지혜의 유익
1내 아들들아, 너희 아버지가 가르치는 말을 잘 들어라. 유의해서 들으면 깨달 음을 얻을 것이다.
2내가 너희에게 건전한 것을 가르친다. 너희는 나의 교훈을 저버리지 말아라.
3나도 한때는 외아들로서 부모의 사랑을 받던 어린 시절이 있었다.
4그때 나의 아버지는 이런 말씀으로 나를 교훈하셨다. “내가 하는 말을 기억하고 잊지 말아라. 내 명령을 지켜라. 그러면 네가 살 것이다.
5지혜와 깨달음을 얻어라. 내 말을 잊어버리거나 무시하지 말아라.
6지혜를 버리지 말아라. 지혜가 너를 보호할 것이다. 지혜를 사랑하라. 지혜가 너를 지킬 것이다.
7지혜는 가장 소중한 것이다. 지혜를 얻어라. 그 어떤 것을 희생하고서라도 깨달음을 얻어라.
8지혜를 찬양하라. 지혜가 너를 높일 것이다. 지혜를 고이 간직하라. 지혜가 너를 영화롭게 할 것이다.
9지혜가 우아한 화관을 네 머리에 씌우고 영광스러운 면류관을 너에게 줄 것이다.”
10내 아들아, 내 말을 듣고 받아들여라. 그러면 네가 장수할 것이다.
11내가 너에게 지혜와 옳은 길을 가르쳤으니
12네가 걸어갈 때 네 걸음이 방해를 받지 않을 것이며 네가 달려갈 때에도 걸려 넘어지지 않을 것이다.
13내 교훈을 잊지 말고 굳게 지켜라. 이것은 너의 생명과도 같은 것이다.
14너는 악인들이 가는 곳에 가지 말고 그들의 행동을 본받지 말아라.
15너는 악한 길을 피하고 그들의 길로 가지 말며 돌아서라.
16악인들은 나쁜 짓을 하지 않으면 4:16 원문에는 ‘자지 못하며’직성이 풀리지 않으며 남을 해치지 않으면 잠이 오지 않는다.
17그들은 악의 빵을 먹고 폭력의 술을 마신다.
18의로운 자의 길은 점점 밝아져서 완전히 빛나는 아침 햇빛 같으며
19악인의 길은 캄캄한 어두움과 같아서 그들이 넘어져도 무엇에 걸려 넘어졌는지조차 알지 못한다.
20내 아들아, 내가 하는 말에 귀를 기울이고 주의 깊게 들어라.
21그것을 네게서 떠나지 말게 하고 네 마음에 깊이 간직하라.
22내 말은 깨닫는 자에게 생명이 되고 온 몸에 건강이 된다.
23그 무엇보다도 네 마음을 지켜라. 여기서부터 생명의 샘이 흘러나온다.
24더럽고 추한 말을 버려라. 거짓되고 잘못된 말은 입 밖에도 내지 말아라.
25너는 앞만 바라보고 시선을 다른 곳으로 돌리지 말며
26네 걸음을 조심하고 4:26 또는 ‘네 모든 길을 든든히 하라’무엇을 하든지 확실하게 하라.
27너는 곁길로 벗어나지 말고 네 발을 악에서 떠나게 하라.
Get wisdom at any cost
1Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction;
pay attention and gain understanding.
2I give you sound learning,
so do not forsake my teaching.
3For I too was a son to my father,
still tender, and cherished by my mother.
4Then he taught me, and he said to me,
‘Take hold of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands, and you will live.
5Get wisdom, get understanding;
do not forget my words or turn away from them.
6Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;
love her, and she will watch over you.
7The beginning of wisdom is this: get4:7 Or Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have,4:7 Or wisdom. / Whatever else you get get understanding.
8Cherish her, and she will exalt you;
embrace her, and she will honour you.
9She will give you a garland to grace your head
and present you with a glorious crown.’
10Listen, my son, accept what I say,
and the years of your life will be many.
11I instruct you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.
12When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
when you run, you will not stumble.
13Hold on to instruction, do not let it go;
guard it well, for it is your life.
14Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
or walk in the way of evildoers.
15Avoid it, do not travel on it;
turn from it and go on your way.
16For they cannot rest until they do evil;
they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.
17They eat the bread of wickedness
and drink the wine of violence.
18The path of the righteous is like the morning sun,
shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
19But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know what makes them stumble.
20My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
21Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
22for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.
23Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
24Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
26Give careful thought to the4:26 Or Make level paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.
27Do not turn to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil.
