David’s Palace and Family
1Hiram was king of Tyre. He sent messengers to David. He sent cedar logs along with them. He also sent skilled workers to build a palace for David. They worked with stone and wood. 2David knew that the Lord had made his position as king secure. He knew that the Lord had made him king over the whole nation of Israel. He knew that the Lord had greatly honored his kingdom. The Lord had done it because the Israelites were his people.
3In Jerusalem David married more women. He also became the father of more sons and daughters. 4Here is a list of the children born to him in Jerusalem. Their names were Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 5Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, 6Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 7Elishama, Beeliada and Eliphelet.
David Wins the Battle Over the Philistines
8The Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over the entire nation of Israel. So the whole Philistine army went to look for him. But David heard about it. He went out to where they were. 9The Philistines had come and attacked the people in the Valley of Rephaim. 10So David asked God for advice. David asked, “Should I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?”
The Lord answered him, “Go. I will hand them over to you.”
11So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim. There David won the battle over the Philistines. He said, “God has broken through against my enemies, just as water breaks through a dam.” That’s why the place was called Baal Perazim. 12The Philistines had left statues of their gods there. So David gave orders to burn them up.
13Once more the Philistines attacked the people in the valley. 14So David asked God for advice again. God answered him, “Do not go straight after them. Instead, circle around them. Attack them in front of the poplar trees. 15Listen for the sound of marching in the tops of the trees. Then move out to fight. The sound will mean that I have gone out in front of you. I will strike down the Philistine army.” 16So David did just as God had commanded him. He and his men struck down the Philistine army. They struck them down from Gibeon all the way to Gezer.
17So David became famous in every land. The Lord made all the nations afraid of him.
Palacio y familia de David
14:1-7 – 2S 5:11-16; 1Cr 3:5-8
1Hiram, rey de Tiro, envió mensajeros a David y también madera de cedro, canteros y carpinteros para construirle un palacio. 2Con esto David se dio cuenta de que el Señor, por amor a su pueblo, lo había establecido a él como rey sobre Israel y había engrandecido su reino.
3En Jerusalén David tomó otras esposas y tuvo más hijos e hijas. 4Los hijos que tuvo allí fueron: Samúa, Sobab, Natán, Salomón, 5Ibjar, Elisúa, Elpélet, 6Noga, Néfeg, Jafía, 7Elisama, Belyadá y Elifelet.
David derrota a los filisteos
14:8-17 – 2S 5:17-25
8Al enterarse los filisteos de que David había sido ungido rey de todo Israel, subieron todos ellos contra él. Pero David lo supo y salió a su encuentro. 9Los filisteos habían avanzado e invadido el valle de Refayin. 10Así que David consultó a Dios:
—¿Debo atacar a los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en mi poder?
—Atácalos —respondió el Señor—, pues yo los entregaré en tus manos.
11Entonces fueron a Baal Perasín14:11 En hebreo, Baal Perasín significa el dueño de las brechas. y allí David los derrotó. Y dijo: «Como se abren brechas en el agua, así Dios ha abierto brechas entre mis enemigos por medio de mí». Por eso a aquel lugar lo llamaron Baal Perasín. 12Allí los filisteos abandonaron a sus dioses y estos fueron quemados por orden de David.
13Pero los filisteos volvieron a invadirlos en el valle. 14Así que David volvió a consultar a Dios y este respondió:
—No los ataques de frente, sino rodéalos hasta llegar a los árboles de bálsamo y entonces atácalos por la retaguardia. 15Tan pronto como oigas un ruido como de pasos sobre las copas de los árboles, atácalos, pues eso quiere decir que Dios va al frente de ti para derrotar al ejército filisteo.
16Así lo hizo David, tal como Dios se lo había ordenado, y derrotaron al ejército filisteo desde Gabaón hasta Guézer.
17La fama de David se extendió por todas las regiones, y el Señor hizo que todos los pueblos le tuvieran miedo.
