Respuesta de Job
1Job respondió entonces al Señor. Le dijo:
2«Yo sé bien que tú lo puedes todo,
que no es posible frustrar ninguno de tus planes.
3“¿Quién es este —has preguntado—,
que sin conocimiento oscurece mi consejo?”.
Reconozco que he hablado de cosas que no alcanzo a comprender,
de cosas demasiado maravillosas
que me son desconocidas.
4»Dijiste:42:4 Dijiste. Véase 38:3. “Ahora escúchame, yo voy a hablar;
yo te cuestionaré y tú me responderás”.
5De oídas había oído hablar de ti,
pero ahora te veo con mis propios ojos.
6Por tanto, me retracto
y me arrepiento en polvo y ceniza».
Epílogo
7Después de haberle dicho todo esto a Job, el Señor se dirigió a Elifaz de Temán y dijo: «Estoy muy enojado contigo y con tus dos amigos porque, a diferencia de mi siervo Job, lo que ustedes han hablado de mí no es verdad. 8Tomen ahora siete novillos y siete carneros, vayan con mi siervo Job y ofrezcan un holocausto por ustedes mismos. Mi siervo Job orará por ustedes, y yo atenderé a su oración y no los haré quedar en vergüenza. Conste que, a diferencia de mi siervo Job, lo que ustedes han dicho de mí no es verdad».
9Elifaz de Temán, Bildad de Súah y Zofar de Namat fueron y cumplieron con lo que el Señor les había ordenado y el Señor atendió a la oración de Job.
10Después de haber orado Job por sus amigos, el Señor lo hizo prosperar de nuevo y le dio dos veces más de lo que antes tenía. 11Todos sus hermanos y hermanas, y todos los que antes lo habían conocido, fueron a su casa y celebraron con él un banquete. Lo animaron y lo consolaron por todas las calamidades que el Señor había enviado, y cada uno de ellos le dio una pieza de plata42:11 pieza de plata. Lit. quesita (término monetario hebreo cuyo peso y valor no se conocen). y un anillo de oro.
12El Señor bendijo más los últimos años de Job que los primeros, pues llegó a tener catorce mil ovejas, seis mil camellos, mil yuntas de bueyes y mil asnas. 13Tuvo también siete hijos y tres hijas. 14A la primera de ellas le puso por nombre Jemima, a la segunda la llamó Quesia y a la tercera, Keren Hapuc.42:14 Jemima, que significa Paloma; Quesia, que significa Canela; Keren Hapuc, que significa Frasquito de maquillaje. 15No había en todo el país mujeres tan bellas como las hijas de Job. Su padre les dejó una herencia, lo mismo que a sus hermanos.
16Después de estos sucesos Job vivió ciento cuarenta años. Llegó a ver a sus hijos y a los hijos de sus hijos, hasta la cuarta generación. 17Disfrutó de una larga vida y murió muy anciano.
1Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 2I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.42.2 no thought can be…: or, no thought of thine can be hindered 3Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. 4Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 5I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. 6Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
7¶ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 8Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.42.8 him: Heb. his face, or, person 9So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.42.9 Job: Heb. the face of Job
10And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.42.10 gave…: Heb. added all that had been to Job unto the double 11Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. 12So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. 13He had also seven sons and three daughters. 14And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. 15And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. 16After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations. 17So Job died, being old and full of days.
