유다의 8대 왕 요아스
1이스라엘의 예후왕 7년에 요아스가 유다 왕이 되어 예루살렘에서 40년 을 통치하였다. 그리고 그의 어머니는 브엘세바 사람 시비아였다.
2그는 제사장 여호야다의 교훈을 받는 동안 여호와께서 보시기에 옳은 일을 하였으나
3산당을 헐지 않았으므로 백성들은 계속 거기서 제사를 지내며 분향하였다.
4어느 날 요아스왕은 제사장들을 모아 놓고 이렇게 말하였다. “여러분은 여호와의 성전에 바치는 예물, 곧 정규적으로 거둬들이는 인두세와 서약으로 바치는 예물과 백성들이 자진해서 바치는 모든 돈을 모아
5성전을 수리하는 데 사용하도록 하시오.”
6그러나 요아스가 나라를 다스린 지 23년이 될 때까지 제사장들은 성전을 수리하지 않았다.
7그래서 그는 여호야다와 다른 제사장들을 불러 물었다. “어째서 당신들은 성전을 수리하지 않았소? 이제부터 당신들이 거둬들인 돈을 보관하지 말고 다른 사람에게 넘겨 주어 성전 수리를 하게 하시오.”
8그래서 제사장들은 백성들에게 돈을 직접 받지 않고 자기들이 성전을 직접 수리하지 않기로 합의하였다.
9그때 제사장 여호야다는 상자 하나를 가져다가 뚜껑에 구멍을 뚫어 성전 정면의 우측 단 곁에 두었다. 그래서 성전 문을 지키는 제사장들은 백성들이 성전에 가져오는 모든 돈을 받아 그 헌금함 속에 넣었다.
10그리고 헌금함에 돈이 많이 모이면 궁중 서기관과 대제사장이 올라와서 그 돈을 계산하여
11성전 수리 담당자들에게 넘겨 주었다. 그러면 그들은 그 돈으로 목수와 건축자와
12채석공의 임금을 주고 성전을 수리하는 데 필요한 목재와 돌을 사고 그 밖의 필요한 곳에 사용하였다.
13그러나 여호와의 성전에 바친 돈은 은대접이나 불집게나 주발이나 나팔이나 그 밖의 금은 그릇을 만드는 데 쓰지 않고
14오직 성전을 수리하는 데만 사용하였다.
15그리고 성전 수리 담당자들이 아주 정직하게 일했기 때문에 회계 보고를 받을 필요가 없었다.
16그러나 죄와 잘못을 씻는 속건제와 속죄제의 예물은 그 헌금함에 넣지 않고 제사장들에게 주어 쓰게 하였다.
17그때 시리아의 하사엘왕이 가드를 공격하여 점령한 다음 예루살렘을 치려고 올라오자
18요아스는 그의 선왕 여호사밧과 여호람과 아하시야가 여호와께 바친 모든 예물과 그리고 자기가 바친 예물까지 포함하여 성전과 왕궁에 있는 모든 금을 거두어 하사엘왕에게 선물로 보냈다. 그래서 하사엘은 자기 군대를 이끌고 예루살렘에서 물러갔다.
19그 밖에 요아스가 행한 모든 일은 유다 왕들의 역사책에 기록되어 있다.
20-21그러나 요아스의 두 신하, 시므앗의 아 들 요사갈과 소멜의 아들 여호사밧이 반란을 일으켜 실라로 내려가는 길가의 밀로궁에서 왕을 살해하였다. 그래서 요아스는 다윗성에 있는 그의 조상들의 묘에 장사되었고 그의 아들 아마샤가 왕위를 계승하였다.
1In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba. 2And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
4¶ And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the LORD,12.4 dedicated things: or, holy things: Heb. holinesses12.4 that every…: Heb. of the souls of his estimation12.4 cometh…: Heb. ascendeth upon the heart of a man 5Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found. 6But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.12.6 three…: Heb. twentieth year and third year 7Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house. 8And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house. 9But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.12.9 door: Heb. threshold 10And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.12.10 scribe: or, secretary12.10 put…: Heb. bound up 11And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,12.11 laid…: Heb. brought it forth 12And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.12.12 was…: Heb. went forth 13Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD: 14But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD. 15Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully. 16The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests’.
17¶ Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. 18And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.12.18 went…: Heb. went up
19¶ And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.12.20 the house…: or, Bethmillo 21For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
