Preparativos para la construcción del templo
5:1-16 – 2Cr 2:1-18
1El rey Hiram de Tiro siempre había tenido buenas relaciones con David; así que al saber que Salomón había sido ungido para suceder en el trono a su padre David, le mandó una embajada. 2En respuesta, Salomón envió este mensaje:
3«Tú bien sabes que, debido a las guerras en que mi padre David se vio envuelto, no le fue posible construir un templo en honor al nombre del Señor su Dios. Tuvo que esperar hasta que el Señor sometiera a sus enemigos bajo su dominio. 4Pues bien, ahora el Señor mi Dios me ha dado paz por todas partes, de modo que no me amenazan ni adversarios ni calamidades. 5Por lo tanto, me propongo construir un templo en honor al nombre del Señor mi Dios, pues él le prometió a mi padre David: “Tu hijo, a quien pondré en el trono como sucesor tuyo, construirá el templo en honor de mi Nombre”.
6»Ahora, pues, ordena que se talen para mí cedros del Líbano. Mis obreros trabajarán con los tuyos y yo te pagaré el salario que determines para tus obreros. Tú sabes que no hay entre nosotros quien sepa talar madera tan bien como los sidonios».
7Cuando Hiram oyó el mensaje de Salomón, se alegró mucho y dijo: «¡Alabado sea hoy el Señor, porque le ha dado a David un hijo sabio para gobernar a esta gran nación!».
8Entonces Hiram envió a Salomón este mensaje:
«He recibido tu petición. Yo te proporcionaré toda la madera de cedro y de ciprés que quieras. 9Mis obreros la transportarán desde el Líbano hasta el mar. Allí haré que la aten en forma de balsas para llevarla flotando hasta donde me indiques y allí se desatará para que la recojas. Tú, por tu parte, tendrás a bien proporcionarle alimento a mi corte».
10Así que Hiram le proveía a Salomón toda la madera de cedro y de ciprés que este deseaba. 11Salomón, por su parte, año tras año le entregaba a Hiram, como alimento para su corte, veinte mil coros5:11 Es decir, aprox. 3,200 t. de trigo y veinte mil batos5:11 veinte mil batos. Es decir, aprox. 440 000 l, siguiendo el texto de la LXX; véase también 2Cr 2:10. El texto hebreo dice veinte coros. de aceite de oliva. 12El Señor, cumpliendo su palabra, dio sabiduría a Salomón. Hiram y Salomón hicieron un tratado y hubo paz entre ellos.
13El rey Salomón impuso trabajo forzado y reclutó a treinta mil obreros de todo Israel. 14Los envió al Líbano en relevos de diez mil al mes, de modo que pasaban un mes en el Líbano y dos meses en su casa. La supervisión del trabajo forzado estaba a cargo de Adonirán. 15Salomón tenía en las montañas setenta mil cargadores y ochenta mil canteros; 16había además tres mil trescientos capataces que estaban al frente de la obra y dirigían a los trabajadores. 17Para echar los cimientos del templo, el rey mandó que sacaran de la cantera grandes bloques de piedra de buena calidad. 18Los obreros de Salomón e Hiram, junto con los que habían llegado de Guebal,5:18 Guebal. Es decir, Byblos. tallaron la madera y labraron la piedra para la construcción del templo.

7¶ And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people. 8And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.5.8 considered: Heb. heard 9My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.5.9 appoint: Heb. send
10So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire. 11And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.5.11 measures: Heb. cors 12And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
13¶ And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.5.13 levy: Heb. tribute of men 14And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy. 15And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains; 16Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work. 17And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house. 18And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.5.18 stonesquarers: or, Giblites
