David Becomes King Over Israel
1All the tribes of Israel came to see David at Hebron. They said, “We are your own flesh and blood. 2In the past, Saul was our king. But you led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you, ‘You will be the shepherd over my people Israel. You will become their ruler.’ ”
3All the elders of Israel came to see King David at Hebron. There the king made a covenant with them in front of the Lord. They anointed David as king over Israel.
4David was 30 years old when he became king. He ruled for 40 years. 5In Hebron he ruled over Judah for seven and a half years. In Jerusalem he ruled over all of Israel and Judah for 33 years.
David Captures Jerusalem
6The king and his men marched to Jerusalem. They went to attack the Jebusites who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, “You won’t get in here. Even people who can’t see or walk can keep you from coming in.” The Jebusites thought, “David can’t get in here.” 7But David captured the fort of Zion. It became known as the City of David.
8On that day David had said, “Someone might win the battle over the Jebusites. But they will have to crawl through the water tunnel to get into the city. That’s the only way they can reach those enemies of mine that you say can’t see or walk.” That’s why people say, “Those who ‘can’t see or walk’ won’t enter David’s palace.”
9David moved into the fort. He called it the City of David. He built up the area around the fort. He filled in the low places. He started at the bottom and worked his way up. 10David became more and more powerful. That’s because the Lord God who rules over all was with him.
11Hiram was king of Tyre. He sent messengers to David. He sent cedar logs along with them. He also sent skilled workers. They worked with wood and stone. They built a palace for David. 12Then David knew that the Lord had made his position as king secure. He knew that he had made him king over the whole nation of Israel. He knew that the Lord had greatly honored his kingdom. The Lord had done it because the Israelites were his people.
13After David left Hebron, he got more concubines and wives in Jerusalem. More sons and daughters were born to him there. 14Here is a list of the children who were born to him in Jerusalem. Their names were Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 15Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, 16Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet.
David Wins the Battle Over the Philistines
17The Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel. So their whole army went to look for him. But David heard about it. He went down to his usual place of safety. 18The Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. 19So David asked the Lord for advice. He said, “Should I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?”
The Lord answered him, “Go. I will surely hand over the Philistines to you.”
20So David went to Baal Perazim. There he won the battle over the Philistines. He said, “The Lord has broken through against my enemies when I’ve attacked them. He has broken through just as water breaks through a dam.” That’s why the place was called Baal Perazim. 21The Philistines left the statues of their gods there. So David and his men carried off the statues.
22Once more the Philistines came up. They spread out in the Valley of Rephaim. 23So David asked the Lord for advice. The Lord answered, “Do not go straight up. Instead, circle around behind them. Attack them in front of the poplar trees. 24Listen for the sound of marching in the tops of the trees. Then move quickly. The sound will mean that I have gone out in front of you. I will strike down the Philistine army.” 25So David did just as the Lord had commanded him. He struck down the Philistines. He struck them down from Gibeon all the way to Gezer.
Nangin Hari si David sang Israel
(1 Cro. 11:1-9)
1Nagkadto ang tanan nga tribo sang Israel kay David sa Hebron kag nagsiling, “Mga kadugo mo kami. 2Halin sang una, bisan sang si Saul pa ang amon hari, ikaw ang nagapangulo sa mga Israelinhon sa pagpakig-away. Kag nagsiling ang Ginoo sa imo, ‘Atipanon mo ang akon katawhan nga mga Israelinhon pareho sa isa ka manug-atipan sang mga karnero. Ikaw ang mangin pangulo nila.’ ”
3Gani didto sa Hebron, naghimo si David sang kasugtanan sa mga manugdumala sang Israel sa presensya sang Ginoo, kag ginhaplasan nila sang lana ang ulo ni David sa pagpakita nga siya na ang hari sang Israel. 4Nagaedad si David sang 30 ka tuig sang nangin hari siya, kag naghari siya sa sulod sang 40 ka tuig. 5Pito ka tuig kag anom ka bulan ang iya paghari sa Juda samtang nagaestar siya sa Hebron, kag 33 ka tuig ang iya paghari sa bug-os nga Israel kag Juda samtang nagaestar siya sa Jerusalem.
Ang Pag-agaw ni David sa Jerusalem
6Isa ka tion, naglakat si David kag ang iya mga tinawo sa Jerusalem sa pagsalakay sa mga Jebusnon nga nagaestar didto. Nagsiling ang mga Jebusnon kay David, “Indi gid kamo makasulod diri sa Jerusalem! Bisan ang mga bulag kag mga piang makapugong sa inyo sa pagsulod.” Amo ato ang ila ginsiling, kay naghunahuna sila nga indi gid makasulod sila ni David. 7Pero naagaw gid man nila ni David ang mabakod nga kuta sang Zion, nga gintawag sang ulihi nga Banwa ni David.
8Sang wala pa masulod ni David ang Jerusalem, nagsiling siya sa iya mga tinawo, “Didto kamo agi sa alagyan sang tubig agod makasulod kamo sa Jerusalem kag mapierdi ninyo ang mga Jebusnon nga daw sa mga piang kag mga bulag. Kontra ko gid sila!” Amo ina nga may hulubaton nga nagasiling, “Indi makasulod ang mga bulag kag mga piang sa balay sang Ginoo.”
9Sa tapos maagaw ni David ang Zion, didto siya nag-estar, kag gintawag niya ato nga Banwa ni David. Ginpadugangan niya ini sang pader sa palibot halin sa manubo nga parte sang banwa.5:9 manubo nga parte sang banwa: sa Hebreo, Millo. Indi klaro ang buot silingon sini. 10Naggamhanan nga naggamhanan si David, tungod kay ginabuligan siya sang Ginoong Dios nga Makagagahom.
11Karon nagpadala si Haring Hiram sang Tyre sang mga mensahero kay David kaupod ang mga panday kag mga mason, lakip ang mga kahoy nga sedro, agod patindugan si David sang palasyo. 12Kag nareyalisar ni David nga ang Ginoo ang nagbutang sa iya nga hari sa Israel kag nagpauswag sang iya ginharian para sa iya katawhan nga mga Israelinhon.
13Sang magsaylo si David sa Jerusalem halin sa Hebron, madamo pa gid ang iya ginpangasawa; ang iban sa ila iya mga suluguon, kag nagdugang pa gid ang iya mga anak. 14Amo ini ang mga ngalan sang iya mga anak nga lalaki nga natawo sa Jerusalem: Shamua, Shobab, Natan, Solomon, 15Ibhar, Elishua, Nefeg, Jafia, 16Elishama, Eliada, kag Elifelet.
Ginpierdi ni David ang mga Filistinhon
(1 Cro. 14:8-17)
17Sang mabalitaan sang mga Filistinhon nga si David ang ginpili nga hari sa Israel, gintipon nila ang tanan nila nga mga soldado sa pagdakop sa iya. Pero nabalitaan ato ni David, gani nagkadto siya sa isa ka mabakod nga kuta. 18Karon, nagkampo ang mga Filistinhon sa Kapatagan sang Refaim. 19Gani nagpamangkot si David sa Ginoo, “Salakayon bala namon ang mga Filistinhon? Ipapierdi mo bala sila sa amon?” Nagsabat ang Ginoo sa iya, “Huo, lakat kamo, kay ipapierdi ko gid sila sa inyo.”
20Gani nagkadto sila ni David sa Baal Perazim, kag didto ginpierdi nila ang mga Filistinhon. Nagsiling dayon si David, “Ginlaglag sang Ginoo ang akon mga kaaway nga daw sa ginsalakay sang mabaskog nga baha, kag nakita ko ini mismo.” Amo ina kon ngaa gintawag ato nga lugar nga Baal Perazim.5:20 Baal Perazim: buot silingon sa Hebreo, ang Ginoo nga nagsalakay. 21Ginbayaan sang mga Filistinhon ang ila mga dios-dios didto, kag gindala ini ni David kag sang iya mga tinawo.
22Nagbalik liwat ang mga Filistinhon kag nagkampo sa Kapatagan sang Refaim. 23Gani nagpamangkot liwat si David sa Ginoo, kag nagsabat ang Ginoo, “Indi kamo magderetso salakay sa ila kundi libuti ninyo sila kag salakaya malapit sa mga kahoy nga balsam. 24Kon mabatian ninyo ang daw martsa sang mga soldado sa ibabaw nga parte sang mga kahoy nga balsam, magdali-dali kamo sa pagsalakay kay amo ina ang tanda nga nagapanguna ako sa inyo sa pagsalakay sa mga Filistinhon.” 25Gani gintuman ni David ang ginsugo sang Ginoo sa iya, kag ginpamatay nila ang mga Filistinhon halin sa Geba5:25 Geba: Amo ini sa Hebreo.
