Suffer
7Brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord comes. See how the farmer waits for the land to produce its rich crop. See how patient the farmer is for the fall and spring rains. 8You too must be patient. You must remain strong. The Lord will soon come back. 9Brothers and sisters, don’t find fault with one another. If you do, you will be judged. And the Judge is standing at the door!
10Brothers and sisters, think about the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. They are an example of how to be patient when you suffer. 11As you know, we think that people who don’t give up are blessed. You have heard that Job was patient. And you have seen what the Lord finally did for him. The Lord is full of tender mercy and loving concern.
12My brothers and sisters, here is what is most important. Don’t make a promise by giving your word. Don’t promise by heaven or earth. And don’t promise by anything else to back up what you say. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” If you do more than this, you will be judged.
The Prayer of Faith
13Is anyone among you in trouble? Then that person should pray. Is anyone among you happy? Then that person should sing songs of praise. 14Is anyone among you sick? Then that person should send for the elders of the church to pray over them. They should ask the elders to anoint them with olive oil in the name of the Lord. 15The prayer offered by those who have faith will make the sick person well. The Lord will heal them. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16So confess your sins to one another. Pray for one another so that you might be healed. The prayer of a godly person is powerful. Things happen because of it.
17Elijah was a human being, just as we are. He prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain. And it didn’t rain on the land for three and a half years. 18Then he prayed again. That time it rained. And the earth produced its crops.
19My brothers and sisters, suppose one of you wanders away from the truth. And suppose someone brings that person back. 20Then here is what I want you to remember. Anyone who keeps a sinner from going astray will save them from death. God will erase many sins by forgiving them.
Ang Pahimangno alang sa mga Adunahan
1Kamo nga mga adunahan, paminaw kamo! Panghilak kamo sa hilabihan tungod sa mga kalisod nga modangat kaninyo. 2Mangadunot ang inyong bahandi ug pangutkuton sa gagmayng mananap ang inyong bisti. 3Gipangtagoan lang ninyo ang inyong kuwarta, busa gipangtaya ug dili mapuslan. Sa kaulahiang mga adlaw silotan kamo didto sa impiyerno tungod sa inyong kahakog sa kuwarta nga wala ninyo gamita sa kaayohan. Kaanugon lang sa inyong pagtigom kay ang kalibotan hapit na gayod matapos. 4Pamatia ninyo ang mga reklamo sa mga tawo nga inyong gipatrabaho sa inyong kaumahan apan wala ninyo suholi. Angay ninyong masayran nga ang mga paghilak sa inyong mga mag-aani nadunggan sa Dios nga Makagagahom. 5Nagpatuyang kamo sa inyong kinabuhi dinhi sa kalibotan. Sama lang nga gipatambok ninyo ang inyong kaugalingon ug gitagana alang sa adlaw sa pag-ihaw. 6Gihukman ninyo ug gipamatay ang mga tawo nga walay sala, bisan wala sila makasukol kaninyo.
Ang Pagpailob ug Pag-ampo
7Mga igsoon, pagmapailubon kamo hangtod sa pag-abot sa Ginoo. Tan-awa ninyo ang mga mag-uuma, mapailubon sila nga naghulat sa unang ulan. Pagkahuman nila ug tanom, mapailubon gihapon sila sa paghulat sa mosunod nga ulan ug sa ilang abot. 8Busa pagmapailubon usab kamo. Ayaw kamo pagpakawala sa paglaom, kay hapit na gayod moabot ang Ginoo.
9Mga igsoon, ayaw kamo pagbinasolay, aron dili kamo silotan sa Dios. Ang magahukom kanato hapit na gayod moabot. 10Buhata ninyo nga panig-ingnan ang pagpailob sa mga propeta nga gisugo sa Dios nga mosulti alang kaniya. 11Dili ba nga giisip man nato nga bulahan ang mga tawo nga nagaantos? Nadunggan ninyo ang mahitungod sa mga pag-antos ni Job, ug nasayran usab ninyo kon giunsa siya pagtabang sa Dios sa kaulahian. Kay ang Ginoo maayo ug maluloy-on.
12Mga igsoon, labaw sa tanan ayaw gayod kamo panumpa nga mag-ingon, “Saksi ang langit,” o “Saksi ang yuta,” o ang uban pa nga mga butang. Ingna lang nga “oo” kon tinuod gayod nga uyon kamo, ug “dili” kon tinuod nga dili kamo uyon, aron dili kamo silotan sa Dios.
13Kon may nagaantos diha kaninyo kinahanglan mag-ampo siya sa Dios. Kon may malipayon, pakantaha siya ug mga pagdayeg ngadto sa Dios. 14Kon may magsakit kaninyo, magtawag siya sa mga kadagkoan sa iglesia aron mag-ampo sila alang kaniya ug dihogan siya ug lana sa ngalan sa Ginoo. 15Ang pag-ampo nga may pagtuo sa Ginoo mao ang makaayo sa nagsakit. Pabangonon siya sa Ginoo ug pasayloon sa iyang mga sala kon nakasala siya. 16Pagsuginlanay kamo sa inyong mga sala ug pag-inampoay aron mangaayo kamo. Kay dako ang mahimo sa pag-ampo sa tawo nga matarong, 17sama kang Elias nga propeta. Siya tawo usab nga sama kanato. Kinasingkasing siyang nagaampo nga dili moulan, ug wala moulan sulod sa tulo ka tuig ug tunga. 18Pagkahuman niadto nagaampo na usab siya nga moulan, ug natuman kini. Unya midaghan ang ani sa yuta.
19Mga igsoon ko, kon may usa kaninyo nga nagpalayo sa kamatuoran, ug may usa usab kaninyo nga mopabalik kaniya, 20angay ninyong masayran nga ang magpabalik sa makasasala gikan sa iyang daotan nga paggawi maoy magluwas sa kalag niadtong makasasala gikan sa silot nga kamatayon, ug mapasaylo ang daghang mga sala.
