Serving God in Front of the Ark
1The ark of God was carried into Jerusalem. It was put in the tent David had set up for it. The priests brought burnt offerings and friendship offerings to God. 2After David finished sacrificing those offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord. 3He gave to each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread. He also gave each one a date cake and a raisin cake.
4He appointed some of the Levites to serve in front of the ark of the Lord. David wanted them to give honor, thanks and praise to the Lord. He is the God of Israel. 5Asaph was the leader of those Levites. Zechariah was next in rank. Then came Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They played the lyres and harps. Asaph played the cymbals. 6Benaiah and Jahaziel, the priests, blew the trumpets. They blew them at regular times in front of the ark of the covenant of God.
7That day was the first time David appointed Asaph and his helpers. He appointed them to give praise to the Lord with these words.
8Give praise to the Lord. Make his name known.
Tell the nations what he has done.
9Sing to him. Sing praise to him.
Tell about all the wonderful things he has done.
10Honor him, because his name is holy.
Let the hearts of those who trust in the Lord be glad.
11Look to the Lord and to his strength.
Always look to him.
12Remember the wonderful things he has done.
Remember his miracles and how he judged our enemies.
13Remember, you his servants, the children of Israel.
Remember, you people of Jacob. Remember, you who are chosen by God.
14He is the Lord our God.
He judges the whole earth.
15He will keep his covenant forever.
He will keep his promise for all time to come.
16He will keep the covenant he made with Abraham.
He will keep the promise he made to Isaac.
17He made it stand as a law for Jacob.
He made it stand as a covenant for Israel. It will last forever.
18He said, “I will give you the land of Canaan.
It will belong to you.”
19At first there weren’t very many of God’s people.
There were only a few. And they were strangers in the land.
20They wandered from nation to nation.
They wandered from one kingdom to another.
21But God didn’t allow anyone to treat them badly.
To keep them safe, he gave a command to kings.
22He said to them, “Do not touch my anointed ones.
Do not harm my prophets.”
23All you people of the earth, sing to the Lord.
Day after day tell about how he saves us.
24Tell the nations about his glory.
Tell all people about the wonderful things he has done.
25The Lord is great. He is really worthy of praise.
People should have respect for him as the greatest God of all.
26All the gods of the nations are like their statues.
They can’t do anything.
But the Lord made the heavens.
27Glory and majesty are all around him.
Strength and joy are in the place where he lives.
28Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Praise the Lord for his glory and strength.
29Praise the Lord for the glory that belongs to him.
Bring an offering and come to him.
Worship the Lord because of his beauty and holiness.
30All you people of the earth, tremble when you are with him.
The world is firmly set in place. It can’t be moved.
31Let the heavens be filled with joy. Let the earth be glad.
Let them say among the nations, “The Lord rules!”
32Let the ocean and everything in it roar.
Let the fields and everything in them be glad.
33Let the trees in the forest sing with joy.
They will sing before the Lord.
He will judge the people of the world.
34Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good.
His faithful love continues forever.
35Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior.
Save us. Bring us back from among the nations.
Then we will give thanks to you, because your name is holy.
We will celebrate by praising you.”
36Give praise to the Lord, the God of Israel,
for ever and ever.
Then all the people said, “Amen!” They also said, “Praise the Lord.”
37David left Asaph and his helpers to serve in front of the ark of the covenant of the Lord. They served there at regular times. They did it as they were required to do each day. 38David also left Obed-Edom and his 68 helpers to serve with them. Obed-Edom and Hosah guarded the gates. Obed-Edom was the son of Jeduthun.
39David left Zadok the priest and some other priests in front of the holy tent of the Lord. It was at the high place in Gibeon. 40David left them there to sacrifice burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar every morning and evening. They did it according to everything written in the Law of the Lord. That’s the Law he had given to Israel. 41Heman and Jeduthun were with the priests. So were the rest of those who had been chosen by name and appointed to serve. They had been chosen to give thanks to the Lord, “because his faithful love continues forever.” 42It was the duty of Heman and Jeduthun to blow the trumpets. They also had the duty of playing the cymbals and other instruments for the sacred songs. The sons of Jeduthun were stationed at one of the gates.
43All the people left. Everyone went home. And David returned home to bless his family.
1Die Leviten trugen die Bundeslade in das Zelt, das David für sie errichtet hatte, und stellten sie auf den vorgesehenen Platz in der Mitte. Dann brachten sie Gott Brand- und Friedensopfer dar. 2Nach dem Opfer segnete David das Volk im Namen des Herrn. 3Alle Israeliten, Männer und Frauen, erhielten einen Laib Brot, einen Rosinen- und einen Dattelkuchen.
4David bestimmte einige Leviten dazu, von nun an ihren Dienst bei der Bundeslade zu versehen. Sie sollten auch weiterhin den Herrn, den Gott Israels, rühmen, preisen und loben. 5Ihr Leiter war Asaf, sein Stellvertreter Secharja; auf den Harfen und Lauten spielten Jeïël, Schemiramot, Jehiël, Mattitja, Eliab, Benaja, Obed-Edom und Jeïël. Asaf schlug die Zimbeln; 6die Priester Benaja und Jahasiël spielten Trompete und hielten sich immer in der Nähe der Bundeslade Gottes auf.
Ein Danklied
(Psalm 105,1‒15; 96; 106,1.47‒48)
7An diesem Festtag ließ David zum ersten Mal Asaf und die anderen Männer seiner Sippe folgendes Lied vortragen, um den Herrn zu loben:
8»Preist den Herrn und rühmt seinen Namen,
verkündet allen Völkern seine großen Taten!
9Singt und musiziert zu seiner Ehre,
macht alle seine Wunder bekannt!
10Seid stolz auf ihn, den heiligen Gott!
Ja, alle, die seine Nähe suchen, sollen sich freuen!
11Fragt nach dem Herrn und rechnet mit seiner Macht, wendet euch immer wieder an ihn!
12-13Ihr Nachkommen seines Dieners Israel,
erinnert euch an die Wunder, die er vollbracht hat!
Ihr Kinder und Enkel von Jakob, die er auserwählte,
denkt an all seine mächtigen Taten und Urteile!
14Er ist der Herr, unser Gott!
Auf der ganzen Welt hat er das letzte Wort.
15Vergesst niemals seinen Bund,
sein Versprechen, das er uns gab.
Es gilt für alle Generationen nach uns,
selbst wenn es tausende sind.
16Schon mit Abraham schloss er diesen Bund;
er schwor auch Isaak, sich daran zu halten.
17Gegenüber Jakob bestätigte er ihn als gültige Ordnung,
ja, als ewiges Bündnis für das Volk Israel.
18-19Als ihr noch eine kleine Schar wart,
nur wenige, dazu noch fremd im Land, sprach er:
›Euch gebe ich das Land Kanaan,
ihr sollt es für immer besitzen.‹
20Als Israel von Volk zu Volk wanderte,
von einem Ort zum anderen zog,
21da erlaubte er keinem, sie zu unterdrücken.
Die Könige der fremden Völker warnte er:
22›Rührt mein Volk nicht an, denn ich habe es erwählt!
Sie sind meine Propheten –
darum tut ihnen nichts Böses!‹
23Singt dem Herrn, alle Bewohner der Erde!
Verkündet jeden Tag: ›Gott ist ein Gott, der rettet!‹
24Erzählt den Völkern von seiner Hoheit!
Macht allen Menschen seine Wunder bekannt!
25Denn groß ist der Herr! Jeder soll ihn rühmen!
Von allen Göttern soll man ihn allein fürchten.
26Die Götter der Völker sind machtlose Figuren,
der Herr aber hat den Himmel geschaffen!
27Majestät und Pracht gehen von ihm aus,
seine Stärke und Freude erfüllen den Ort, wo er wohnt.
28Gebt dem Herrn, was ihm gebührt;
ihr Völker, erkennt seine Ehre und Macht!
29Preist seinen großen Namen,
kommt und bringt ihm eure Opfer dar!
Werft euch vor ihm nieder in seiner herrlichen Pracht!16,29 Oder: Werft euch vor ihm nieder in heiligem Schmuck!
30Die ganze Welt soll vor ihm erzittern!
Er hat die Fundamente der Erde gelegt,
niemals gerät sie ins Wanken.
31Der Himmel soll sich freuen
und die Erde in Jubel ausbrechen!
Sagt den Völkern: ›Der Herr allein ist König!‹
32Das Meer mit allem, was in ihm lebt, soll zu seiner Ehre brausen und tosen!
Der Acker sei fröhlich mit allem, was auf ihm wächst!
33Auch die Bäume im Wald sollen jubeln,
wenn der Herr kommt. Ja, er kommt, um die Welt zu richten.
34Preist den Herrn, denn er ist gut,
und seine Gnade hört niemals auf.
35Betet zu ihm: Rette uns, Gott,
du allein kannst uns helfen!
Befreie uns von den fremden Völkern
und bring uns wieder zusammen!
Dann werden wir deinen heiligen Namen preisen
und stolz darauf sein, dass wir dich loben können.
36Ja, gelobt sei der Herr, der Gott Israels,
jetzt und für alle Zeit!«
Da rief das ganze Volk: »Amen, so soll es sein!«, und alle lobten den Herrn.
Die Aufgaben der Leviten
37David ordnete an, dass Asaf und einige andere Leviten von nun an ständig bei der Bundeslade die täglichen Arbeiten ausführen sollten.
38Zu dieser Gruppe gehörten Obed-Edom und 68 andere Leviten. Hosa und Obed-Edom, der Sohn von Jedutun, bewachten den Zelteingang.
39Der Hohepriester Zadok und die übrigen Priester sollten ihren Dienst weiterhin im heiligen Zelt versehen, das immer noch an der Opferstätte in Gibeon stand. 40Jeden Morgen und Abend sollten sie dort auf dem Altar die Brandopfer darbringen und alles befolgen, was im Gesetz des Herrn steht, das er den Israeliten gegeben hat. 41Heman, Jedutun und noch weitere Sänger schickte David mit den Priestern nach Gibeon. Sie sollten dort mit ihren Liedern den Herrn dafür loben, dass seine Gnade nie aufhört. 42Sie nahmen Trompeten, Zimbeln und andere Instrumente mit, die zur Ehre Gottes den Gesang begleiten sollten. Jedutuns Söhne hatten den Zelteingang zu bewachen.
43Als die Feier vorüber war, machten sich alle auf den Heimweg. Auch David ging nach Hause, um seine eigene Familie zu segnen16,43 Oder: zu begrüßen..
