그리스도 안에서의 연합
1그러므로 주님을 위해 갇힌 나 바울이 권합니다. 여러분은 하나님의 부르심 을 받은 성도답게
2언제나 겸손하고 부드러우며 인내와 사랑으로 서로 너그럽게 대하고
3성령으로 연합하여 사이 좋게 지내도록 노력하십시오.
4몸도 하나이며 성령님도 한 분이십니다. 이와 같이 여러분도 한 희망 가운데서 부르심을 받았습니다.
5그리고 주님도 믿음도 4:5 또는 ‘침례’세례도 하나이며
6우리 모두의 아버지이신 하나님도 한 분이십니다. 그분은 모든 것 위에 계시고 모든 것을 통해 일하시며 모든 것 안에 계십니다.
7그러나 우리는 모두 그리스도께서 나눠 주신 분량에 따라 은혜의 선물을 받았습니다.
8그래서 성경에는 4:8 시68:18“그가 높은 곳으로 오르실 때 사로잡은 자들을 이끌고 가시며 사람들에게 선물을 주셨다” 라고 되어 있습니다.
9그가 올라가셨다고 하였으니 4:9 또는 ‘땅의 아랫 부분’땅으로 내려오신 것이 아니고 무엇이겠습니까?
10내려오신 그분은 온 우주를 가득 채우시기 위해 다시 4:10 원문에는 ‘모든 하늘 위’하늘로 올라가셨습니다.
11바로 그분이 사람들에게 각각 다른 직분을 주셔서 어떤 사람은 사도가 되게 하시고 어떤 사람은 예언자, 어떤 사람은 전도자, 어떤 사람은 목사, 또 어떤 사람은 교사가 되게 하셨습니다.
12이렇게 여러 가지 직분을 주신 것은 성도들을 온전하게 하여 봉사의 일을 하게 하고 그리스도의 몸 된 교회를 자라게 하기 위한 것입니다.
13그렇게 되면 우리가 다 하나님의 아들을 믿고 아는 일에 하나가 되고 성숙한 사람이 되어 그리스도의 완전하신 충만에까지 이르게 될 것입니다.
14이제 우리는 사람의 속임수나 간사한 유혹에 빠져 온갖 교훈의 파도에 이리저리 밀려 다닐 어린 아이가 아닙니다.
15오히려 우리는 사랑으로 진리를 말하며 모든 일에 머리 되신 그리스도를 닮아가야 합니다.
16그리스도의 지도를 통하여 온 몸이 완전하게 서로 조화되고 각 지체가 그 기능대로 다른 지체를 도와서 온 몸이 건강하게 자라고 사랑으로 그 몸을 세우게 되는 것입니다.
새로운 삶
17그러므로 여러분, 내가 주님 안에서 여러분에게 강력히 말합니다. 이제부터 여러분은 이방인들처럼 헛된 생각으로 무가치한 생활을 하지 마십시오.
18그들은 깨닫는 마음이 어둡고 무지와 고집 때문에 하나님이 주시는 생명을 얻지 못하고 있습니다.
19그들은 감각이 무뎌져서 부끄러운 줄도 모르고 방탕한 생활을 하며 한없는 욕심으로 온갖 더러운 짓을 하고 있습니다.
20그러나 여러분은 그리스도를 그렇게 배우지 않았습니다.
21여러분이 정말 예수님에 대해서 듣고 그분 안에 있는 진리대로 가르침을 받았다면
22옛날의 생활 방식, 곧 거짓된 욕망으로 부패해 가는 옛 사람을 벗어 버리고
23마음과 정신이 새롭게 되어
24하나님의 모습대로 의와 진리의 거룩함으로 창조된 새사람이 되십시오.
25그러므로 여러분은 거짓을 버리고 각자 자기 이웃에게 진실을 말하십시오. 우리는 모두 한 몸의 지체들입니다.
26화가 나더라도 죄를 짓지 말고 해가 지기 전에 곧 화를 푸십시오.
27그렇지 않으면 마귀에게 기회를 주게 됩니다.
28도둑질하는 사람은 이제부터 도둑질하지 말고 제 손으로 열심히 일하여 선한 일을 하십시오. 그러면 가난한 사람들을 도울 수 있게 될 것입니다.
29더러운 말은 입 밖에도 내지 말고 기회 있는 대로 남에게 도움이 되는 유익한 말을 하십시오.
30하나님의 성령을 근심하게 하지 마십시오. 4:30 또는 ‘그 안에서 너희가 구속의 날까지 인치심을 받았느니라’성령님은 우리의 구원을 보증해 주시는 분이십니다.
31여러분은 모든 악독과 격정과 분노와 말다툼과 비방과 모든 악의를 버리고
32서로 친절하게 대하고 불쌍히 여기며 하나님이 그리스도 안에서 여러분을 용서하신 것같이 서로 용서하십시오.
Growing Up Together in the Body of Christ
1I am a prisoner because of the Lord. So I am asking you to live a life worthy of what God chose you for. 2Don’t be proud at all. Be completely gentle. Be patient. Put up with one another in love. 3The Holy Spirit makes you one in every way. So try your best to remain as one. Let peace keep you together. 4There is one body and one Spirit. You were appointed to one hope when you were chosen. 5There is one Lord, one faith and one baptism. 6There is one God and Father of all. He is over everything. He is through everything. He is in everything.
7But each one of us has received a gift of grace. These gifts are given to us by Christ. 8That is why Scripture says,
“When he went up to his place on high,
he took many prisoners.
He gave gifts to his people.” (Psalm 68:18)
9What does “he went up” mean? It can only mean that he also came down to the lower, earthly places. 10The one who came down is the same one who went up. He went up higher than all the heavens. He did it in order to fill all creation. 11So Christ himself gave the gift of the apostles to the church. He gave the prophets and those who preach the good news. And he also gave the pastors and teachers as a gift to the church. 12He gave all these people so that they might prepare God’s people to serve. Then the body of Christ will be built up. 13That will continue until we all become one in the faith. We will also become one in the knowledge of God’s Son. Then we will be grown up in the faith. We will receive everything that Christ has for us.
14We will no longer be babies in the faith. We won’t be like ships tossed around by the waves. We won’t be blown here and there by every new teaching. We won’t be blown around by cleverness and tricks. Certain people use them to hide their evil plans. 15Instead, we will speak the truth in love. So we will grow up in every way to become the body of Christ. Christ is the head of the body. 16He makes the whole body grow and build itself up in love. Under the control of Christ, each part of the body does its work. It supports the other parts. In that way, the body is joined and held together.
Teachings for Living as Christians
17Here is what I’m telling you. I am speaking for the Lord as I warn you. You must no longer live as the Gentiles do. Their thoughts don’t have any purpose. 18They can’t understand the truth. They are separated from the life of God. That’s because they don’t know him. And they don’t know him because their hearts are stubborn. 19They have lost all feeling for what is right. So they have given themselves over to all kinds of evil pleasures. They take part in every kind of unclean act. And they are full of greed.
20But that is not the way of life in Christ that you learned about. 21You heard about Christ and were taught about life in him. What you learned was the truth about Jesus. 22You were taught not to live the way you used to. You must get rid of your old way of life. That’s because it has been made impure by the desire for things that lead you astray. 23You were taught to be made new in your thinking. 24You were taught to start living a new life. It is created to be truly good and holy, just as God is.
25So each of you must get rid of your lying. Speak the truth to your neighbor. We are all parts of one body. 26Scripture says, “When you are angry, do not sin.” (Psalm 4:4) Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. 27Don’t give the devil a chance. 28Anyone who has been stealing must never steal again. Instead, they must work. They must do something useful with their own hands. Then they will have something to give to people in need.
29Don’t let any evil talk come out of your mouths. Say only what will help to build others up and meet their needs. Then what you say will help those who listen. 30Do not make God’s Holy Spirit mourn. The Holy Spirit is the proof that you belong to God. And the Spirit is the proof that God will set you completely free. 31Get rid of all hard feelings, anger and rage. Stop all fighting and lying. Don’t have anything to do with any kind of hatred. 32Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive one another, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done.
