Jesus Is Greater Than Moses
1Holy brothers and sisters, God chose you to be his people. So keep thinking about Jesus. We embrace him as our apostle and our high priest. 2Moses was faithful in everything he did in the house of God. In the same way, Jesus was faithful to the God who appointed him. 3The person who builds a house has greater honor than the house itself. In the same way, Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses. 4Every house is built by someone. But God is the builder of everything. 5“Moses was faithful as one who serves in the house of God.” (Numbers 12:7) He was a witness to what God would say in days to come. 6But Christ is faithful as the Son over the house of God. And we are his house if we hold tightly to what we are certain about. We must also hold tightly to the hope we boast in.
A Warning Against Unbelief
7The Holy Spirit says,
“Listen to his voice today.
8If you hear it, don’t be stubborn.
You were stubborn when you opposed me.
You did that when you were tested in the desert.
9There your people of long ago tested me.
Yet for 40 years they saw what I did.
10That is why I was angry with them.
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray.
They have not known my ways.’
11So when I was angry, I made a promise.
I said, ‘They will never enjoy the rest I planned for them.’ ” (Psalm 95:7–11)
12Brothers and sisters, make sure that none of you has a sinful heart. Do not let an unbelieving heart turn you away from the living God. 13But build one another up every day. Do it as long as there is still time. Then none of you will become stubborn. You won’t be fooled by sin’s tricks. 14We belong to Christ if we hold tightly to the faith we had at first. But we must hold it tightly until the end. 15It has just been said,
“Listen to his voice today.
If you hear it, don’t be stubborn.
You were stubborn when you opposed me.” (Psalm 95:7,8)
16Who were those who heard and refused to obey? Weren’t they all the people Moses led out of Egypt? 17Who was God angry with for 40 years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned? They died in the desert. 18God promised that those people would never enjoy the rest he planned for them. God gave his word when he made that promise. Didn’t he make that promise to those who didn’t obey? 19So we see that they weren’t able to enter. That’s because they didn’t believe.
Isus, superior lui Moise
1De aceea, frați sfinți, părtași la chemarea cerească, uitați‑vă cu atenție la Isus, Apostolul și Marele Preot al mărturisirii noastre, 2Care a fost credincios Celui Ce L‑a desemnat, așa cum și Moise a fost credincios în toată Casa Lui. 3Căci El a fost găsit vrednic de o slavă mai mare decât a lui Moise, așa cum constructorul unei case are cu mult mai multă cinste decât casa însăși. 4Căci orice casă este construită de cineva, însă Cel Ce le‑a construit pe toate este Dumnezeu. 5Moise, într-adevăr, a fost credincios ca slujitor în toată Casa lui Dumnezeu, fiind o mărturie despre lucrurile care urmau să fie spuse, 6dar Cristos a fost credincios ca Fiu peste Casa lui Dumnezeu. Iar Casa Lui suntem noi, dacă într-adevăr ținem cu tărie încrederea și speranța cu care ne lăudăm.6 Lit.: încrederea și lauda speranței. Unele mss redau: ținem într-adevăr cu tărie până la sfârșit încrederea și lauda speranței.
Avertizare împotriva necredinței
7De aceea, așa cum spune Duhul Sfânt:
„Astăzi, dacă auziți glasul Lui,
8nu vă împietriți inimile,
ca în ziua răzvrătirii,
ca în ziua încercării în pustie,
9unde strămoșii9 Lit.: tații. voștri M‑au pus la încercare,
M‑au ispitit și Mi‑au văzut lucrările
10timp de patruzeci de ani!
De aceea M‑am mâniat pe generația aceasta
și am zis: «Ei întotdeauna se rătăcesc în inima lor.
N‑au cunoscut căile Mele.»
11Așa că am jurat în mânia Mea:
«Nu vor intra în odihna Mea!»“11 Vezi Ps. 95:7-11.
12Fiți atenți, fraților, ca nu cumva vreunul dintre voi să aibă o inimă rea, necredincioasă, care să‑l depărteze de Dumnezeul cel Viu, 13ci îndemnați‑vă unul pe altul în fiecare zi, cât timp se zice „astăzi“, astfel încât niciunul dintre voi să nu se împietrească prin înșelăciunea păcatului. 14Căci am devenit părtași ai lui Cristos dacă într-adevăr ținem cu fermitate până la sfârșit convingerea noastră de la început, 15în timp ce se zice:
„Astăzi, dacă auziți glasul Lui,
nu vă împietriți inimile
ca în ziua răzvrătirii.“15 Vezi Ps. 95:7-8.
16Căci cine au fost cei ce au auzit și s‑au răzvrătit? Nu toți cei ce au ieșit din Egipt prin Moise? 17Și pe cine S‑a mâniat El timp de patruzeci de ani? Nu pe cei care au păcătuit și ale căror trupuri moarte au căzut în pustie? 18Cui a jurat El că nu vor intra în odihna Lui, dacă nu celor care nu au ascultat? 19Vedem așadar că ei n‑au putut să intre din cauza necredinței.
