The Ten Commandments
1Moses sent for all the Israelites. Here is what he said to them.
Israel, listen to me. Here are the rules and laws I’m announcing to you today. Learn them well. Be sure to obey them. 2The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Mount Horeb. 3He didn’t make it only with our people of long ago. He also made it with us. In fact, he made it with all of us who are alive here today. 4The Lord spoke to you face to face. His voice came out of the fire on the mountain. 5At that time I stood between the Lord and you. I announced to you the Lord’s message. I did it because you were afraid of the fire. You didn’t go up the mountain.
The Lord said,
6“I am the Lord your God. I brought you out of Egypt. That is the land where you were slaves.
7“Do not put any other gods in place of me.
8“Do not make statues of gods that look like anything in the sky or on the earth or in the waters. 9Do not bow down to them or worship them. I am the Lord your God. I want you to worship only me. I cause the sins of the parents to affect their children. I will cause the sins of those who hate me to affect even their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 10But for all time to come I show love to all those who love me and keep my commandments.
11“Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will find guilty anyone who misuses his name.
12“Keep the Sabbath day holy. Do this just as the Lord your God has commanded you. 13Do all your work in six days. 14But the seventh day is a sabbath to honor the Lord your God. Do not do any work on that day. The same command applies to your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your oxen, your donkeys and your other animals. It also applies to any outsiders who live in your towns. I want your male and female servants to rest, just as you do. 15Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. The Lord your God reached out his mighty hand and powerful arm and brought you out of there. So the Lord your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day holy.
16“Honor your father and mother, just as the Lord your God has commanded you. Then you will live a long time in the land he is giving you. And things will go well with you there.
17“Do not murder.
18“Do not commit adultery.
19“Do not steal.
20“Do not be a false witness against your neighbor.
21“Do not want to have your neighbor’s wife. Do not desire anything your neighbor owns. Do not desire to have your neighbor’s house or land, male or female servant, ox or donkey.”
22These are the commandments the Lord announced in a loud voice to your whole community. He gave them to you there on the mountain. He spoke out of the fire, cloud and deep darkness. He didn’t add anything else. Then he wrote the commandments on two stone tablets. And he gave them to me.
23The mountain was blazing with fire. You heard the voice coming out of the darkness. So your elders and all the leaders of your tribes came to me. 24You said, “The Lord our God has shown us his glory and majesty. We have heard his voice coming out of the fire. Today we have seen that a person can still stay alive even if God speaks with them. 25But why should we die? This great fire will burn us up. We’ll die if we hear the voice of the Lord our God again. 26We have heard the voice of the living God. We’ve heard him speaking out of the fire. Has any other human being ever heard him speak like that and stayed alive? 27Go near and listen to everything the Lord our God says. Then tell us what he tells you. We will listen and obey.”
28The Lord heard you when you spoke to me. He said to me, “I have heard what these people said to you. Everything they said was good. 29But I wish they would always have respect for me in their hearts. I wish they would always obey all my commands. Then things would go well with them and their children forever.
30“Go and tell them to return to their tents. 31But you stay here with me. Then I will give you all my commands, rules and laws. You must teach the people to obey them in the land I am giving them as their very own.”
32So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you. Don’t turn away from his commands to the right or the left. 33Live exactly as the Lord your God has commanded you to live. Then you will enjoy life in the land you will soon own. Things will go well with you there. You will live there for a long time.
Ang Napulo ka Sugo
(Exo. 20:1-17)
1Ginpatipon ni Moises ang tanan nga Israelinhon kag ginsilingan, “Mga Israelinhon, pamatii ninyo ang mga sugo kag mga pagsulundan nga ginahatag ko sa inyo subong. Tun-i ninyo ini kag sundon gid. 2Ang Ginoo nga aton Dios naghimo sang kasugtanan sa aton sa Bukid sang Sinai.5:2 Bukid sang Sinai: sa Hebreo, Horeb. 3Wala niya ini ginhimo sa aton mga katigulangan kundi sa aton tanan nga buhi subong. 4Didto sa bukid naghambal ang Ginoo sa inyo halin sa kalayo nga daw sa nagaatubangay lang kamo. 5Nagatindog ako sa tunga ninyo kag sang Ginoo sadto nga tion sa paghambal sa inyo sang mensahi sang Ginoo, kay nahadlok kamo sa kalayo kag indi kamo magsaka sa bukid. Nagsiling ang Ginoo,
6“ ‘Ako ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios nga nagpaguwa sa inyo sa Egipto nga sa diin kamo gin-ulipon.
7“ ‘Indi kamo magsimba sa iban nga dios magluwas sa akon.
8“ ‘Indi kamo maghimo sang mga dios-dios sa dagway sang bisan ano nga ara sa langit ukon sa duta ukon sa tubig. 9Indi gid ninyo ini pag-alagaron kag simbahon, kay ako, ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios, indi gid gusto nga may ginasimba kamo nga iban. Ginasilutan ko ang mga nakasala sa akon pati ang ila mga kaliwat hasta sa ikatatlo kag ikaapat nga henerasyon nga nagasikway sa akon. 10Pero ginapakita ko ang akon kaayo sa madamo gid nga mga henerasyon nga nagahigugma sa akon kag nagatuman sang akon mga sugo.
11“ ‘Indi ninyo paggamita ang akon ngalan sa wala sing pulos kay ako, ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios, magasilot sa kay bisan sin-o nga maggamit sang akon ngalan sa wala sing pulos.
12“ ‘Tumana ninyo ang akon mga ginapahimo sa Adlaw nga Inugpahuway, kag himua ninyo ini nga pinasahi nga adlaw para sa akon, ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios, suno sa ginmando ko sa inyo. 13Mag-obra kamo sa sulod sang anom ka adlaw, 14pero ang ikapito nga adlaw amo ang Adlaw nga Inugpahuway nga inyo painon para sa akon, ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios. Indi kamo mag-obra sa sina nga adlaw pati ang inyo mga anak, mga ulipon, mga baka, mga asno, kag iban pa ninyo nga kasapatan, kag ang mga indi Israelinhon nga nagaestar sa inyo mga banwa. Sa sini nga paagi makapahuway man ang inyo mga ulipon pareho sa inyo. 15Dumduma ninyo nga mga ulipon man kamo sadto sa Egipto, kag ako, ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios, nagpaguwa sa inyo didto paagi sa akon puwerte nga gahom. Gani ako, ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios, nagmando sa inyo nga tumanon ninyo ang akon mga ginapahimo sa Adlaw nga Inugpahuway.
16“ ‘Tahura ang inyo amay kag iloy, suno sa ginmando ko sa inyo, agod magkabuhi kamo sing malawig kag mangin maayo ang inyo kahimtangan sa duta nga ginahatag ko sa inyo.
17“ ‘Indi kamo magpatay.
18“ ‘Indi kamo magpanginbabayi ukon magpanginlalaki.
19“ ‘Indi kamo magpangawat.
20“ ‘Indi kamo magsaksi sing butig kontra sa inyo isigkatawo.
21“ ‘Indi kamo magkaibog sa asawa sang inyo isigkatawo, ukon sa iya balay, duta, mga ulipon, mga baka ukon asno, ukon sa bisan ano nga ara sa iya.’
22“Amo ina ang mga sugo sang Ginoo sa inyo tanan nga nagtipon didto sa bukid. Sang naghambal siya sa makusog nga tingog halin sa tunga sang kalayo nga napalibutan sang madamol nga panganod, ginhatag niya ini nga mga sugo kag wala na siya sang iban pa nga ginhambal. Ginsulat niya ini sa duha ka malapad nga bato kag ginhatag sa akon.
23“Sang nabatian ninyo ang tingog halin sa kadudulman samtang nagadabadaba ang bukid, nagpalapit sa akon ang tanan nga pangulo sang inyo mga tribo kag ang inyo mga manugdumala, 24kag nagsiling sila, ‘Ginpakita sa aton sang Ginoo nga aton Dios ang iya gamhanan nga presensya kag kadungganan, kag nabatian naton ang iya tingog halin sa kalayo. Nakita naton subong nga adlaw nga puwede mabuhi ang tawo bisan naghambal ang Dios sa iya. 25Pero indi namon pag-ibutang sa peligro ang amon kabuhi. Kay kon mabatian namon liwat ang tingog sang Ginoo nga aton Dios, sigurado nga lamunon gid kami sang gamhanan nga kalayo. 26May ara bala sang tawo nga nabuhi pa pagkatapos nga nabatian niya ang tingog sang buhi nga Dios halin sa kalayo pareho sa aton nabatian? 27Ikaw na lang ang magpalapit sa Ginoo nga aton Dios, kag pamatii ang tanan nga isiling niya. Dayon isugid mo na lang sa amon ang tanan nga ginsiling niya, kay pamatian namon ini kag tumanon.’
28“Nabatian sang Ginoo ang inyo ginsiling sang nagpakighambal kamo sa akon, kag nagsiling siya sa akon, ‘Nabatian ko kon ano ang ginsiling sang sini nga mga tawo sa imo, kag maayo ang tanan nila nga ginsiling. 29Kabay pa nga magtahod sila permi sa akon kag magtuman sa akon mga sugo agod mangin maayo ang kahimtangan nila kag sang ila mga kaliwat hasta san-o. 30Lakat kag hambala sila nga magbalik sila sa ila mga tolda. 31Pero magpabilin ka diri sa akon agod ihatag ko sa imo ang tanan nga sugo kag pagsulundan nga itudlo mo sa ila nga ila sundon didto sa duta nga ginahatag ko sa ila nga ila panag-iyahan.’
32“Gani tumana gid ninyo sing maayo ang ginmando sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa inyo. Indi ninyo paglapasa ang bisan isa sa iya mga sugo. 33Magkabuhi kamo suno sa ginsugo sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa inyo agod magkabuhi kamo sing malawig kag magmauswagon didto sa duta nga inyo panag-iyahan.
