Primer discurso de Zofar
1A esto respondió Zofar de Namat:
2«¿Quedará sin respuesta toda esta palabrería?
¿Resultará inocente este hablador?
3¿Todo ese discurso nos dejará callados?
¿Te burlarás sin que nadie te reprenda?
4Tú afirmas: “Mi postura es la correcta;
soy puro a los ojos de Dios”.
5¡Cómo me gustaría que Dios interviniera
y abriera sus labios contra ti
6para mostrarte los secretos de la sabiduría,
pues esta tiene dos lados!11:6 esta tiene dos lados. Frase de difícil traducción.
Sabrías entonces que buena parte de tu pecado
Dios no lo ha tomado en cuenta.
7»¿Puedes adentrarte en los misterios de Dios
o alcanzar la perfección11:7 alcanzar la perfección. Alt. llegar hasta los límites. del Todopoderoso?
8Son más altos que los cielos;
¿qué puedes hacer?
Son más profundos que el abismo;11:8 abismo. Lit. Seol.
¿qué puedes saber?
9Son más extensos que toda la tierra;
¡son más anchos que todo el mar!
10»Si viene y te pone en un calabozo,
y luego te llama a cuentas,
¿quién lo hará desistir?
11Bien conoce Dios a la gente sin escrúpulos;
cuando percibe el mal, no lo pasa por alto.
12¡El necio llegará a ser sabio
cuando de un asno salvaje nazca un hombre!11:12 cuando … hombre. Alt. cuando los asnos salvajes nazcan domesticados.
13»Pero si le entregas tu corazón
y hacia él extiendes las manos,
14si te apartas del pecado que has cometido
y en tu morada no das cabida al mal,
15entonces podrás llevar la frente en alto
y mantenerte firme y libre de temor.
16Ciertamente olvidarás tus pesares
o los recordarás como el agua que pasó.
17Tu vida será más radiante que el sol de mediodía
y la oscuridad será como el amanecer.
18Vivirás tranquilo, porque hay esperanza;
estarás protegido11:18 estarás protegido. Alt. mirarás en torno tuyo (TM). y dormirás confiado.
19Descansarás sin temer a nadie
y muchos querrán ganarse tu favor.
20Pero los ojos de los malvados se apagarán;
no tendrán escapatoria.
¡Su esperanza es exhalar el último suspiro!».
Zophar
1Then Zophar the Naamathite replied:
2“Are all these words to go unanswered?
Is this talker to be vindicated?
3Will your idle talk reduce others to silence?
Will no one rebuke you when you mock?
4You say to God, ‘My beliefs are flawless
and I am pure in your sight.’
5Oh, how I wish that God would speak,
that he would open his lips against you
6and disclose to you the secrets of wisdom,
for true wisdom has two sides.
Know this: God has even forgotten some of your sin.
7“Can you fathom the mysteries of God?
Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
8They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do?
They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know?
9Their measure is longer than the earth
and wider than the sea.
10“If he comes along and confines you in prison
and convenes a court, who can oppose him?
11Surely he recognizes deceivers;
and when he sees evil, does he not take note?
12But the witless can no more become wise
than a wild donkey’s colt can be born human.11:12 Or wild donkey can be born tame
13“Yet if you devote your heart to him
and stretch out your hands to him,
14if you put away the sin that is in your hand
and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,
15then, free of fault, you will lift up your face;
you will stand firm and without fear.
16You will surely forget your trouble,
recalling it only as waters gone by.
17Life will be brighter than noonday,
and darkness will become like morning.
18You will be secure, because there is hope;
you will look about you and take your rest in safety.
19You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid,
and many will court your favor.
20But the eyes of the wicked will fail,
and escape will elude them;
their hope will become a dying gasp.”
