Daniel Has a Vision About a Ram and a Goat
1It was the third year of King Belshazzar’s rule. After the vision that had already appeared to me, I had another one. 2In my vision I saw myself in the city of Susa. It has high walls around it. It is in the land of Elam. In the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal. 3I looked up and saw a ram that had two horns. It was standing beside the canal. Its horns were long. One of them was longer than the other. But that horn grew up later. 4I watched the ram as it charged toward the west. It also charged toward the north and the south. No animal could stand up against it. Not one of them could save anyone from its power. It did as it pleased. And it became great.
5I was thinking about all of this. Then a goat suddenly came from the west. It had a large horn between its eyes. The goat raced across the whole earth without even touching the ground. 6It came toward the ram that had the two horns. It was the ram I had seen standing beside the canal. The goat was very angry. It charged at the ram. 7I saw it attack the ram with mighty force. It struck the ram and broke the ram’s two horns. The ram didn’t have the power to stand up against it. The goat knocked the ram to the ground and stomped on it. No one could save the ram from the goat’s power. 8The goat became very great. But when its power was at its greatest, the goat’s large horn was broken off. In its place four large horns grew up toward the four winds of heaven.
9Out of one of the four horns came another horn. It was small at first but became more and more powerful. It grew to the south and to the east and toward the beautiful land of Israel. 10It grew until it reached the stars in the sky. It threw some of them down to the earth. And it stomped on them. 11It set itself up to be as great as the commander of the Lord’s army. It took away the daily sacrifices from the Lord. And his temple in Jerusalem was thrown down. 12Because many of the Lord’s people refused to obey him, they were handed over to the horn. The daily sacrifices were also given over to it. The horn was successful no matter what it did. And true worship of God was thrown down to the ground.
13Then I heard a holy angel speaking. Another holy angel spoke to him. He asked, “How long will it take for the vision to come true? When will the daily sacrifices be stopped? When will those who refuse to obey God be destroyed? When will the temple be handed over to an enemy? And when will some of the Lord’s people be stomped on?”
14One of the holy angels said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings. Then the temple will be made holy again.”
Gabriel Tells Daniel What His Vision Means
15I was having the vision. And I was trying to understand it. Then I saw someone who looked like a man. 16I heard a voice from the Ulai Canal. It called out, “Gabriel, tell Daniel what his vision means.”
17Gabriel came close to where I was standing. I was terrified and fell down flat with my face toward the ground. Here is what he said to me. “Son of man, I want you to understand the vision. It’s about the time of the end.”
18While he was speaking to me, I was sound asleep. I lay with my face on the ground. Then he touched me. He raised me to my feet.
19He said, “I am going to tell you what will happen later. It will take place when God is angry. The vision is about the appointed time of the end. 20You saw a ram that had two horns. It stands for the kings of Media and Persia. 21The goat stands for the king of Greece. The large horn between its eyes is the first king. 22Four horns took the horn’s place when it was broken off. They stand for four kingdoms that will come from his nation. But those kingdoms will not be as powerful as his.
23“Toward the end of their rule, those who refuse to obey God will become completely evil. Then another king will appear. He will have a scary-looking face. He will be a master at making clever plans. 24He will become very strong. But he will not get that way by his own power. People will be amazed at the way he destroys everything. He will be successful no matter what he does. He will destroy mighty people. Those mighty people are God’s holy people. 25He will tell lies in order to succeed. He will think he is more important than anyone else. When people feel safe, he will destroy many of them. He will stand up against the greatest Prince of all. Then he will be destroyed. But he will not be killed by human beings.
26“The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given to you is true. But seal up the vision. It is about a time far off.”
27I, Daniel, was worn out. I was too tired to get up for several days. Then I got up and returned to my work for the king. The vision bewildered me. I couldn’t understand it.
Viziunea cu berbecul și țapul
1În al treilea an1 Anul 551 î.Cr. al domniei împăratului Belșațar, mie, Daniel, mi s‑a arătat o viziune, după cea care mi se arătase înainte. 2În viziunea aceasta, m‑am văzut în capitala Susa, în provincia Elam2 Statutul pe care îl va avea Susa și Elamul în perioada la care face referire profeția.. Am mai văzut în viziune că eram pe malul râului Ulai. 3Mi‑am ridicat ochii, m‑am uitat și iată că lângă râu stătea un berbec cu două coarne3 Coarnele sunt armele de bază și ornamentele unui animal, mărimea și condiția acestora fiind indiciul puterii, al poziției și al sănătății/virilității lui. Prin urmare, cornul a ajuns să reprezinte în Biblie puterea, demnitatea și autoritatea, precum și victoria în luptă. În multe basoreliefuri mesopotamieme regii și zeitățile apar purtând coroane cu coarne pe ele. De asemenea, cornul se referă și la posteritate, la urmașii cuiva (vezi 2 Sam. 2:1; 1 Cron. 25:5; Ps. 132:17) [peste tot în capitol].. Coarnele acestea erau lungi, dar unul era mai lung decât celălalt. Cel lung crescuse la urmă. 4Am văzut cum berbecul împungea spre apus, spre nord și spre sud. Nicio vietate nu‑i putea sta împotrivă și nimeni nu putea scăpa de sub puterea lui. El făcea ce voia și a ajuns puternic.
5În timp ce căutam să înțeleg aceste lucruri, iată că a venit un țap din apus, străbătând fața întregului pământ, fără să atingă însă pământul. Țapul avea un corn impunător între ochi. 6A venit până la berbecul care avea două coarne, pe care l‑am văzut stând lângă râu, și s‑a năpustit asupra lui cu o furie năprasnică. 7L‑am văzut cum s‑a apropiat de berbec și s‑a întărâtat împotriva lui. Apoi a izbit berbecul și i‑a rupt cele două coarne, fără ca berbecul să fi avut putere să i se împotrivească. L‑a trântit la pământ și l‑a călcat în picioare. Și nu a fost nimeni care să‑l poată scăpa pe berbec de sub puterea țapului. 8Țapul a continuat să crească în putere, dar, când a ajuns la culmea puterii sale, cornul cel mare i s‑a rupt. În locul lui au ieșit alte patru coarne, impunătoare, înspre cele patru vânturi ale cerului.
9Dintr-unul din ele, din cel mic, a ieșit un corn9 Sau: Dintr-unul din ele a ieșit un corn mai mic. și el a crescut peste măsură de mult spre sud, spre răsărit și spre țara cea frumoasă. 10S‑a înălțat până la oștirea cerurilor, a aruncat la pământ o parte din oștire și din stele10 Vezi Dan. 12:3. și le‑a călcat în picioare. 11S‑a înălțat până la Căpetenia oștirii11 Prin titulatura Căpetenia oștirii se face referire, probabil, la Dumnezeu (vezi și Ios. 5:14-15). și i‑a luat jertfa continuă, iar locul Sfântului Său Lăcaș a fost dărâmat.11 Sau: profanat. 12Oștirea și jertfa continuă au fost date pe mâna lui din cauza fărădelegii.12 Sensul acestei propoziții este nesigur. Sau din cauza rebeliunii (vezi v. 11). El a aruncat adevărul la pământ și a reușit în ceea ce a făcut.
13Atunci am auzit un sfânt vorbind și un alt sfânt întrebându‑l pe cel ce vorbea: «În cât timp se va împlini viziunea despre jertfa continuă, despre fărădelegea13 Sau: rebeliunea. care pustiește și despre călcarea în picioare a Sfântului Lăcaș și a oștirii?»
14El mi‑a dat mie răspunsul: «Până vor trece două mii trei sute de seri și dimineți14 Probabil numărul jertfelor continue, care aveau loc de două ori pe zi, dimineața și seara; astfel, numărul zilelor este 1150.; apoi Sfântul Lăcaș va fi curățit.»
Interpretarea viziunii
15În timp ce eu, Daniel, aveam viziunea aceasta și căutam s‑o înțeleg, iată că cineva, care era la înfățișare ca un om, a apărut stând în picioare în fața mea. 16Am auzit un glas de om venind din mijlocul râului Ulai care striga și zicea: «Gabriel, fă‑l să înțeleagă această viziune!»
17Când a venit lângă locul unde eram, m‑am înspăimântat și m‑am aruncat cu fața la pământ. El mi‑a zis: «Înțelege, fiul omului, că viziunea este cu privire la vremea sfârșitului!»
18Când mi‑a vorbit, am căzut leșinat18 Termenul ebraic se referă la un somn adânc sau la un fel de transă. cu fața la pământ. El m‑a atins și m‑a ridicat iarăși în picioare în locul unde mă aflam.
19Apoi a zis: «Iată, îți fac cunoscut ce se va întâmpla când mânia va ajunge la capăt, căci este cu privire la vremea hotărâtă sfârșitului.19 Sau: căci sfârșitul va fi la vremea hotărâtă. 20Berbecul pe care l‑ai văzut, cu cele două coarne, îi înfățișează pe împărații Mediei și Persiei.20 Cornul mai mare, din v. 3, reprezintă probabil poziția proeminentă a Persiei. 21Țapul cel aprig este împăratul Iavanului21 Grecia.. Cornul cel mare, care era între ochii lui, este primul împărat.21 Alexandru Macedon. [336–323 î.Cr.] 22Faptul că acest corn a fost frânt și că în locul lui s‑au ridicat altele patru înseamnă că din neamul aceasta se vor ridica patru împărății, dar nu vor avea puterea ei.22 După moartea lui Alexandru, imperiul s‑a divizat în patru, nemaiavând puterea dinainte.
23La capătul domniei lor, când răzvrătiții vor fi la culme, se va ridica un împărat semeț23 Este vorba despre Antioh IV Epiphanes. [175–164 î.Cr.] și iscusit în uneltiri. 24Puterea lui va fi mare, dar nu prin propria‑i tărie. Va provoca distrugeri de necrezut și va reuși în ceea ce va face. Îi va distruge pe cei puternici și pe poporul celor sfinți. 25Prin istețimea lui, va face înșelătoria să învingă prin mâna lui și apoi se va mândri în inima lui. Va distruge pe mulți care se credeau în siguranță și va sta chiar împotriva25 Cu sensul de a sfida, a provoca. Căpeteniei căpeteniilor, dar va fi zdrobit, fără ajutorul vreunei mâini omenești.
26Cât despre viziunea cu serile și diminețile, care ți s‑a spus, ea este adevărată. Tu însă tăinuiește viziunea, căci este cu privire la niște zile îndepărtate.»
27Eu, Daniel, am fost epuizat și bolnav câteva zile, dar apoi m‑am ridicat și m‑am ocupat de treburile împăratului. Eram uimit datorită viziunii și n‑o înțelegeam.
