El dar a los necesitados
1»Cuídense de no hacer sus obras de justicia delante de la gente para llamar la atención. Si actúan así, su Padre que está en el cielo no les dará ninguna recompensa.
2»Por eso, cuando des a los necesitados, no lo anuncies al son de trompeta, como lo hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles para que la gente les rinda homenaje. Les aseguro que ellos ya han recibido toda su recompensa. 3Más bien, cuando des a los necesitados, que no se entere tu mano izquierda de lo que hace la derecha, 4para que tu limosna sea en secreto. Así tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará.
La oración
6:9-13 – Lc 11:2-4
5»Cuando oren, no sean como los hipócritas, porque a ellos les encanta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas para que la gente los vea. Les aseguro que ya han obtenido toda su recompensa. 6Pero tú, cuando te pongas a orar, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y ora a tu Padre, que está en lo secreto. Así tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará. 7Y al orar, no hablen solo por hablar como hacen los gentiles, porque ellos se imaginan que serán escuchados por sus muchas palabras. 8No sean como ellos, porque su Padre sabe lo que ustedes necesitan antes de que se lo pidan.
9»Ustedes deben orar así:
»“Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre.
10Venga tu reino.
Hágase tu voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
11Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano.6:11 nuestro pan cotidiano. Alt. el pan que necesitamos.
12Perdónanos nuestras ofensas,
como también nosotros hemos perdonado a nuestros ofensores.
13Y no nos dejes caer en tentación,
sino líbranos del maligno”.6:13 del maligno. Alt. del mal. Var. del maligno, porque tuyos son el reino y el poder y la gloria para siempre. Amén.
14»Porque si perdonan a otros sus ofensas, también los perdonará a ustedes su Padre celestial. 15Pero si no perdonan a otros sus ofensas, tampoco su Padre perdonará a ustedes las suyas.
El ayuno
16»Cuando ayunen, no pongan cara triste como hacen los hipócritas, que cambian sus rostros para mostrar que están ayunando. Les aseguro que estos ya han obtenido toda su recompensa. 17Pero tú, cuando ayunes, perfúmate la cabeza y lávate la cara 18para que no sea evidente ante los demás que estás ayunando, sino solo ante tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará.
Tesoros en el cielo
6:22-23 – Lc 11:34-36
19»No acumulen para sí tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido destruyen, y donde los ladrones se meten a robar. 20Más bien, acumulen para sí tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el óxido carcomen, ni los ladrones se meten a robar. 21Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón.
22»Los ojos son la lámpara del cuerpo. Por tanto, si tus ojos son buenos, todo tu ser disfrutará de la luz. 23Pero si los ojos son malos, todo tu ser estará en oscuridad. Si la luz que hay en ti es oscuridad, ¡qué densa será esa oscuridad!
24»Nadie puede servir a dos señores, pues menospreciará a uno y amará al otro o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. Ustedes no pueden servir a la vez a Dios y a las riquezas.
De nada sirve preocuparse
6:25-33 – Lc 12:22-31
25»Por eso les digo: No se preocupen por su vida, qué comerán o beberán; ni por su cuerpo, cómo se vestirán. ¿No tiene la vida más valor que la comida y el cuerpo más que la ropa? 26Fíjense en las aves del cielo: no siembran ni cosechan, ni almacenan en graneros; sin embargo, el Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valen ustedes mucho más que ellas? 27¿Quién de ustedes, por mucho que se preocupe, puede añadir una sola hora al curso de su vida?6:27 puede añadir … su vida. Alt. puede aumentar su estatura siquiera medio metro (lit. un codo).
28»¿Y por qué se preocupan por la ropa? Observen cómo crecen los lirios del campo. No trabajan ni hilan; 29sin embargo, les digo que ni siquiera Salomón, con todo su esplendor, se vestía como uno de ellos. 30Si así viste Dios a la hierba que hoy está en el campo y mañana es arrojada al horno, ¿no hará mucho más por ustedes, gente de poca fe? 31Así que no se preocupen diciendo: “¿Qué comeremos?”, o “¿Qué beberemos?” o “¿Con qué nos vestiremos?”. 32Los paganos andan tras todas estas cosas, pero su Padre celestial sabe que ustedes las necesitan. 33Más bien, busquen primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, entonces todas estas cosas les serán añadidas. 34Por lo tanto, no se preocupen por el mañana, el cual tendrá sus propios afanes. Cada día tiene ya sus problemas.
1Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5¶ And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16¶ Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 17But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; 18That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24¶ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
