암몬에 대한 심판
1이것은 암몬 자손에 대한 여호와의 말씀이다. “이스라엘에게 자손이 없느냐? 그에게 상속자가 없느냐? 어째서 49:1 또는 ‘말감’밀곰이 갓을 점령하며 그 백성이 갓의 성에서 사는가?
2그러므로 나 여호와가 말한다. 내가 암몬 자손의 랍바성에 전쟁 소리가 들리게 할 날이 있을 것이다. 랍바성은 폐허의 무더기로 변하고 그 주변 부락들은 불에 탈 것이며 그때 이스라엘은 자기를 점령한 자를 점령할 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.
3“헤스본아, 통곡하라. 아이성이 멸망하였다. 랍바의 주민들아, 부르짖어라. 너희는 삼베 옷을 입고 슬피 울며 재빨리 울타리 사이에 숨어라. 너희 신 밀곰이 그 제사장들과 대신들과 함께 다 사로잡혀갈 것이다.
4너희 신실치 못한 백성들아, 어째서 너희가 비옥한 골짜기를 자랑하느냐? 너희가 너희 재물을 믿고 ‘누가 우리를 공격할 것인가?’ 하는구나.
5전능한 주 여호와가 말한다. 보라, 내가 너희 사방에 두려움을 보내겠다. 너희가 다 쫓겨서 달아날 것이며 너희 도망하는 자들을 모을 자가 없을 것이다.
6그러나 후에 내가 암몬 자손을 원상태로 회복시킬 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.”
에돔에 대한 심판
7이것은 에돔에 대한 전능하신 여호와의 말씀이다. “너희 지혜로운 자들이 다 어디 갔느냐? 데만에 남은 자 중에 지혜로운 자가 하나도 없느냐?
8드단에 사는 자들아, 너희는 멀리 달아나서 숨어라. 내가 에돔을 벌할 때에 에서의 재앙을 그에게 내릴 것이다.
9포도를 따는 자들도 가난한 자를 위해 약간씩 남겨 두며 밤의 도둑도 자기가 원하는 것만 가져간다.
10그러나 나는 에서를 완전히 벌거숭이가 되게 하여 그의 숨을 곳을 다 드러내었으니 그가 자기를 숨길 수 없게 되었다. 에돔의 모든 사람이 다 멸망하였으므로 한 사람도 살아 남은 자가 없구나.
11너희는 너희 고아들을 나에게 맡겨라. 내가 그들을 보살펴 주겠다. 그리고 너희 과부들도 나를 의지하게 하라.”
12여호와께서 다시 에돔에게 말씀하신다. “죄 없는 사람까지 이 형벌의 잔을 마셔야 하는데 네가 벌을 면하리라고 생각하느냐? 너는 반드시 이 형벌의 잔을 마실 것이다.
13나 여호와가 분명히 말하지만 보스라가 황폐하여 놀람과 저줏거리와 치욕거리가 될 것이며 그 모든 성들이 영원히 폐허가 되고 말 것이다.”
14내가 49:14 또는 ‘여호와에게서부터 오는 소식’여호와의 말씀을 들으니 여호와께서 사자를 여러 나라에 보내며 이렇게 전하라고 말씀하셨다. “너희는 연합군을 만들어 에돔을 쳐라. 자, 일어나서 싸워라!”
15에돔에 대하여 여호와께서 다시 말씀하신다. “많은 나라 가운데서 내가 너를 약하게 할 것이니 모든 사람들이 너를 멸시할 것이다.
16바위 틈에서 살며 산의 정상을 점령한 자야, 너의 명성과 네 마음의 교만이 너를 속였다. 네가 독수리처럼 네 보금자리를 높이 지어도 내가 너를 거기서 끄집어내리겠다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.
17에돔의 멸망이 너무 무시무시하여 지나가는 자마다 놀라며 그 광경을 보고 비웃을 것이다.
18소돔과 고모라와 그 이웃 성들이 멸망당했을 때와 마찬가지로 에돔에 살거나 머물 자가 하나도 없을 것이다.
19사자가 요단 숲속에서 목장으로 올라오는 것처럼 갑자기 침략자가 밀어닥칠 것이니 내가 에돔 사람들을 그 땅에서 쫓아내고 내가 택한 자를 세워 그 나라를 다스리게 하겠다. 나와 같은 자가 누구인가? 나에게 도전할 자가 누구이며 나와 맞설 목자가 누구인가?
20그러므로 나 여호와가 에돔에 대하여 계획한 것과 데만 사람들에게 행하려고 하는 일을 들어라. 49:20 또는 ‘양떼의 어린 것들을’어린 아이들까지 다 끌려갈 것이며 그 땅은 황폐해질 것이다.
21에돔이 넘어지는 소리에 땅이 진동할 것이며 그 백성들이 부르짖는 소리는 홍해까지 들릴 것이다.
22보라, 날개를 펴고 내리덮치는 독수리처럼 원수가 와서 보스라를 칠 것이다. 그 날에는 에돔 용사들의 마음이 해산하는 여인의 심정과 같을 것이다.”
다마스커스에 대한 심판
23이것은 다마스커스에 대한 여호와의 말씀이다. “하맛과 아르밧이 흉한 소문을 듣고 두려워하며 낙담하는구나. 49:23 또는 ‘바닷가에 슬픔이 있고 평안이 없도다’바다에 파도가 일듯이 그들의 마음에 근심이 일고 있으니 그들에겐 평안이 없다.
24다마스커스가 무력하여 그 주민들이 달아나려고 몸을 돌이켰으나 공포가 그들을 움켜잡고 고통과 아픔이 그들을 사로잡았으니 그들이 해산하는 여인처럼 괴로워하는구나.
25한때 명성을 떨치며 행복했던 성이 어떻게 하다가 버림을 당했는가?
26전능한 나 여호와가 말한다. 그 날에 다마스커스의 청년들이 거리에 쓰러지고 그 병사들은 전멸할 것이다.
27내가 다마스커스 성벽에 불을 놓아 벤 – 하닷의 궁전을 태워 버리겠다.”
게달과 하솔에 대한 심판
28이것은 바빌로니아의 느부갓네살왕에게 패한 게달족과 하솔 왕국에 대한 여호와의 말씀이다. “너희는 일어나 게달을 치고 동방 사람들을 멸망시켜라.
29너희는 그들의 천막과 양떼와 휘장과 그들의 모든 물건과 낙타를 빼앗고 그들을 향하여 ‘두려움이 너희 사방에 있다’ 하고 외쳐라.
30나 여호와가 말한다. 하솔 백성들아, 너희는 멀리 도망하여 깊숙한 곳에 가서 숨어라. 바빌로니아의 느부갓네살왕이 너를 칠 계획과 방안을 세워 놓았다.
31그가 하는 말을 들어 보아라. ‘자, 안심하고 평안히 살고 있는 저 백성을 치자. 그들은 성문이나 문빗장도 없이 무방비 상태로 고립되어 살고 있다.’
32“그들의 낙타와 가축이 약탈당할 것이다. 옆 머리를 잘라 낸 이 이방인들을 내가 아무 데나 흩어 버리고 사방에서 재앙을 불러들여 그들에게 밀어닥치게 하겠다.
33하솔이 여우의 소굴이 되어 영영 황폐할 것이므로 거기에 머물거나 사는 자가 아무도 없을 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.”
엘람에 대한 심판
34이것은 시드기야가 유다 왕이 된 지 얼마 되지 않은 때에 여호와께서 엘람에 대하여 나에게 하신 말씀이다.
35전능하신 여호와께서 말씀하신다. “보라, 엘람의 힘의 원천인 활을 내가 꺾어 버리겠다.
36내가 하늘 사방에서 바람을 일으켜 엘람을 곳곳에 흩어 버릴 것이니 엘람에서 쫓겨난 자들이 가지 않는 나라가 없을 것이다.
37내가 엘람 백성들로 그들의 생명을 노리는 원수들 앞에서 두려워 떨게 할 것이며 나의 분노의 재앙을 그들에게 내리고 그들을 전멸시킬 때까지 칼을 보내 그들의 뒤를 따르게 할 것이다.
38내가 엘람에 내 보좌를 베풀고 그 왕과 대신들을 없애 버리겠다.
39그러나 훗날 내가 엘람을 원상태로 회복시킬 것이다. 이것은 나 여호와의 말이다.”
A message about Ammon
1Concerning the Ammonites:
This is what the Lord says:
‘Has Israel no sons?
Has Israel no heir?
Why then has Molek49:1 Or their king; also in verse 3 taken possession of Gad?
Why do his people live in its towns?
2But the days are coming,’ declares the Lord,
‘when I will sound the battle cry
against Rabbah of the Ammonites;
it will become a mound of ruins,
and its surrounding villages will be set on fire.
Then Israel will drive out
those who drove her out,’
says the Lord.
3‘Wail, Heshbon, for Ai is destroyed!
Cry out, you inhabitants of Rabbah!
Put on sackcloth and mourn;
rush here and there inside the walls,
for Molek will go into exile,
together with his priests and officials.
4Why do you boast of your valleys,
boast of your valleys so fruitful?
Unfaithful Daughter Ammon,
you trust in your riches and say,
“Who will attack me?”
5I will bring terror on you
from all those around you,’
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
‘Every one of you will be driven away,
and no-one will gather the fugitives.
6‘Yet afterwards, I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites,’
declares the Lord.
A message about Edom
7Concerning Edom:
This is what the Lord Almighty says:
‘Is there no longer wisdom in Teman?
Has counsel perished from the prudent?
Has their wisdom decayed?
8Turn and flee, hide in deep caves,
you who live in Dedan,
for I will bring disaster on Esau
at the time when I punish him.
9If grape pickers came to you,
would they not leave a few grapes?
If thieves came during the night,
would they not steal only as much as they wanted?
10But I will strip Esau bare;
I will uncover his hiding-places,
so that he cannot conceal himself.
His armed men are destroyed,
also his allies and neighbours,
so there is no-one to say,
11“Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive.
Your widows too can depend on me.” ’
12This is what the Lord says: ‘If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, why should you go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, but must drink it. 13I swear by myself,’ declares the Lord, ‘that Bozrah will become a ruin and a curse,49:13 That is, its name will be used in cursing (see 29:22); or, others will see that it is cursed. an object of horror and reproach; and all its towns will be in ruins for ever.’
14I have heard a message from the Lord;
an envoy was sent to the nations to say,
‘Assemble yourselves to attack it!
Rise up for battle!’
15‘Now I will make you small among the nations,
despised by mankind.
16The terror you inspire
and the pride of your heart have deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks,
who occupy the heights of the hill.
Though you build your nest as high as the eagle’s,
from there I will bring you down,’
declares the Lord.
17‘Edom will become an object of horror;
all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff
because of all its wounds.
18As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown,
along with their neighbouring towns,’ says the Lord,
‘so no-one will live there;
no people will dwell in it.
19‘Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets
to a rich pasture-land,
I will chase Edom from its land in an instant.
Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?
Who is like me and who can challenge me?
And what shepherd can stand against me?’
20Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Edom,
what he has purposed against those who live in Teman:
the young of the flock will be dragged away;
their pasture will be appalled at their fate.
21At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble;
their cry will resound to the Red Sea.49:21 Or the Sea of Reeds
22Look! An eagle will soar and swoop down,
spreading its wings over Bozrah.
In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors
will be like the heart of a woman in labour.
A message about Damascus
23Concerning Damascus:
‘Hamath and Arpad are dismayed,
for they have heard bad news.
They are disheartened,
troubled like49:23 Hebrew on or by the restless sea.
24Damascus has become feeble,
she has turned to flee
and panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her,
pain like that of a woman in labour.
25Why has the city of renown not been abandoned,
the town in which I delight?
26Surely, her young men will fall in the streets;
all her soldiers will be silenced in that day,’
declares the Lord Almighty.
27‘I will set fire to the walls of Damascus;
it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.’
A message about Kedar and Hazor
28Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked:
This is what the Lord says:
‘Arise, and attack Kedar
and destroy the people of the East.
29Their tents and their flocks will be taken;
their shelters will be carried off
with all their goods and camels.
People will shout to them,
“Terror on every side!”
30‘Flee quickly away!
Stay in deep caves, you who live in Hazor,’
declares the Lord.
‘Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has plotted against you;
he has devised a plan against you.
31‘Arise and attack a nation at ease,
which lives in confidence,’
declares the Lord,
‘a nation that has neither gates nor bars;
its people live far from danger.
32Their camels will become plunder,
and their large herds will be spoils of war.
I will scatter to the winds those who are in distant places49:32 Or who clip the hair by their foreheads
and will bring disaster on them from every side,’
declares the Lord.
33‘Hazor will become a haunt of jackals,
a desolate place for ever.
No-one will live there;
no people will dwell in it.’
A message about Elam
34This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah:
35This is what the Lord Almighty says:
‘See, I will break the bow of Elam,
the mainstay of their might.
36I will bring against Elam the four winds
from the four quarters of heaven;
I will scatter them to the four winds,
and there will not be a nation
where Elam’s exiles do not go.
37I will shatter Elam before their foes,
before those who want to kill them;
I will bring disaster on them,
even my fierce anger,’
declares the Lord.
‘I will pursue them with the sword
until I have made an end of them.
38I will set my throne in Elam
and destroy her king and officials,’
declares the Lord.
39‘Yet I will restore the fortunes of Elam
in days to come,’
declares the Lord.
