1I, James, am writing this letter. I serve God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I am sending this letter to you, the 12 tribes scattered among the nations.
Greetings.
Facing All Kinds of Trouble
2My brothers and sisters, you will face all kinds of trouble. When you do, think of it as pure joy. 3Your faith will be tested. You know that when this happens it will produce in you the strength to continue. 4And you must allow this strength to finish its work. Then you will be all you should be. You will have everything you need. 5If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault. 6But when you ask, you must believe. You must not doubt. That’s because a person who doubts is like a wave of the sea. The wind blows and tosses them around. 7They shouldn’t expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8This kind of person can’t make up their mind. They can never decide what to do.
9Here’s what believers who are in low positions in life should be proud of. They should be proud that God has given them a high position in the kingdom. 10But rich people should take pride in their low positions. That’s because they will fade away like wild flowers. 11The sun rises. Its burning heat dries up the plants. Their blossoms fall. Their beauty is destroyed. In the same way, rich people will fade away. They fade away even as they go about their business.
12Blessed is the person who keeps on going when times are hard. After they have come through hard times, this person will receive a crown. The crown is life itself. The Lord has promised it to those who love him.
13When a person is tempted, they shouldn’t say, “God is tempting me.” God can’t be tempted by evil. And he doesn’t tempt anyone. 14But each person is tempted by their own evil desires. These desires lead them on and drag them away. 15When these desires are allowed to remain, they lead to sin. And when sin is allowed to remain and grow, it leads to death.
16My dear brothers and sisters, don’t let anyone fool you. 17Every good and perfect gift is from God. This kind of gift comes down from the Father who created the heavenly lights. These lights create shadows that move. But the Father does not change like these shadows. 18God chose to give us new birth through the message of truth. He wanted us to be the first harvest of his new creation.
Listen to the Word and Do What It Says
19My dear brothers and sisters, pay attention to what I say. Everyone should be quick to listen. But they should be slow to speak. They should be slow to get angry. 20Human anger doesn’t produce the holy life God wants. 21So get rid of everything that is sinful. Get rid of the evil that is all around us. Don’t be too proud to accept the word that is planted in you. It can save you.
22Don’t just listen to the word. You fool yourselves if you do that. You must do what it says. 23Suppose someone listens to the word but doesn’t do what it says. Then they are like a person who looks at their face in a mirror. 24After looking at themselves, they leave. And right away they forget what they look like. 25But suppose someone takes a good look at the perfect law that gives freedom. And they keep looking at it. Suppose they don’t forget what they’ve heard, but they do what the law says. Then this person will be blessed in what they do.
26Suppose people think their beliefs and how they live are both right. But they don’t control what they say. Then they are fooling themselves. Their beliefs and way of life are not worth anything at all. 27Here are the beliefs and way of life that God our Father accepts as pure and without fault. When widows are in trouble, take care of them. Do the same for children who have no parents. And don’t let the world make you impure.
سلام و درود از يعقوب
1در يعقوب، خدمتگزار خدا و عيسی مسيح خداوند، به مسيحيان يهودی‌نژاد كه در سراسر جهان پراكنده‌اند، سلام و درود می‌فرستد.
شادی در سختیها
2برادران عزيز، وقتی مشكلات و آزمايشهای سخت از هر سو بر شما هجوم می‌آورند، بسيار شاد باشيد، 3زيرا در آزمايش و سختیهاست كه صبر و تحملتان بيشتر می‌شود. 4پس بگذاريد صبرتان فزونی يابد و نكوشيد از زير بار مشكلات شانه خالی كنيد، زيرا وقتی صبرتان به حد كمال رسيد، افرادی كامل و بالغ خواهيد شد و به هيچ چيز نياز نخواهيد داشت. 5اما اگر كسی از شما طالب حكمت و فهم برای درک اراده و خواست خداست، بايد دعا كند و آن را از خدا بخواهد؛ زيرا خدا خرد و حكمت را به هر كه از او درخواست كند، سخاوتمندانه عطا می‌فرمايد بدون اينكه او را سرزنش نمايد. 6اما وقتی از او درخواست می‌كنيد، شک به خود راه ندهيد، بلكه يقين داشته باشيد كه خدا جواب دعايتان را خواهد داد؛ زيرا كسی كه شک می‌كند، مانند موجی است در دريا كه در اثر وزش باد به اين سو و آن سو رانده می‌شود. 7-8چنين شخصی، هرگز نمی‌تواند تصميم قاطعی بگيرد. پس اگر با ايمان دعا نكنيد، انتظار پاسخ نيز از خدا نداشته باشيد.
9مسيحيانی كه از مال اين دنيا بی‌بهره هستند، نبايد خود را حقير پندارند، بلكه بايد شاد باشند زيرا در نظر خدا بزرگ و سربلند هستند. 10-11مسيحيان ثروتمند نيز نبايد خود را بزرگ بدانند، بلكه بايد شاد باشند كه ثروت اين دنيا، گنج واقعی آنان نيست، زيرا ثروت اين دنيا مانند گُلی است كه بعد از مدتی، در اثر تابش آفتاب سوزان، زيبايی خود را از دست می‌دهد و پژمرده می‌شود. بلی، شخص ثروتمند نيز چنين است؛ پس از اندک زمانی می‌ميرد و هر آنچه انجام داده، بی‌ثمر می‌ماند.
12خوشا به حال كسی كه آزمايشهای سخت زندگی را متحمل می‌شود، زيرا وقتی از اين آزمايشها سربلند بيرون آمد، خداوند تاج حيات را به او عطا خواهد فرمود، تاجی كه به تمام دوستداران خود وعده داده است.
13وقتی كسی وسوسه شده، به سوی گناهی كشيده می‌شود، فكر نكند كه خدا او را وسوسه می‌كند، زيرا خدا از گناه و بدی به دور است و كسی را نيز به انجام آن، وسوسه و ترغيب نمی‌كند. 14وسوسه يعنی اينكه انسان فريفته و مجذوب افكار و اميال ناپاک خود شود. 15اين افكار و اميال ناپاک، او را به انجام كارهای گناه‌آلود می‌كشاند؛ و اين كارها نيز منجر به مرگ می‌گردند، كه همانا مجازات الهی است. 16پس ای برادران عزيز، در اين مورد اشتباه نكنيد. 17از جانب خدا فقط مواهب نيكو و كامل به ما می‌رسد، زيرا او آفرينندهٔ همهٔ روشنايی‌هاست و خدايی است تغييرناپذير. 18او چنين اراده فرمود كه ما را بوسيلهٔ پيام انجيل، زندگی تازه ببخشد تا ما نخستين فرزندان خانوادهٔ الهی او باشيم.
عمل كردن به كلام خدا
19برادران عزيز، به اين نكته توجه كنيد: بيشتر گوش بدهيد، كمتر سخن بگوييد، و زود خشمگين نشويد. 20زيرا خشم نمی‌گذارد آن طور كه خدا می‌خواهد، خوب و درستكار باشيم.
21بنابراين، هر نوع ناپاكی و عادت زشت را كه هنوز در وجودتان باقی است، از خود دور كنيد؛ و با فروتنی كلام خدا را كه در دلتان كاشته شده است، بپذيريد، زيرا اين كلام قدرت دارد جانهای شما را نجات بخشد. 22اما فراموش نكنيد كه اين كلام را نه فقط بايد شنيد، بلكه بايد به آن عمل كرد. پس خود را فريب ندهيد، 23زيرا كسی كه كلام را فقط می‌شنود ولی به آن عمل نمی‌كند، مانند شخصی است كه صورت خود را در آينه نگاه می‌كند؛ 24اما به محض اينكه از مقابل آينه دور می‌شود، چهرهٔ خود را فراموش می‌كند. 25اما كسی كه به كلام خدا كه قانون كامل آزادی بشر است، توجه داشته باشد، نه تنها آن را هميشه به خاطر خواهد داشت، بلكه به دستوراتش نيز عمل خواهد كرد، و خدا عمل او را بركت خواهد داد.
26هر كه خود را مسيحی می‌داند، اما نمی‌تواند بر زبان تند خود مسلط باشد، خود را گول می‌زند و مذهب او پشيزی ارزش ندارد. 27در نظر خدای پدر، مسيحی پاک و بی‌عيب كسی است كه به كمک يتيمان و بيوه‌زنان می‌شتابد، و نسبت به خداوند وفادار می‌ماند و خود را از آلودگی‌های دنيا دور نگاه می‌دارد.
