A Prophecy Against Egypt and Cush
1Sargon, the king of Assyria, sent his highest commander to the city of Ashdod. He attacked it and captured it. 2Three years earlier the Lord had spoken to Isaiah, the son of Amoz. The Lord had said, “Take off the rough clothing you are wearing. And take off your sandals.” So Isaiah did. He went around barefoot and naked.
3After Ashdod was captured, the Lord said, “My servant Isaiah has gone around barefoot and naked for three years. He is a sign and reminder to Egypt and Cush about what will happen to them. 4The king of Assyria will lead prisoners away from Egypt and Cush. Young people and old people alike will be taken away. Like Isaiah, they will be barefoot and naked. Their backsides will be bare. So the Egyptians will be put to shame. 5People trusted in Cush to help them. They bragged about what Egypt could do for them. But they will lose heart and be put to shame. 6At that time the people who live on the coast of Philistia will speak up. They will say, ‘See what has happened to those we depended on! We ran to them for help. We wanted them to save us from the king of Assyria. Now how can we escape?’ ”
Profeție împotriva Egiptului și a lui Cuș
1În anul în care Tartan1 Sau: comandantul suprem., trimis de împăratul Sargon al Asiriei, a venit la Așdod, l‑a asediat și l‑a cucerit, 2Domnul i‑a vorbit lui Isaia, fiul lui Amoț, zicând: „Du‑te, dă‑ți jos sacul de jale de pe coapse și scoate‑ți sandalele din picioare!“ El a făcut întocmai, umblând gol și desculț.
3Domnul a zis: „Așa cum robul Meu Isaia a umblat gol și desculț timp de trei ani, ca un semn și ca o prevestire împotriva Egiptului și a lui Cuș3 Vezi nota de la 11:11., 4tot așa împăratul Asiriei îi va duce departe pe captivii Egiptului și pe exilații lui Cuș, pe tineri și pe bătrâni, goi și desculți, cu dosul descoperit, spre rușinea Egiptului.4 Lit.: cu dosul descoperit, goliciunea Egiptului. 5Atunci se vor înspăimânta și se vor rușina la vederea5 se vor rușina din cauza. lui Cuș, speranța lor, și a Egiptului, măreția lor. 6În ziua aceea, locuitorii de pe țărmul acesta vor zice: «Iată ce li s‑a întâmplat celor în care ne‑am pus speranța și la care am fugit după ajutor și izbăvire dinaintea împăratului Asiriei! Oare cine ne va mai izbăvi acum?»“
