Natán reprende a David
11:1; 12:29-31 – 1Cr 20:1-3
1El Señor envió a Natán para que hablara con David. Cuando se presentó ante David, dijo:
—Dos hombres vivían en un pueblo. El uno era rico y el otro, pobre. 2El rico tenía muchísimas ovejas y vacas; 3en cambio, el pobre no tenía más que una sola ovejita que él mismo había comprado y criado. La ovejita creció con él y con sus hijos: comía de su plato, bebía de su vaso y dormía en su regazo. Era para ese hombre como su propia hija. 4Pero sucedió que un viajero llegó de visita a casa del hombre rico y, como este no quería matar ninguna de sus propias ovejas o vacas para darle de comer al huésped, le quitó al hombre pobre su única ovejita.
5Tan grande fue el enojo de David contra aquel hombre, que respondió a Natán:
—¡Tan cierto como que el Señor vive, quien hizo esto merece la muerte! 6¿Cómo pudo hacer algo tan ruin? ¡Ahora pagará cuatro veces el valor de la oveja!
7Entonces Natán dijo a David:
—¡Tú eres ese hombre! Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Yo te ungí como rey sobre Israel y te libré de la mano de Saúl. 8Te di el palacio de tu amo y puse sus mujeres en tus brazos. También te permití gobernar a Israel y a Judá. Y por si esto hubiera sido poco, te habría dado mucho más. 9¿Por qué, entonces, despreciaste la palabra del Señor haciendo lo que le desagrada? ¡Asesinaste a Urías el hitita para apoderarte de su esposa! ¡Lo mataste con la espada de los amonitas! 10Por eso la espada jamás se apartará de tu familia, pues me despreciaste al tomar la esposa de Urías el hitita para hacerla tu mujer”.
11»Pues bien, así dice el Señor: “Yo haré que el desastre que mereces surja de tu propia familia, y ante tus propios ojos tomaré a tus mujeres y se las daré a otro, el cual se acostará con ellas en pleno día. 12Lo que tú hiciste a escondidas, yo lo haré a plena luz, a la vista de todo Israel”».
13—¡He pecado contra el Señor! —reconoció David ante Natán.
—El Señor ha perdonado ya tu pecado y no morirás —contestó Natán—. 14Sin embargo, tu hijo sí morirá, pues con tus acciones has mostrado desprecio al12:14 al. TM: a los enemigos del. Señor.
15Dicho esto, Natán volvió a su casa. Y el Señor hirió al hijo que la esposa de Urías había dado a David, de modo que el niño cayó gravemente enfermo. 16David se puso a rogar a Dios por él; ayunaba y pasaba las noches tirado en el suelo. 17Los oficiales de su corte iban a verlo y le rogaban que se levantara, pero él se resistía y aun se negaba a comer con ellos.
18Siete días después, el niño murió. Los oficiales de David tenían miedo de darle la noticia, pues decían: «Si cuando el niño estaba vivo hablábamos al rey y no nos hacía caso, ¿qué locura no hará ahora si le decimos que el niño ha muerto?». 19Pero David, al ver que sus oficiales estaban cuchicheando, se dio cuenta de lo que había pasado y preguntó:
—¿Ha muerto el niño?
—Sí, ya ha muerto —respondieron.
20Entonces David se levantó del suelo y enseguida se bañó y se perfumó; luego se cambió de ropas y fue a la casa del Señor para adorar. Después regresó al palacio, pidió que le sirvieran alimentos y comió.
21—¿Qué forma de actuar es esta? —preguntaron sus oficiales—. Cuando el niño estaba vivo, usted ayunaba y lloraba; pero ahora que se ha muerto, ¡usted se levanta y se pone a comer!
22David respondió:
—Es verdad que cuando el niño estaba vivo yo ayunaba y lloraba, pues pensaba: “¿Quién sabe? Tal vez el Señor tenga compasión de mí y permita que el niño viva”. 23Pero ahora que ha muerto, ¿qué razón tengo para ayunar? ¿Acaso puedo devolverle la vida? Yo iré adonde él está, aunque él ya no volverá a mí.
24Luego David fue a consolar a su esposa y se unió a ella. Betsabé le dio un hijo, al que llamó Salomón. El Señor amó al niño 25y mandó a decir por medio del profeta Natán que le pusieran por nombre Jedidías,12:25 En hebreo, Jedidías significa amado por el Señor. por disposición del Señor.
26Mientras tanto, Joab había atacado la ciudad amonita de Rabá y capturado la fortaleza12:26 fortaleza. Lit. ciudad. real. 27Entonces envió unos mensajeros a decirle a David: «Acabo de atacar a Rabá y he capturado los depósitos12:27 los depósitos. Lit. la ciudad. de agua. 28Ahora, pues, le pido a usted que movilice el resto de las tropas para sitiar y capturar la ciudad. Si no, lo haré yo mismo y le pondrán mi nombre».
29Por tanto, David, movilizando todas las tropas, marchó contra Rabá, la atacó y la capturó. 30Al rey de los amonitas12:30 al rey de los amonitas. Además, David saqueó la ciudad y se llevó un botín inmenso. 31Expulsó de allí a sus habitantes y los puso a trabajar con sierras, picos y hachas de hierro, y también los forzó a trabajar en los hornos de ladrillos. Lo mismo hizo con todos los pueblos amonitas, después de lo cual regresó a Jerusalén con todas sus tropas.
1And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. 2The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: 3But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.12.3 meat: Heb. morsel 4And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him. 5And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:12.5 shall…: or, is worthy to die, or, is a son of death 6And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.
7¶ And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 8And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. 9Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 10Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 11Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. 12For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. 13And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. 14Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
15¶ And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick. 16David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.12.16 fasted: Heb. fasted a fast 17And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them. 18And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?12.18 vex: Heb. do hurt 19But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead. 20Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat. 21Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread. 22And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? 23But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
24¶ And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him. 25And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.12.25 Jedidiah: that is, Beloved of the LORD
26¶ And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city. 27And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters. 28Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.12.28 it be called…: Heb. my name be called upon it 29And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it. 30And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.12.30 in great…: Heb. very great 31And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.
