1여호와께서는 계속해서 욥에게 말씀하셨다.
2“네가 아직도 전능한 자와 다투겠느냐? 나 하나님을 책망하는 너는 이제 대답하라.”
3그러자 욥이 이렇게 대답하였다.
4“나같이 보잘것없는 자가 주께 무엇이라고 대답하겠습니까? 다만 손으로 내 입을 가릴 뿐입니다.
5나는 이미 너무 많은 말을 하였습니다.”
6그때 여호와께서 다시 폭풍 가운데서 욥에게 말씀하셨다.
7“너는 남자답게 일어나서 내가 묻는 말에 대답하라.
8너는 네가 의롭다는 말을 하기 위해서 내 심판을 무시하고 나를 죄인으로 단정할 셈이냐?
9네가 나 같은 팔을 가졌으며 나만큼 우렁찬 소리를 낼 수 있느냐?
10만일 그렇다면 네가 화려하고 아름답게 꾸미고 위엄과 영광의 옷을 입어라.
11너는 교만한 자들을 찾아 너의 분노를 쏟고 그들을 낮추라.
12다시 말하지만 교만한 자들을 모조리 찾아서 낮추고 악인들을 그들이 있는 곳에서 짓밟아
13모두 땅 속에 묻고 그 얼굴을 싸서 무덤에 두어라.
14그러면 40:14 원문에는 ‘네 오른손이’네 힘이 너를 구원할 수 있다고 내가 인정해 주겠다.
15“너는 하마처럼 생긴 괴물을 보아라. 내가 너를 창조했듯이 그것도 창조하였다. 그 괴물은 소처럼 풀을 먹고 살지마는
16그 허리와 배의 힘줄에는 강한 힘이 있다.
17그 꼬리는 백향목처럼 곧고 넓적다리의 힘줄은 서로 굳게 결합되어 있으며
18그 뼈는 놋쇠처럼 단단하고 다리는 쇠막대기와 같다.
19이것은 내가 창조한 것 중에서 가장 무서운 놈이다. 40:19 또는 ‘그것을 지은 자가 칼을 주었고’그것을 창조한 나도 칼을 들어야만 접근할 수 있다.
20모든 들짐승이 노는 산이 그것을 위해 먹을 것을 만들어낸다.
21그것이 연꽃 아래나 습지의 갈대밭에 엎드리면
22연이나 수양버들이 그것을 그늘에 숨겨 준다.
23그 괴물은 홍수가 밀어닥쳐도 놀라지 않으며 요단 강물이 넘쳐 그 입에까지 와 닿아도 태연하다.
24누가 감히 그것을 잡아 갈고리로 그 코를 꿸 수 있겠느냐?”
1The Lord said to Job:
2“Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?
Let him who accuses God answer him!”
3Then Job answered the Lord:
4“I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?
I put my hand over my mouth.
5I spoke once, but I have no answer—
twice, but I will say no more.”
6Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm:
7“Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
8“Would you discredit my justice?
Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
9Do you have an arm like God’s,
and can your voice thunder like his?
10Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,
and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.
11Unleash the fury of your wrath,
look at all who are proud and bring them low,
12look at all who are proud and humble them,
crush the wicked where they stand.
13Bury them all in the dust together;
shroud their faces in the grave.
14Then I myself will admit to you
that your own right hand can save you.
15“Look at Behemoth,
which I made along with you
and which feeds on grass like an ox.
16What strength it has in its loins,
what power in the muscles of its belly!
17Its tail sways like a cedar;
the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.
18Its bones are tubes of bronze,
its limbs like rods of iron.
19It ranks first among the works of God,
yet its Maker can approach it with his sword.
20The hills bring it their produce,
and all the wild animals play nearby.
21Under the lotus plants it lies,
hidden among the reeds in the marsh.
22The lotuses conceal it in their shadow;
the poplars by the stream surround it.
23A raging river does not alarm it;
it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth.
24Can anyone capture it by the eyes,
or trap it and pierce its nose?
