Jesus Is Greater Than Moses
1Holy brothers and sisters, God chose you to be his people. So keep thinking about Jesus. We embrace him as our apostle and our high priest. 2Moses was faithful in everything he did in the house of God. In the same way, Jesus was faithful to the God who appointed him. 3The person who builds a house has greater honor than the house itself. In the same way, Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses. 4Every house is built by someone. But God is the builder of everything. 5“Moses was faithful as one who serves in the house of God.” (Numbers 12:7) He was a witness to what God would say in days to come. 6But Christ is faithful as the Son over the house of God. And we are his house if we hold tightly to what we are certain about. We must also hold tightly to the hope we boast in.
A Warning Against Unbelief
7The Holy Spirit says,
“Listen to his voice today.
8If you hear it, don’t be stubborn.
You were stubborn when you opposed me.
You did that when you were tested in the desert.
9There your people of long ago tested me.
Yet for 40 years they saw what I did.
10That is why I was angry with them.
I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray.
They have not known my ways.’
11So when I was angry, I made a promise.
I said, ‘They will never enjoy the rest I planned for them.’ ” (Psalm 95:7–11)
12Brothers and sisters, make sure that none of you has a sinful heart. Do not let an unbelieving heart turn you away from the living God. 13But build one another up every day. Do it as long as there is still time. Then none of you will become stubborn. You won’t be fooled by sin’s tricks. 14We belong to Christ if we hold tightly to the faith we had at first. But we must hold it tightly until the end. 15It has just been said,
“Listen to his voice today.
If you hear it, don’t be stubborn.
You were stubborn when you opposed me.” (Psalm 95:7,8)
16Who were those who heard and refused to obey? Weren’t they all the people Moses led out of Egypt? 17Who was God angry with for 40 years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned? They died in the desert. 18God promised that those people would never enjoy the rest he planned for them. God gave his word when he made that promise. Didn’t he make that promise to those who didn’t obey? 19So we see that they weren’t able to enter. That’s because they didn’t believe.
Jesús, superior a Moisés
1Por lo tanto, hermanos, vosotros que habéis sido santificados y que tenéis parte en el mismo llamamiento celestial, considerad a Jesús, apóstol y sumo sacerdote de la fe que profesamos. 2Él fue fiel al que lo nombró, como lo fue también Moisés en toda la casa de Dios. 3De hecho, Jesús ha sido estimado digno de mayor honor que Moisés, así como el constructor de una casa recibe mayor honor que la casa misma. 4Porque toda casa tiene su constructor, pero el constructor de todo es Dios. 5Moisés fue fiel como siervo en toda la casa de Dios, para dar testimonio de lo que Dios diría en el futuro. 6Cristo, en cambio, es fiel como Hijo al frente de la casa de Dios. Y esa casa somos nosotros, con tal que mantengamos3:6 mantengamos. Var. mantengamos firme hasta el fin. nuestra confianza y la esperanza que nos enorgullece.
Advertencia contra la incredulidad
7Por eso, como dice el Espíritu Santo:
«Si oís hoy su voz,
8no endurezcáis el corazón
como sucedió en la rebelión,
en aquel día de prueba en el desierto.
9Allí vuestros antepasados me tentaron y me pusieron a prueba,
a pesar de haber visto mis obras cuarenta años.
10Por eso me enojé con aquella generación,
y dije: “Siempre se descarría su corazón,
y no han reconocido mis caminos”.
11Así que, en mi enojo, hice este juramento:
“Jamás entrarán en mi reposo”».3:11 Sal 95:7-11
12Cuidaos, hermanos, de que ninguno de vosotros tenga un corazón pecaminoso e incrédulo que os haga apartaros del Dios vivo. 13Más bien, mientras dure ese «hoy», animaos unos a otros cada día, para que ninguno de vosotros os endurezcáis por el engaño del pecado. 14Hemos llegado a tener parte con Cristo, con tal que retengamos firme hasta el fin la confianza que tuvimos al principio. 15Como se acaba de decir:
«Si oís hoy su voz,
no endurezcáis el corazón
como sucedió en la rebelión».3:15 Sal 95:7,8
16Ahora bien, ¿quiénes fueron los que oyeron y se rebelaron? ¿No fueron acaso todos los que salieron de Egipto guiados por Moisés? 17¿Y con quiénes se enojó Dios durante cuarenta años? ¿No fue acaso con los que pecaron, los cuales cayeron muertos en el desierto? 18¿Y a quiénes juró Dios que jamás entrarían en su reposo, sino a los que desobedecieron?3:18 los que desobedecieron. Alt. los que no creyeron. 19Como podemos ver, no pudieron entrar por causa de su incredulidad.
