Do Many Things to Succeed
1Sell your grain in the market overseas.
After a while you might earn something from it.
2Try to succeed by doing many things.
After all, you don’t know what great trouble might come on the land.
3Clouds that are full of water
pour rain down on the earth.
A tree might fall to the south or the north.
It will stay in the place where it falls.
4Anyone who keeps on watching the wind won’t plant seeds.
Anyone who keeps looking at the clouds won’t gather crops.
5You don’t know the path the wind takes.
You don’t know how a baby is made inside its mother.
So you can’t understand how God works either.
He made everything.
6In the morning plant your seeds.
In the evening keep your hands busy.
You don’t know what will succeed.
It may be one or the other.
Or both might do equally well.
Remember Your Creator While You Are Young
7Light is sweet.
People enjoy being out in the sun.
8No matter how many years anyone might live,
let them enjoy all of them.
But let them remember the dark days.
There will be many of those.
Nothing that’s going to happen will have any meaning.
9You young people, be happy while you are still young.
Let your heart be joyful while you are still strong.
Do what your heart tells you to do.
Go after what your eyes look at.
But I want you to know
that God will judge you for everything you do.
10So drive worry out of your heart.
Get rid of all your troubles.
Being young and strong doesn’t have any meaning.
Valoarea hărniciei
1Aruncă‑ți pâinea pe ape,
căci după multe zile o vei găsi iarăși;1 Cel mai probabil imaginea folosită aici este aceea a comerțului maritim, care, în Orientul Apropiat preistoric, era o investiție foarte riscantă, dar extrem de profitabilă.
2împarte‑o în șapte sau chiar în opt,
căci nu știi ce rău va veni pe pământ.
3Când norii sunt plini de apă,
atunci ei o deșartă pe pământ;
când un copac cade spre sud sau spre nord,
în locul în care cade, acolo rămâne.
4Cine se uită după vânt nu mai seamănă,
iar cine se uită după nori nu mai seceră.
5Așa cum nu știi calea vântului
și nici cum prind formă oasele5 Sau: nu știi cum intră viața (sau sufletul) / în trupul ce se formează. în pântecul femeii însărcinate,
tot astfel nu cunoști nici lucrarea lui Dumnezeu,
Cel Care le face pe toate.
6Seamănă sămânță dimineața,
iar seara nu‑ți odihni mâna de la semănat,
fiindcă nu știi care sămânță va răsări,
aceasta sau cealaltă,
și nici dacă amândouă vor fi la fel de bune.
Adu‑ți aminte, la tinerețe, de Creatorul tău!
7Lumina este plăcută
și este bine pentru ochi să vadă soarele.
8Dacă un om trăiește mulți ani,
să se bucure de toți aceștia,
dar să se gândească și la zilele de întuneric,
căci vor fi multe,
pentru că tot ce urmează să vină este deșertăciune.
9Bucură‑te, tinere, în tinerețea ta,
veselește‑ți inima cât ești tânăr!
Umblă pe căile dorite de inima ta
și plăcute ochilor tăi,
dar să știi că pentru toate acestea
te va chema Dumnezeu la judecată!
10Îndepărtează orice supărare din inima ta,
alungă răul din trupul tău,
căci tinerețea și zorile vieții sunt deșarte.
