A Prophecy Against Ammon
1A message from the Lord came to me. The Lord said, 2“Son of man, turn your attention to the Ammonites. Prophesy against them. 3Tell them, ‘Listen to the message of the Lord and King. He says, “You laughed when my temple was made ‘unclean.’ You also laughed when the land of Israel was completely destroyed. You mocked the people of Judah when they were taken away as prisoners. 4So I am going to hand you over to the people of the east. They will set up their tents in your land. They will camp among you. They will eat your fruit. They will drink your milk. 5I will turn the city of Rabbah into grasslands for camels. Ammon will become a resting place for sheep. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” ’ ” 6The Lord and King says, “You clapped your hands. You stamped your feet. Deep down inside, you hated the land of Israel. You were glad because of what happened to it. 7So I will reach out my powerful hand against you. I will give you and everything you have to the nations. I will bring you to an end among the nations. I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
A Prophecy Against Moab
8The Lord and King says, “Moab and Edom said, ‘Look! Judah has become like all the other nations.’ 9So I will let Moab’s enemies attack its lower hills. They will begin at the border towns. Those towns include Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon and Kiriathaim. They are the glory of that land. 10I will hand Moab over to the people of the east. I will also give the Ammonites to them. And the Ammonites will no longer be remembered among the nations. 11I will punish Moab. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
A Prophecy Against Edom
12The Lord and King says, “Edom got even with Judah. That made Edom very guilty.” 13The Lord continues, “I will reach out my hand against Edom. I will kill its people and their animals. I will completely destroy it. They will be killed by swords from Teman all the way to Dedan. 14I will use my people Israel to pay Edom back. They will punish Edom because my anger against it is great. They will know how I pay back my enemies,” announces the Lord and King.
A Prophecy Against the Philistines
15The Lord and King says, “Deep down inside them, the Philistines hated Judah. So the Philistines tried to get even with them. They had been Judah’s enemies for many years. So they tried to destroy them.” 16The Lord continues, “I am about to reach out my hand against the Philistines. I will wipe out the Kerethites. I will destroy those who remain along the coast. 17You can be sure that I will pay them back. I will punish them because my anger against them is great. When I pay them back, they will know that I am the Lord.”
Profetie tegen de Ammonieten
1Toen ontving ik opnieuw een boodschap van de Here. Hij zei: 2‘Mensenzoon, kijk in de richting van het land Ammon en profeteer tegen het volk dat daar woont. 3Vertel hun: luister naar wat de Oppermachtige Here te zeggen heeft: “Omdat u blij was toen mijn tempel werd verwoest, u Israël in haar ellende hebt bespot en Juda hebt uitgelachen toen het in gevangenschap werd weggevoerd, 4zal Ik de bedoeïenen, die ten oosten van u in de woestijn wonen, uw land laten innemen. Zij zullen hun tentenkampen te midden van u opzetten. Zij zullen al uw fruit plukken en eten en uw melkvee stelen. 5De stad Rabba zal Ik verwoesten en veranderen in een weide voor kamelen en het land van de Ammonieten in een rustplaats voor schaapskudden. Dan zult u weten dat Ik de Here ben.” 6Want de Oppermachtige Here zegt: “Omdat u in uw handen klapte en met uw voeten stampte en blij was om de vernietiging van mijn volk, 7zal Ik u zwaar straffen. Ik zal u uitleveren aan vele volken en die zullen u leegplunderen. Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat uw naam niet langer onder de volken wordt genoemd. Vernietigen zal ik u. Dan zult u weten dat Ik de Here ben.”
8De Oppermachtige Here zegt: “Omdat de Moabieten hebben gezegd dat Juda in niets verschilt van andere volken, 9-10 zal Ik de oostelijke flank van Moab openen en haar grenssteden, de trots van het volk, wegvagen: Bet-Jesimoth, Baäl-Meon en Kirjataïm. En bedoeïenenstammen uit de woestijn in het oosten zullen zich over haar uitstorten, net zo als zij bij Ammon zullen doen. Daarna zal Moab niet langer meetellen als volk. 11Zo zal Ik mijn oordeel op de Moabieten laten neerkomen en zij zullen weten dat Ik de Here ben.”
12En de Oppermachtige Here vervolgt: “Omdat het volk van Edom zo enorm heeft gezondigd door zich te wreken op het volk van Juda, 13zal Ik Edom met mijn vuist neerslaan en haar volk en al het vee uitroeien. Het zwaard zal alles, van Teman tot Dedan, verwoesten. 14Dit zal gebeuren door de hand van mijn volk Israël. Edom zal mijn vreselijke wraak aan den lijve ondervinden.”
15En de Oppermachtige Here zegt: “Omdat de Filistijnen zich uit eeuwenoude vijandschap hebben gewroken op Juda, 16zal Ik hen zwaar straffen. De Kretenzen zal ik wegvagen en de kustbewoners zal Ik volledig vernietigen.
17Ik zal wraak nemen en hen zwaar straffen voor wat zij hebben gedaan. En wanneer dit gebeurt, zullen zij weten dat Ik de Here ben.” ’
