1I will go up to the lookout tower.
I’ll station myself on the city wall.
I’ll wait to see how the Lord will reply to me.
Then I’ll try to figure out how his reply answers what I’ve complained about.
The Lord Replies to Habakkuk
2The Lord replies,
“Write down the message I am giving you.
Write it clearly on the tablets you use.
Then a messenger can read it
and run to announce it.
3The message I give you
waits for the time I have appointed.
It speaks about what is going to happen.
And all of it will come true.
It might take a while.
But wait for it.
You can be sure it will come.
It will happen when I want it to.
4“The Babylonians are very proud.
What they want is not good.
“But the person who is godly
will live by his faithfulness.
5“Wine makes the Babylonians do foolish things.
They are proud. They never rest.
Like the grave, they are always hungry for more.
Like death, they are never satisfied.
They gather all the nations to themselves.
They take all those people away as prisoners.
6“Won’t those people laugh at the Babylonians? Won’t they make fun of them? They will say to them,
“ ‘How terrible it will be for you
who pile up stolen goods!
You get rich by cheating others.
How long will this go on?’
7Those you owe money to will suddenly rise up.
They will wake up
and make you tremble with fear.
Then they will take away
everything you have.
8You have robbed many nations.
So the nations that are left will rob you.
You have spilled human blood.
You have destroyed lands and cities
and everyone in them.
9“How terrible it will be for the Babylonians!
They build their kingdom with money
that they gained by cheating others.
They have tried to make the kingdom
as secure as possible.
After all, they did not want to be destroyed.
10They have planned to wipe out many nations.
But they have brought shame on their own kingdom.
So they must pay with their own lives.
11The stones in the walls of their homes will cry out.
And the wooden beams will echo that cry.
12“How terrible it will be for the Babylonians!
They build cities by spilling the blood of others.
They establish towns by doing what is wrong.
13I am the Lord who rules over all.
Human effort is no better than wood that feeds a fire.
So the nations wear themselves out for nothing.
14The oceans are full of water.
In the same way, the earth will be filled
with the knowledge of my glory.
15“How terrible it will be for the Babylonians!
They give drinks to their neighbors.
They pour the drinks from wineskins
until their neighbors are drunk.
They want to look at their naked bodies.
16But the Babylonians will be filled
with shame instead of glory.
So now it is their turn to drink
and be stripped of their clothes.
The cup of anger in my powerful right hand
is going to punish them.
They will be covered with shame instead of glory.
17The harm they have done to Lebanon
will bring them down.
Because they have killed so many animals,
animals will terrify them.
They have spilled human blood.
They have destroyed lands and cities
and everyone in them.
18“If someone carves a statue of a god, what is it worth?
What value is there in a god
that teaches lies?
The one who trusts in this kind of god
worships his own creation.
He makes statues of gods that can’t speak.
19How terrible it will be for the Babylonians!
They say to a wooden god, ‘Come to life!’
They say to a stone god, ‘Wake up!’
Can those gods give advice?
They are covered with gold and silver.
They can’t even breathe.”
20The Lord is in his holy temple.
Let the whole earth be silent in front of him.
1Voi sta la locul meu de strajă
și mă voi așeza în turnul cetățuii.
Voi veghea ca să văd ce‑mi va spune
și ce voi răspunde când voi fi mustrat.
Răspunsul Domnului
2Domnul mi‑a răspuns și a zis:
– Scrie viziunea
și întipărește‑o clar pe table,
pentru ca un herald să poată alerga cu ea2 Lit.: pentru ca să fugă cel care o citește. Sau: table, / ca să se poată citi ușor!!
3Căci viziunea este încă pentru vremea hotărâtă!
Ea mărturisește despre sfârșit și nu va minți!
Chiar dacă întârzie, așteapt‑o!
Căci sigur va veni; nu va ajunge târziu!
4Iată, s‑a îngâmfat! Nu‑i este drept sufletul în el;
însă cel drept prin credința lui va trăi.4 Sau: însă cel drept va trăi prin credința lui.
5Într-adevăr, vinul îl trădează pe omul semeț și nu stă liniștit.
El își mărește pofta ca Locuința Morților5 Ebr.: Șeol
și este nesățios ca moartea,
atunci când strânge la sine toate neamurile
și adună la sine toate popoarele.
6Oare nu vor face toate acestea,
pe seama lui, un proverb, o satiră și ghicitori? Se va zice:
„Vai de cel ce adună ce nu este al lui
(până când?)
și de cel ce se împovărează cu datorii!
7Oare nu se vor ridica deodată cei ce te‑au împrumutat7 În ideea că Babilonul este acum el însuși dator celor pe care i‑a jefuit; sau cei pe care i‑ai împrumutat.?
Oare nu se vor trezi cei ce te fac să tremuri?
Vei ajunge astfel o pradă pentru ei.
8Fiindcă ai prădat multe neamuri,
toate popoarele care vor rămâne te vor prăda!
Căci ai vărsat sângele oamenilor
și ai săvârșit violență pe pământ,
împotriva cetăților și împotriva tuturor celor ce locuiesc în ele!
9Vai de cel ce strânge câștig nelegiuit pentru casa lui,
ca să‑și așeze apoi cuibul într‑un loc înalt,
ca să scape din mâna nenorocirii!
10Ți‑ai plănuit, de fapt, rușinea casei tale;
retezând o mulțime de popoare,
sufletul tău a păcătuit.10 Sau: tale, / nimicind o mulțime de popoare / și păcătuind în (sau împotriva) sufletul tău.
11Căci piatra din zid va striga,
iar grinda dintre căpriorii casei îi va răspunde!
12Vai de cel ce zidește o cetate cu sânge
și întemeiază un oraș prin nedreptate!
13Iată, să nu fie oare de la Domnul Oștirilor13 Ebr.: YHWH Țebaot. Termenul ebraic pentru oștiri se poate referi: (1) la oștirile lui Israel (Ex. 7:4; Ps. 44:9); (2) la corpurile cerești (Gen. 2:1; Deut. 4:19; Is. 40:26); (3) la îngeri (Ios. 5:14; 1 Regi 22:19; Ps. 148:2). Acest titlu face referire, probabil, la suveranitatea lui Dumnezeu peste orice putere din univers.
faptul că popoarele se trudesc
doar pentru a hrăni focul,
și neamurile se ostenesc pentru nimic?
14Căci pământul va fi umplut de cunoștința slavei Domnului,
așa cum apele acoperă fundul mării.
15Vai de cel ce dă semenului său să bea,
de cel care‑și deșartă burduful până‑l îmbată15 Sau: Vai de tine, care‑i dai semenului tău să bea! / Îi torni mânia ta (sau otrava ta) până‑l îmbeți; sau Vai de tine, care‑i dai semenului tău să bea / din vasul mâniei tale, până‑l îmbeți.,
ca să‑i vadă goliciunea!
16Te vei sătura de rușine, în loc de slavă!
Acum bea și tu și clatină‑te!
Îți va veni și ție rândul să iei cupa din dreapta Domnului
și va veni rușinea și peste slava ta!
17Căci violența față de Liban te va acoperi17 Cf. Is. 14:8, babilonienii au distrus pădurile Libanului, folosind foarte mult lemn de cedru pentru construirea palatelor și a templelor.,
și nimicirea animalelor te va înspăimânta17 Probabil cu referire la expedițiile de vânătoare; ideea care se desprinde este că babilonienii au distrus orice formă de viață.,
din cauza sângelui oamenilor
și a violenței pe pământ,
împotriva cetății și împotriva tuturor celor ce locuiesc în ea!
18La ce folosește un chip cioplit, pe care l‑a cioplit făuritorul,
sau un chip turnat, care învață minciuni?
Făuritorul se încrede în propria lui lucrare,
deși ceea ce a făcut sunt doar niște idoli muți.
19Vai de cel ce zice lemnului: «Trezește‑te!»
sau pietrei mute: «Scoală‑te!»
Poate ea să dea învățătură?
Iată că este acoperită cu aur și argint,
dar nu este nicio suflare în ea!“
20Domnul însă este în Templul Său cel sfânt!
Tot pământul să tacă înaintea Lui!
