1“욥, 이제 너는 내 말을 들어라.
2내가 입을 여니 내 혀가 입 속에서 말을 하는구나.
3내가 아는 것을 정직하고 진실하게 말하겠다.
4하나님의 성령이 나를 만드셨고 전능하신 분의 숨결이 나에게 생명을 주셨다.
5네가 내 말에 대답할 수 있으면 준비했다가 나에게 대답하고 반박하여라.
6하나님 앞에서는 너와 내가 마찬가지이다. 우리는 모두 흙으로 창조된 자들이다.
7그러므로 너는 나를 두려워할 이유가 없다. 나는 너를 억누르지 않을 것이다.
8“나는 네가 계속 이렇게 말하는 것을 들었다.
9‘나는 깨끗하며 죄가 없고 허물도 없으며 잘못한 것이 아무것도 없다.
10그런데도 하나님은 나를 칠 구실을 찾고 나를 원수처럼 대하시며
11내 발에 쇠고랑을 채우시고 나의 모든 행동을 일일이 감시하신다.’
12“그러나 내가 너에게 말하고 싶은 것은 네가 그런 식으로 하나님께 말하는 그 자체가 잘못되었다는 것이다. 하나님은 사람보다 더 위대하신 분이시다.
13하나님이 사람의 말에 대답하지 않는다고 어째서 네가 그에게 불평하느냐?
14하나님이 여러 가지 방법으로 계속 말씀하셔도 사람이 그의 말에 귀를 기울이지 않는다.
15하나님은 사람이 밤에 깊이 잠들 때에도 꿈과 환상 가운데서 말씀하시며
16그들의 귀를 열어 그 말씀을 듣게 하시고 33:16 또는 ‘인치듯교훈하시나니’경고하여 그들을 놀라게 하신다.
17하나님이 이렇게 하시는 것은 사람을 잘못된 데서 돌이키시고 그들이 교만하지 않게 하기 위해서이다.
18하나님은 사람이 멸망하도록 내버려 두지 않으시고 그 생명을 죽음에서 구해 내신다.
19또 하나님은 사람을 깨우치기 위해서 그에게 질병과 고통을 주시는 때도 있다.
20이럴 경우 사람은 입맛을 잃어 아무리 맛있는 음식이라도 쳐다보기가 싫어지며
21그의 몸은 점점 쇠약해져서 뼈와 가죽만 남게 되고
22결국 그는 죽음 직전에 이르게 된다.
23“만일 이때 하나님의 수많은 천사 중 하나가 그 사람의 중재자로 나타나서 그에게 옳은 길을 보여 준다면
24하나님은 그를 불쌍히 여겨 33:24 암시됨.천사에게 ‘그를 살려 주어라. 그를 죽게 해서는 안 된다. 내가 그의 몸값을 찾았다’ 하고 말씀하실 것이다.
25그러면 그의 몸이 젊은 시절과 마찬가지로 다시 회복될 것이다.
26그리고 그가 하나님께 기도하면 하나님은 그의 기도를 듣고 그를 기쁘게 받아들일 것이며 그는 또 기쁨으로 하나님을 뵈올 수 있고 하나님도 그와의 33:26 또는 ‘그의를’의로운 관계를 회복시킬 것이다.
27그러면 그는 ‘내가 범죄하였으나 하나님은 나를 살려 주셨다.
28그가 나를 죽지 않게 하셨으므로 내가 다시 살아 빛을 보게 되었구나’ 하고 사람들에게 말하게 될 것이다.
29“하나님이 사람에게 이런 일을 두 번 세 번 거듭 되풀이하시는 이유는
30그 영혼을 구원하여 그를 생명의 빛 가운데서 살게 하기 위해서이다.
31욥, 너는 내가 하는 말에 조용히 귀를 기울여라. 내가 좀더 말하겠다.
32만일 네가 할 말이 있거든 하여라. 나는 너의 의로운 점을 인정해 주고 싶다.
33그러나 할 말이 없으면 조용히 내 말을 들어라. 내가 너에게 지혜를 가르치겠다.”
1‘But now, Job, listen to my words;
pay attention to everything I say.
2I am about to open my mouth;
my words are on the tip of my tongue.
3My words come from an upright heart;
my lips sincerely speak what I know.
4The Spirit of God has made me;
the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
5Answer me then, if you can;
stand up and argue your case before me.
6I am the same as you in God’s sight;
I too am a piece of clay.
7No fear of me should alarm you,
nor should my hand be heavy on you.
8‘But you have said in my hearing –
I heard the very words –
9“I am pure, I have done no wrong;
I am clean and free from sin.
10Yet God has found fault with me;
he considers me his enemy.
11He fastens my feet in shackles;
he keeps close watch on all my paths.”
12‘But I tell you, in this you are not right,
for God is greater than any mortal.
13Why do you complain to him
that he responds to no-one’s words33:13 Or that he does not answer for any of his actions?
14For God does speak – now one way, now another –
though no-one perceives it.
15In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls on people
as they slumber in their beds,
16he may speak in their ears
and terrify them with warnings,
17to turn them from wrongdoing
and keep them from pride,
18to preserve them from the pit,
their lives from perishing by the sword.33:18 Or from crossing the river
19‘Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain
with constant distress in their bones,
20so that their body finds food repulsive
and their soul loathes the choicest meal.
21Their flesh wastes away to nothing,
and their bones, once hidden, now stick out.
22They draw near to the pit,
and their life to the messengers of death.33:22 Or to the place of the dead
23Yet if there is an angel at their side,
a messenger, one out of a thousand,
sent to tell them how to be upright,
24and he is gracious to that person and says to God,
“Spare them from going down to the pit;
I have found a ransom for them –
25let their flesh be renewed like a child’s;
let them be restored as in the days of their youth” –
26then that person can pray to God and find favour with him,
they will see God’s face and shout for joy;
he will restore them to full well-being.
27And they will go to others and say,
“I have sinned, and I have perverted what is right,
but I did not get what I deserved.
28God has delivered me from going down to the pit,
and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.”
29‘God does all these things to a person –
twice, even three times –
30to turn them back from the pit,
that the light of life may shine on them.
31‘Pay attention, Job, and listen to me;
be silent, and I will speak.
32If you have anything to say, answer me;
speak up, for I want to vindicate you.
33But if not, then listen to me;
be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.’
